This is my Mt bike that i spent the last 12 months building.
The frame is a KHS Free Ride/All Mountain frame built for Cadillac to market.
I bought the frame and rear shock for $400 and started to build. The only things that are original spec to the factory made bike is the rear shock and the fork.
Specs:
-Frame 19" FreeRide/All Mountain
-Fork Manitou Nixon 6" travel 20mm thru axle
-Rear shock, Manitou Radium variable 4" to 6" travel adjustable.
-Wheel set, Custom built Halo Combat FreeRide/AM Black spokes white rims, 20mm Quanta front thru axle hub, rear Halo Combat quick release hub.
-Crank Tru-Vativ Firex
-Shimano SPD clipless pedals
-Shimano XTR gen2 rear Derailer
-Shimano LX front Derailer
-Shimano LX Chain
-Shimano LX 9 Speed Casette
-Shimano LX shifter/brake lever integrated combo
-Hayes Mechanical Disc brakes (Not hydrolic by choice) 6" rear 8" front
-WTB Speed V seat
-Specialized seat post
-Easton EA 30 handle bar
-IRC Mythos front and rear tires 2.1 (Upgrading to maxxis High Roller 2.3s soon)
This is my other baby. I finally finished it with its matching wheel set a few months ago, until then it made me crazy having mis matched wheels. LOL
I have not been as religious about getting out and riding the past year or so but i hope to use this to get my gut down and get back in to shape (not round). MT biking is a great past time for me and i hope to keep the blood flowing and continue to enjoy the XC trails and hit some of the FreeRide/down hill trials at the local ski mountains before winter.
Anyone else ride?

Honestly i have no idea, Id guestimate around 18 to 22 lbs. My wheels are heavy and my fork is heavy.

No im not, its just a guess. i can try to weigh it.
---------- Post added at 05:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:06 PM ----------
According to my bathroom scale its roughly 34 lbs. i gotta get it to the bike shop to use their bike scale to get an accurate weight.

i gotta weigh my GT that think feels like 5 lbs -10lbs tops!
NHWK05
07-30-2009, 02:17 PM
No way. Lance Armstrons training bicycle is about 11lbs. The average good quality Cross Country Mt bike is about 18 lbs. Mine is heavier because its setup for more free ride and DH riding. Most DH bikes are over 35lbs.

I have an ancient Gary Fisher Hoo Koo Ekoo, back before they were sold to Trek(so that tells you how old it is!) Not a suspension frame, just a cheap set of Rok-Shocks forks. Thing is, this bike is tough. I was well over 300lbs when I bought it and nothing's broke yet. I don't like the forks so I'm going to convert to soild ones once I get back to the states. Back when I bought it, it was close to $1K on the showroom floor.

My first mechanical experience was building bikes when I was a kid. We were dirt poor, so I never had a store-bought brand-new bike. I had to learn quite early on how to fix an maintain them. I had to acquire some good painting skills too. It wasn't long (and before my teen years) before it was thought I had some of the coolest bikes in my 'hood. Even after I started learning auto-mechanics, I kept up with the bike building. I helped my dad restore a vintage 24" Schwinn and got into lowrider styles with my best friend and his dad. Before I came to Korea, I got into the "crossover bikes" They look like road bikes(curved handles), but a little beefier so you can hit a trail or 2 on your road route. This thread has re-awakened that creative bug, and when I get back, I think I will re-do my Gary Fisher and build a crossover or 2...
I really like your bike. It is sharp!

Thats pretty light, everything on my bike is heavy. From the fork ( 6" of travels also adds alot of weight) to the Wheel set to the disc brakes, (mechanical calipers are heavier then hydro). I am really not too concerned with weight, i will get it weighed eventually lol.
B.P.O.D
08-04-2009, 11:27 AM
hehe yeah i havent upgraded to disc brakes yet so i wonder how much weight that will add. the one good thing about GT bikes is that they're known for the light and durable frames
NHWK05
08-04-2009, 12:20 PM
You would not notice the weight by picking it up, but on a scale you would because of disc hubs and all the parts etc. I want AVID juicy hydro discs one day, very small and light weight but powerful.
B.P.O.D
08-04-2009, 12:32 PM
yeah i dont plan on getting any new parts soon b/c i hardly ride anymore:( hahaha but that diablo park is insane!
