Does that 3.5 in lift kit cause premature ingaging of the ELS system. I have been looking to lift my jeep to but cant come up with a good reason to spend 2300 dollars on the 4in lift. How hard is it to install the 3.5 in lift, can i do it in my garage or would I have to take a shop. Also it says on Rock crawler Website that 2 in longer supension in the rear is recomended, any suggestions?

I haven't had any ESP issues with my RK kit, It's recommended that you use a shock with 2" more travel, But it's not required, I ran my factory shocks with it last winter with no problem.
The kit is pretty straight forward, You could do it yourself if you're somewhat mechanically inclined, But a full shop should be able to install it in about an hour. Hope that helps

You are now speaking with Support2 of Support.
Support2: What
can I help you with?
shane: i was wondering if there is way to get more information on the 4.5 in lift kit for the jeep grand cherokee WK
shane: like a parts list, and or the installition guide
shane: there is not anything entered in the product description section
Support2: Well there is going to be more info in the VERY near future. We have now worked out a kit using our parts as well as superlift parts to make the ultimate kit!
Support2: It will basically be the superlift kit on "steroids"
.....
shane: any idea of the price that kit will be?
Support2: You could look at the superlift kit info on their website, keeping in mind that when you buy it from us you will be getting "superlift" basics plus our Heavy-Duty components (control arms, trac-bars,etc.) Let me check on $
Support2: Surprisingly the same price as it's listed on our website, $ 1,450.00 plus shipping. It so many parts, it would have to be shipped on a pallet to a business. Shipping on a pallet shipping is usually around $ 150 to $ 225
shane: okay and when do they plan on having this new kit avaible?
Support2: and only Alabama residents have to pay tax.... if you don't live in Alabama, no taxes...... it will be ready in 1 to 2.5 weeks..... seeing one of the WK's lifted in person is awesome....pictures dont do it justice...
shane: thank you for your time, very hepful
Support2: 33's look great on them!!! Glad I could be of service.

Don't get too worked up until you actually see the lift on your doorstep.
Rusty has a reputation for optimistic ship dates. Plus there are internal problems (big lay-off that will affect how much product gets built) at Superlift which may make this arrangement rather difficult.
I'm not quite sure why Rusty thinks the trackbar and control arms need beefing up - the structure of those components seem fine to me, but I think the bushings themselves could use some attention.
AcidCold
10-14-2009, 01:25 PM
The bushings on the front lower control arms really need attention and fast! which someone had aftermarket bushings to help this situation.

Welcome to JG!! try the other thread with lifted aftermarket parts and see what price fits your budget.
I would recomend the OME lift for on and off road comfort.

WSP Jeep
10-22-2009, 02:40 PM
Please do yourself a favor and avoid Rusty's lift and shocks. It will save you headaches later. Go with another reputable lift and call the Germans for shocks (Bilsteins).
Or if you have the $7-800 bucks to spend go with OME and be done with it.

So as I type I have managed to get my local Jeep specialist (non dealer!) to get the distribution rights and importation into UK (which means rest of Europe too!) for the 4xGuard products! And right now my WK is getting belly, HC Front, HC Rear, HC Side rails, Bilstein Shocks all round, a 2" Skyjacker lift kit and 265x70x17 Cooper STTs fitted! Just in time for the Jeep Club UK offroad event at the Ministry of Defence restricted offroad test ground on Saturday! Pics to come of 35 Jeeps going hard!

They all look great, I am really liking the red strips on the Wrangler too. Whats under the hood in the XK?
FYI, The wranglers and the Unlimited to be exact, i know for a fact (as i did it) will clear a 32x11.50 stock height on those stock 15x8 ravine wheels. I wish i had pics of my old one but i had 32x11.50 BFG at's on the stock setup for a year before lifting it.
LTrainGC
11-08-2009, 03:12 PM
The XK is a 2008 limited 2WD with the gen II 4.7
The LJ's tires are 30x10.5 - the red stripe is reflective tape like you'd find on a fire truck ( he is a retired firefighter).
NHWK05
11-08-2009, 03:14 PM

11-10-2009, 10:47 AM

Ok, so I have installed my 2" Daystar lift and put on 265/70/17 Nitto Terragrappler, however I am getting a goo amount of rubbing on the interior wheel well. I thought I would be able to cut out the plastic, but it runs out its rubbing on the metal. I dont want to start cutting or hammering it in because i dont want to lose strength. Is th only way to cure this through wheel spacers? If so, what size? WHere to get them? I have included pics for you all as well hahaha. I had to cut down the bolts on the upper ball joint and then tac welded them, I also had to tac weld the upp bolts to the new plate daystar included for the strut mounts. The threads did not hold haha. Thanks

He is someone that posted on another forum about 3 years ago. This is what he said about his setup
"it wasn't a typo, i actually got 295's. i wanted to get 285's but they where on backorder, and i just couldn't wait. had to trim a little of the plastic in the front wheel well, and fold over the seam. i haven't had any rubbing issues, but i am running a V6 and those wheels and tires are HEAVY! i probably won't be able to do too much off road because they are so big on only a 3" lift, but i didn't plan on getting crazy since it is only the V6. about the backspacing, i can't remember for sure, but i think the wheels are 17x8 with 4.25 bs, and i have no problem turning either"
Huge tires for the v6 thats for sure!

Here's a picture of my 05 Laredo. It's got a 2" Daystar lift, 255/70R17 Firestone Destination A/Ts, Yakima roof rack, and I tinted the reverse portion of the tail lights a little bit. I got bored one day and I thought it would look cool....It came out pretty good I guess...I'm satisfied.

hey guys, new to posting but got lots of info from this great site! i am about to buy 05 wk with 5.7lt and want to put ome 2" lift (med duty) my question is what is the largest/best tire to run on stock rim without having to cut anything or get rubbing. i wll use spacers if that will change things.

My jeep has a 2" lift on it ^^. I've got 255/70R17 on mine and I just had to trim "the bolt" a little bit. But if you got spacers you would'nt have to worry about it. I have zero rubbing with my tires!

I don't know if the timing will work out, but my brother wants to go to Moab in the fall when his son/my nephew gets back from Afghanistan. If you're interested in trying to coordinate Moab trips, let me know and we can try to synch up. I go to Moab a couple times a year so can lead the trails.

Wow, I'd love to do that! I've been to Moab, but never 4x4'd there so it would be great to go with someone who knows the area. I just started training and it could take as long as 6 months or as short as 4 (they refuse to grant leave during) so I will let you know when I have a better idea of when I'll be done.

thanks bro, i got the angel eyes from a member on this forum, but they are flashtech angel eyes, and then its just simply a job of installing them into the headlight.
I love the OME suspension, it gives me the perfect height along with the perfect comfort for day to day driving and off road driving. For the price, the suspension and the amount of lift, its just a winning combo in my opinion. I always wish i went with the 4 inch superlift, but i mean, that's a little much for me lol
the tires are 265/70/R17 31" tires, they are pretty decent and hold up great :P

Winch mount integrated front bumper is not available. never went into production otherwise i'd be rocking it - i love that thing
i want to try and do it myself at some point
price tag is not that bad for a turn key vehicle
mine has:
4" lift w/ SSR shox
EGR module
5 pintlers
5 BFG KM2s mounted and balanced
everything installed = $5600 over base price (really not bad considering this is about as expert an install as your going to get)
delivery to my door = $800
At the time i had no time and bunch of money and i wanted a vehicle i can wheel and use to get to work until i get to building my CJ7. Its the perfect DD and weekend wheeler combo

The Superlift can be had for around $1800 (the SSR kit is no longer available). However my source told me that Superlift is now only making the WK kits to order so you may have to wait a while to actually get it. Installation is generally at least $750. Then you need tires and wheels or spacers. Tires will run you a grand or so, wheels: $5-800, spacers: no idea but cheaper than wheels.

Im curious as I would like to do some research in this
Kyle, The average 1.5 to 2.5" lift will cost between $200 and $800. Most kits are just a spacer front and rear and rear shocks. The OME kit is the best kit overall and rides/handles the best because they use specifically tuned coil springs for the rear and for the front struts and new rear shocks.
Larger kits will generally cost Over $1500 and will take alot more to install that many do not wish to do them self. But ask Carlos its not that hard to do if you are at all mechanically inclined and the 12+ hours it takes a first timer to do it is some times worth saving the $100 and hour most shops will charge to install it. Though they can usually do it in 4 to 6 hours.

Im sure I would be able to install it, as I have a friend who installed a 6" lift on two of his ZJ....but like Im looking to do the lift, and put some big tires on my stock rims...
I would prefer a 4" + lift...but I have no knowledge of whats better then what

The bigger the tire you go the more likely you will need wheel spacers or after market wheels.
The bigger the lift you get the more stress you put on our crapy IFS and you get other issues and will undoubtedly want the aev module to fix any computer issues.
Just read the specs on the rigs in this thread and find youself a combination that makes you happy.
Also the bigger the tire the worse the MPGs and torque (yes having 4lo and v8 helps but gears help alot more) as there are no re gear kits for the Wk that i know of.

A 4'' lift on a WK is by far more work than a ZJ, I did my brothers XJ in 3 hours with so many rusted bolts (Kyle will tell you since he had a XJ) The most difficult part on the Superlift is the cross member reinforcement plate, It's a pain in the ass to get too if you don't have a hoist. The rest is fairly easy, dropping the front diff to do a minor cut and install the new relocation brackets is actually a bit fun, there is no need to pop out the axles like stated in SL instructions. If you were close, i would deff help you out with the lift install, i have taken my front end off 8 or so times and will be doing it again this weekend to replace my front lower control arms and install Rusty's spacers for a bit more lift.
Thanks Kyle for a good price!

Not a problem bud. Glad to help out another jeeper.
I would love to buy a lift like this but my nuts are tied for now.
And yes i can completely understand the rusted bolt thing. I have had 3 lifted Xjs and i did the lift myself on all of them. Each one of them took well over 12 hours a piece because of rusted bolts or broken parts or issues.
If i could i would love to meet up with You can Carlos and tear up your Wk and install a lift like this. I thrive for this stuff.
Just 2 weeks ago i did a HP D30 swap on my friends 2001 XJ. (99 to 01 have LP D30) I installed the lift on that thing 3 years ago and it still too 6 hours to do the swap out. (mind you ive always used hand tools, dont have a compressor) And ive lifted at least 6 jeeps since i was 16.

An IFS lift is completely different and more complicated than a SFA lift. I'm not saying you aren't capable but don't expect to be done in one afternoon like you could with a solid axle lift.
For 4" you have 2.5 choices: Superlift, BDS, and Rustys, which is a Superlift with a couple extra pieces.
The BDS doesn't give you as much lift as the Superlift, especially in the front, but it has slightly better suspension travel in the rear (the wheel stays centered during compression as opposed to Superlift where the wheel comes forward slightly).
The Superlift gives you a full 4" of lift and has a better designed IFS portion.
I think one guy has the Rustys but I haven't heard a consensus on it yet.
For more info, check this thread out. The guy had a BDS then switched to Superlift, which he likes better: http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9763&highlight=superlift&page=11

not to say you couldnt do it, but download the installation instruction to see what your getting into. theres some cutting and welding involved that i didnt have the tools to do it or wanted to take the chance of messing up my new ride. i took mine back to the shop 3 times to get the tires to not rub and they had a hard time doing it.
it aitnt no bolt on kit
btw i did instal a 3" lift on my old 1993 grand cherokee and after that i decided to pay and im definitely a guy that hates to pay installation hahaha

Another option is the Koni Heavy Track (http://www.koni.com/56+M57d0acf4f16.html) shock. They sound great but are pricey and no one with a WK has tried them yet.

haha you know it. I've got the wheels and tires ready to go. It's going to look sweeeet
definitely. Although they sent me the wrong EGR module ('05-'07, I need the '08+ one ) so once that gets here I can get started. I haven't decided if I want to do it myself or take it to a shop. My main concern is my lifetime powertrain warranty. I feel like if I have a "pro" install it then they'll be less likely to try to blame some problem on my install.

The spacers will not throw anything off since they are not major in lift.

you might not have Electronic Stability Program (ESP) cuz i couldnt even make a regular turn with out it sounding like gear grinding and my transmission seamed so heavy.
also EGR is affected by tire size and wheel spacers.. correct me if im wrong hahaha

i dnt think spacers has anything to do w/ it. this is directly from the AEV site:
Corrects 95% of ESP errors
1 year warranty
Speedometer correction (30-37" tires)
Enable/Disable reverse mirror tilt
Gear ratio correction (3.73 or 4.10)
Enable/Disable one-touch lane change
Can be restored and reprogrammed
Corrects transmission shift points
Built for domestic & export models

Well its not lifted and will most likely never be lifted but i found a loop hole.
New tires, 265/65/17's Filled up the wheel wells nicely w/o looking stuffed, gained about 1" of overall height of the jeep and it looks bad ass.
