I am going to the Jeep dealer to order my 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland only option I'm getting is the HEMI 5.7 I need to agree to the price and give a deposit to get the VON (vehicle order number) Does anyone have any advice I how much have people paid under the MSRP to date??? Not sure what negotiating power I have. I don't want to pay more than I should. Please any information is valuable any model that anyone has ordered. Have people paid MSRP or what discount off MSRP. The economy is still not great I figured there should be some room to wiggle.

Advice please??? I figured I might as well before I have to put money into my 2005 Laredo X package with 46 K miles original brakes and tires, before I replace thoose I figured I'd buy new.

Any and all advice would be appreciated. Milous any advice??? Your info is golden.

How did you pull that off, an employee program usually is what gets you 1% under.. and the free Nav because they get reimbursed for the 1% below invoice.. lol ;)

Yea my company has the employee program and the nav was because I refused to pay for it and the dealer wanted me to have it for some reason. Im still unsure on why that was.

1% under invoice- wife's employer has a purchase agreement. For a V-6 Overland with the towing package, that came to a shade under $40K.

Check with your employer or with a membership club (like Costco or Sam's Club) if you are a member- you might get that kind of deal without having to negotiate at all.

You need to check your state's laws, but in most locations the deposit is refundable. Second, when placing the order, again in most states, an order is not a legally binding contract. The dealer is financing the build with a promise by you to purchase it when it arrives. You can however, again check your state's laws, walk away from the deal at any time.

I'm in NJ and this is the case Once the vehicle comes in, then you negotiate the price. Of couse they'll have you buy the balls since you've waited forever for it!!!

Finally, most dealers will let you see the ordering system to make sure you have all the specs you want. On the system you will clearly see what invoice is versus MSRP for each option. A good dealer won't hide that information from you, and besides, it's all over the internet anyway.

So I know I didn't answer your question, but the moral of the post here is be informed before you walk in the door and know how to get out of the deal before you get suckered into one.

If you've never bought a car before, check out http://www.beatthecarsalesman.com for tips and take a look at http://www.truecar.com for what people are paying in your area. Trucar has the most up to date pricing based on what I've seen from my build sheet.

In my area, most are paying about 500 under MSRP. 1700 under is considered a great deal. It's a new car and it's hot in demand, so leveraging power is not in your favor.

Good luck.

^^^^Costco does this as mentioned... You have to inquire via chttp://www.costcoauto.com/enterzipcode.aspx?gotourl=%2fDefault.aspx and they will tell you if any dealers in the area participate in the area.. Sams too is similar.

Even if you get 1% below invoice, I would have a look at Carwoo first.

(copied it from their webside)

Carwoo (http://www.carwoo.com) is a negotiating service that just launched nationwide. A huge benefit they offer is keeping your personal information secret from the dealership until you are ready to finalize your new car purchase. With the $49 "plus" plan that I would recommend Carwoo sets up a reverse auction for you so you will always get the best price. The $19 basic plan lets you negotiate without revealing your contact information.

I would go and see whats possible. Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK!

I just started calling dealers and asking them straight up how close to invoice they would go on an order. I settled on one who offered 100 below invoice without hesitation. If you know exactly what you want, I figure its only a few minutes work for the salesman and they may be easy to get low.

I hope you get a good deal, but the way dealers add things on at the last minute you could get a salesman to say $100 below invoice at one place and $500 above at another and end up paying the same amount in the end. It seems to me that if you have a dealer quote the total amount you will pay with all taxes and other charges added to get a price that you could compare to another dealer who did the same thing would be best. Apples to Apples you know.

1%-2% over invoice is a fair price. At those percentages the dealer is making $400-$800 over invoice which on a product that lists for 45k that seems very reasonable.

Doesn't the Overland come with Navigation standard?

Boomer, at 1% over invoice, a dealer is making the $410 (the 1%) PLUS the $1200 hold back, or $1600, which amounts to actually 4%. I was able to negotiate $1000 under invoice per vehicle, but I had a bit more negotiating power since I was buying two.

Doesn't the Overland come with Navigation standard?

Yes. There are two nav systems, the 430N and the 730N (differences are handled in greater detail elsewhere). The 730N was originally standard in the Overland.

Early in July, the 430N became the standard unit with the 730N being a few hundred bucks more. The 730N (currently model code RER) will be replaced with a newer unit (model code RHR) in a couple months or so. Word has it that at that point the 730N RHR will again be the standard Overland nav system.
