This is old and simply not true.

The 2012 will have the 6.4L with 470HP, roughly.

The 470 is under rated.

470 = lots of horsepower on the street as many know :)
Add boltons = >500hp, anddd if that isnt enough for you then you should buy something else and GTFO of here, or go buy a drag car :) JMHO

What I can tell you is this, once Johan works his magic on this beast it will be phenomenal! The Jeep is a drag car!

I know this topic has been brought up before, but if you're going to have a 6.4L engine why is it only cranking out 470 HP / 470 lb-ft of torque

That size of engine needs to be cranking out so much more than what they're saying

I remember reading somewhere that someone dynoed a challenger 392, and it had more hp/tq

i am extremely curious to see what this new 6.4 liter is going to do in the new chassis. i know my 6.1 in the wk srt is fun as all hell. i hear the wk2 is even better. have to see what hennessey can do with the 6.4

Yeah I see what you're saying and a lot of that is what chad said in the super conservative stock tunes. That's def why in almost all stockers there is a big demand for custom tunes cause they just don't give you the timing/fuel tables that the performance guys want from factory. A lot may have to do with durability concerns because the more agressive a tune normally the less life you'll see from of the entire rotating assymbly but thats not ALWAYS the case.

On top of that its all engine engineering/design so if we can't get to 500+hp with a tune on this new 392 then id say someone has some questions to answer.

BUT FTR, so everyone knows, the WK SRT8 6.1L motor made around the claimed 425hp at the crank which makes out to almost 70/hp per litre exactly which on a N/A platform is impressive, all your F/I setups will make 1.5-2x more power but that's what you pay for.

THE NEW 6.4L 392 makes a claimed 470hp which is about 74 hp/litre so right there we picked up 4hp/litre on top of what it would have been on the d motor design if we just increased the displacement so clearly they've improved something else. Head design, intake/exhaust design probably being the main factors but Im happy with what they've done and hopefully well have tons of aftermarket options for this 392 but I wont hold my breath haha

Like I said earlier, for all the complainers/haters/naysayers, you don't have to buy this jeep just cause you had one and if you didn't you certainly don't have a gun to your head. Why not just go get a yuppy boy x5/6 m and call it a day. The Jeep is a working mans suv, the bummer is just the insecure midlife crisis yuppy mans car lol, but this is an argument that can't be won by either side so feel free to flame on :)

^soontobesrt, The Jeep may be a working man's SUV, but it's already kicking the Bimmer's insecure, midlife-crisis, yuppy-man's, autobahn arse. All prior to the 2012 SRT8 release.

470 is alot. 50 hp increase over the 6.1, thats alot for just .3 liters more displacment and it is said that this motor will get better mileage. i see it as a win.
