I would like to go to the local track before winter after i get my superchips and some other mods done.
I have never gone to the track. So those of you that have could you please give me a run down on what/how to do it. Everything you know, that i should know.
Auto stick or auto?
What is brake stalling?
(i am not looking for reccords or anything amazing, i just wanna see what i can do)
Remove weight? Spare tire? sub box? etc?

For your first time I would just get used to running a the track. If your real comfortable with the auto stick then use it. Get used to launching and the tree.

I am moderatly comfortable with the auto stick. I enjoy driving it like that around town and i have had a few instances where i have really pushed it and gotten it up to max rps before each shift. (not quite red line but the 4500 range.
launching and the tree?

Launching = taking off when the tree turns green

So is this why you Brake stall? So you put the brake on and rev the engine so instead of moving your foot off the brake to the gas its already on the gas and it starts to move when the foot is off the brake?

NEVER wait for the light to turn green. If you do you're late as hell! When the 3rd YELLOW lights up, say the word YELLOW to yourself in a nice calm voice, then HIT IT! You'll nail a pretty good light everytime. If you go on GREEN, you'll have pretty nasty Reaction Times and get SMOKED off the line.
Do y'alls AUTOSTICKS shift for you if you forget to shift it? The SRT8's do. That yields our best times. Here's what all the SRT8 guys do.
TC off
Hold brake and gas and hold it at 1000-1200 rpms. Only start doing this when both of you are staged. If you hold it for more than 5 seconds, the PCM/TCM will yank timing out amking you slower. More traction control crap. Even though it's off, it's still on. Trust me it sucks!
Wait for the 3rd yellow to light and do what I said.
I don't think you'll have to do a burnout. Go around the waterbox for the first few passes. If you start spinning, do a few second burnout. Burning out too long will make your tires too slick from being too hot. Have fun and enjoy yourself. Remember, AC off at all times. No one likes someone's AC system dripping water on the track!!
I'm sure Joe will chime in soon, he fancies the 1320..

Ok Kyle here is how it goes.
Get to the track right when the gates open because usually that will give you enough time to get the Jeep inspected and then cooled down in the lot.
(When they call your class to the pits):
Drive up to the pits very easy and slowly to not raise the temps that much. When you arrive, pop the hood and let the Jeep cool down.
When your class is called to race:
1.) ESP Off
2.) Tow Haul on
3.) Since you are new to the racing scene do this. Put the Jeep in 3rd Gear and do the last shift into 4th when you have to.
How to stage properly:
At the top of the tree there are 2 rows of 2 yellow lights like this: ::[/COLOR]
When you see all 4 light up, you are staged correctly.
Stare at your side of the tree and DONT lose focus off of it.
Powerbrake to like 1200-1500 RPM's
Then you will see the first big yellow light light up, then the second and then the third. As soon as you see the 3rd yellow light, you GO!
Thats what I do and these are my R/T's:

So i assume there is no chance in hell that when you go at the 3rd light you will be jumping the gun?
What do you mean put it in 3rd and shift in to 4th when i need to? Start with the selector saying 3rd?
Ive never done a burn out in my wk?
Power brake at 2nd light?

Sometimes you do jump the gun but most times you dont.
Start it off in 3rd and then do the last shift into 4th when you need it.
Can't do a burnout with 4WD.
I powerbrake as soon as I am staged correctly.

So what was this talk about doing a burn out or the water?
Power braking early wont screw up the computer like harry Ballz said?

Just go around the waterbox. Do not go in.
And I have heard that before about the timing. I will be going to the track on a Friday night to do a test and tune and I will report back on comparisons. :)

I know it would be a learning experience and i am not looking to beat anyone even after i do the chip, I am mostly worried about timing the lights and the brake stalling and such and not hesitating to go at the last yellow light.

Thanks..... this ain't my first rodeo!
To the OP..... don't worry about your start. You're putting too much emphasis on your launch. Just play with it and learn it. You're out there having fun and do just that. You've got some pretty good advice from everyone here. Joe certainly is fantastic at cutting a light, even though he does run a 14.999!! J/K Crookie!! Couldn't resist.:slapfight: Who cares what you're RT's will be. Be more concerned about your ET's than RT's. Your RT's will have nothing to do with your ET's. Your ET's don't start until you actually leave the line. Hell, my boys with their Turbo SRT8's don't leave the line for 1-2 seconds b/c they're building boost. Then they run people down which is pretty funny!! Every rig is different. Keep running until you find out what works best for your truck. I leave off the line at 1400rpms where a few of my buddies leave at idle. Every truck is different. Just HAVE FUN!!
