Nice lookin Jeep Rob! I assume your going to keep it forever?

I just did the pumpkins and t-case. I had the shop do a third power flush on the trans but also dropped the pan to clean the screen. So I am thinking it could go another 60K without any issues.

The motor doesnt burn oil or nothing.

Wow, she looks good bro!
Is it the 4.0L HO Rob?

4.0L Mario. I beat the snot out of her every dang day too!

Awesome XJ Rob! How's she running?

robpp
05-31-2009, 06:20 PM
runs like a top. i current have a 21 each way commute. I take a toll road where SL is 75. I can do 80 all day in that thing. Air blows ice cold. I really havent even done that much to it except I have always been on top of maintenance. Maybe even a little more than called for. but for me it has paid off.

I do most of the maintenacne myself so the savings allows more sevice, my bro call it 'over maintaing' like he'll ask 'have you done any over-maintaing this weekend! Thanks God he doesnt know about my WK!

it also has the Selec-trac xfer case. thats full time all wheel drive, so like if it rains good or marginally freezing, i can pop it in full-time and hit the hioghway at 80.

at this point matt, yes. About 2-3 months ago I noticed a small leak, looks like rear main seal. otherwise, no issues. so long as she doesnt make too much of a mess on ther garage floor, she can stay!

or is something major happens, in my mind that would only be the motor or the trans...

Matt

Gotcha. Kudos for keeping her in tip top shape... I know it has paid off.

i saw that Ron. its crazy........

There was one I found for $11k, I think it was a 97 Limited. HUGE lift, 30-something inch tires, big boomin stereo, and kind of a Dakar/Safari look to the exterior. I will see if I can find pics and post them in a new "Thai Jeep XJ" thread I want to create.

how can i miss this thread- i love the XJ!

theres differences between yours and mine but a XJ is just that - - still a XJ.

hell i even had a cherry popper on it when i was on a learners permit (15yrs old)- lol then went to a borla. it was loud and in charge upon any gas you gave it. right now mine has a 6 yr old OEM exhaust on it- due to not passing inspections years ago.

i remember when the clear parking lamps came into play for our vehicles several years ago- i thought i hit gold!! haha i love my XJ- i still gaze at her when ever i go upstate. shes awaiting a snow plow-- ill have one put on for my pops so he can plow the snow in the jeep instead of the 79' ramcharger.

side rant- i once over heated the engine (talking smoking/steam flying out from underneath my hood) like 4 miles away from home. i did the stupid and drove it home since it was only 3-4 miles away going like 5 mph.(didnt want to pay for a tow- i know dumbass move) i made it home and was soo scared i phucked it up- i busted out the hose and started spraying the living shiot under the hood into the engine bay. when everything cooled down i found the radiator hose was eaten away- quick stop at autozone and it hasnt had a issue since.

one major problem i had though was the part time 4 wheel drive was locked into part time with my front wheel somehow- other than that shes a 1988 champ. still runs great.

disclaimer: man dont the XJ's take the whomp'age and keeps ticking! i always whomped the pedal in that thing- esp with the borla on it- i must say there was a slight second delay in my xj when i would whomp the pedal. as in id floor it and a split second it would kick in and launch/dart off(i use to call that the shuttle effect- hahah) when i use to take it to the city the thruway was no problem at 75..80 started to to get serious though lol

cheers rob!

daym rob, thats a good price and def an upgrade from our XJ

front speakers done. consider this mod finito!

did they ever make those aftermarket extended kicker panels for the XJ in your year model? i always wanted those front door speaker set up as well as the lil sub that fits into the tiny arc in the rear cargo panel..

i bought them used many years ago. they are JEPP wheels from the 5.9 98 and Jeep also put them on the FREEDOM Edition XJs for a few years. they are 16 inch original tire size is 225/70R16.

yup, that looks nice on the XJ. i had my ZJ wheels on my XJ for quite a while for a while because i like the concave with the ZJ Grandcherokee wheels (not the convex wheels though- you know what im saying ;) ) what i really liked about the ZJ wheels on the XJ was the extra half inch of the wheel (my XJ was 7.5 width and the ZJ was 8inch but with my ice and snow tires it was a nice bold look.

hey rob, i forgot to mention one major problem i had with my XJ that was a notorious problem with most the inline 6's from then... i had to replace the gasket on the manifold. ( i did it with my friend phill in my driveway ) it really helped that he was on his way to being a great mechanic in todays world.... that was about 15 years ago, hahah

let the XJ live on bro:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Robp i had a '99 black XJ also... i loved that thing!! It looked similar to yours but where you have your blinker clear corners, i blacked mine out. I also blacked out my rears except for the reverse light... looks good, you should do it!!

I also had to change the manifold on my XJ...

dont mean to bogart your thread with pics but this was my old XJ, i loved it :D

bought a heater for the garage so the modding and maintenance can continue.

I still have some stuff from last time but I will add some front brake things:

New rotors Raybestos Premium
New Hawk HPS pads
Rebuilt calipers
New brake lines

I also have some new ignition things and suspension things. UGH

I bought a MrHeater 40-60,000 BTU propane heater. I found a 40 lb tank for 35 on CL.

new raybestos pro rotors
hawk HPS pads
Raybestos Reman Calipers
Raybstos Brake Lines

Front sway bushings and end links

thats all for today. in the morning I will try to gravity bleed it enough to get me to my bud Jim at the repair place. they will flush and bleed the brakes. I asked him to take a peek at the drums too.

rear sway bushings and ignition parts still waiting for install........

man thats just break in mileage ive got 310,000 miles on my 98 xj and noone would ever guess it from either sound of the engine or the looks aside from the floormat and carpet being worn down to metal under the drivers heel
need an evap coil and heatercore but since i got my srt8 its mainly just to throw bags of lawn stuff in now
