light/dimmer switch problem. need help asap!

my friend picked up a '98 I6 ZJ today and it has somewhat of an electrical issue. when he turns on the lights, everything is incredibly dim on the dash. moving the dimmer switch doesn't make any difference but when he presses on the switch they light up to the level they're supposed to be at. when he lets go of the switch they immediately dim again. anybody have this happen to them? need help getting this fixed.

it's ripped apart in my garage right now so help would be greatly appreciated!

a new switch is most likely gonna fix you up.

we're looking and found one for a '96 that has auto headlamps and fog lights. he does not have auto or fogs, could it still work?

not sure, i think so. those extra features would go away im sure,,,,,,but i dont know.

we went to the junk yard and found one without auto or fogs for $10 and it works like a charm. thanks!
