My 2006 WK is starting to have an overheating problem and I am not entirley sure why?

My jeep will heat up to the highst point on the guage and stay there unless I rev the motor
( now normally I would atribute this to a stuck thermostat )
But...it will rise back up if I sit somewhere to long...( and if this was a stuck thermostat it shouldnt reseal itsself when the motor is hot right?)

Very confused thanks for all your help

What does the overflow tank show full/empty?

Pop the top (cold engine) on the radiator and see if it has fluid. Start the engine and let it run up to temp and see if it burps (air pocket) also turn on the heat full blast inside the Jeep to let it run through the heater core. With a glove on grab the top radiator hose and slowly squeeze it again and again to release the air pockets.

Might also be the water pump or your ECT (engine coolant temp sensor).
