An attempt at paint correction on a 01' WJ

The wife drives an 01' WJ and it is the true definition of a daily driver. She basically drives it hard, parks it under trees both at home and work and thinks an occasional run through a car wash is good enough. The Jeep is closing in on 200k miles and with a little time on my hands I decided to see just how much improvement I could make to the paint. Knew right from the start it would be a challenge. :D

After a good washing and going over with a clay bar, I hit the paint with meg's ultimate compound using a combo of LC orange flat and cyan hydrotech pads. Followed that up with M205 on white flat pads. I tried a little glaze on the hood in an effort to fill some of the clearcoat damage but it turned out to be a waste of time. Nothing short of repainting the hood would make a difference at this point. Sealed the paint up with BlackFire's wet diamond sealant and called it a day.

For a daily beater with a ton of DWA (daily wife abuse) miles on it, the Jeep still looks pretty good as long as it is not in direct sunlight, ignore the hood and don't look too closely at the rest of the paint. :p

Cueball! I thought you were deed:lol: where ya been? Martyp has disappeared as well:confused:

I could do with some advice on getting my paint to it's best, but without buying waxes that are £400 an ounce!

No such luck mate, just busy...plus it has been the "summer" so XKR and Ninjas only.....I've actually had the Jeep hired out to someone from the States... :D

She has came back in a hell of a mess though... :eek::eek: :( I'll have her fixed up for winter time.....

Haven't heard much from Marty either, but he popped back up on the other forum a few days ago...I think he has taken off the wrap on his jeep...

Don't worry mate, the waxs don't make any different (IMO), it's the polish underneath that makes the car shine!!

Stone Cold-if you dont wantb to pay alot for detailing products...the Meguiers professional series is one of the best lines out there and is very affordable. You dont need to pay outrageous amounts for wax and such. I would put my daily driven family mobile up against anyones at anytime.

Yep, Meg's #16 is one of the best waxes out there for the money, lasts ages too. They do pretty much any product you'd ever really need too and they're all awesome.
