View Full Version : Painted my calipers today!

I finally got around to painting my calipers with the G2 kit that I've had laying around. For anyone on the fence about this mod, all I can say is, JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!

I was procrastinating because of the perceived downtime due to prep and waiting, etc. I was very pleasantly suprised by how easy the prep was. I bought two more cans of brake cleaner just to be sure I had enough. I also used a wire brush to loosen any and all dirt and crud. The rear brakes were much worse than the fronts. The fronts required very little prep at all. I did take the calipers off and cleaned the entire thing. I only painted the outside visible surfaces though.

Anyway, after the first brush stroke I knew that it was gonna be a lot easier than I ever would have thought. The epoxy covers very well and there is more than enough product to do multiple coats. I did two coats an all the calipers, an then a third coat on the parts that face the wheel.

After waiting 2 hours, I remounted the wheels and will wait til tomorrow to drive it. Pics later. I'm going to the pool to cool off.

Ok I give tell me about the G2 kit. I am going to do this...so I need a wire brush, brake cleaner and what else? That look s so sweet!!! What are some other colors people have gone with? And do u have stock calipers/brakes? They look big to me ???

The G2 kit is a 2 part epoxy. It comes with a small brush, a popsicle stick to stir the mixture, and a can of brake cleaner. I bought 2 extra cans because my rear brakes were filthy. I had a wire brush and used it to loosen up the caked on dust and grime. You also need a socket set to remove the calipers and clean them properly, as well as to paint them. And those are stock brakes front and rear.

I have seen, black, blue, gold, red and silver, not all on wks but on different jeeps over the years.

G2 has quite a few colors available.

Another option is to remove the calipers and send them to fastforwardwheels.com They will strip them, paint and clear them the color of your choice for $99 each.

They look great but thats alot of money. I think the G2 kit will be well worth it when i do mine. Just take your time and do it right the first time.

Scottina06

not since they were stripped down and polymer coated(aerospace coating). No thick paint means no heat build up.

This is very true.

What if I sent out the front calipers.. would that look wrong? I want to show off the "jeep" on the brakes just a little more.. but the rears I could G2 black and be happy with it.

Scooter, are you taking your wheels off to clean your calipers or does the clear coat wash off easily?

Scottina06

I just squeeze my wash mitt between the wheels to wash them. Yes the coating helps a lot. Last time i did a detail i took the wheels off and put like 4 coats of carnuaba on them.

I just painted my calipers today.. I don't know why I waited so long to do this. They were really corroded and looked awful.

I plan on painting the rusted wheel hubs tmrw as well, so I'll be sure to snap a couple pics.

Ha, I did this mode too. Very quickly though. I'm not really for "2" much bling or flash....Although I like reds and the blues, I tend to stick with the silvers and the blacks......I run 18x9 Modas n the summer so you can really see the caliper. Right now it's gloss black with JEEP in silver. Next spring I will reverse it.
