I'm just curious what grade fuel everyone uses. I have a 3.7 and I was using 87 for a while. One day I was running on fumes and I rolled into the gas station and I decided to splurge on 95. Oh what a difference! It runs smoother and idels quiter, and shifts better. For the .20 per gallon difference it's worth it IMO. I know it's only a 3.7 so every little bit helps. LOL

I use 89.

2005 non flex fuel 4.7 V8.

I noticed almost immediately when i bought my WK that it kinda ran rough on 87, tried it for a while and it was ok but not perfect. Tried 89 for a while and its much smoother. That and a master jeep tech recommended it for the 4.7. The little pamphlet that was in my owners manual also says to use 89.

For the 10cents more per gallon id rather have the 89. and supposedly there is less ethanol the higher grade you go and ethanol on non flexfuel engines even in the small 10% quanity they put in gas can still screw up sensors and other seals and such in any engine.

I try to only buy from Irving or Cumberland farms/Gulf or HESS

I use 93 or 95 depending on whats available. I usually go to Hess, Sunoco, or I hate to say it Gulf.

I use ethanol-free 93... running the SuperChips 91 tune, but 91 isn't sold around here - only 87/89/93. I've got the Hemi.

Before I got the tune I was running 89.

93
2007 4.7

Reason: Running superchips 91 octane tune, 91 is not sold around here so I have to go with 93.

Other for me...

I use 99, only the best for my baby! Pity I only have a '91 tune though...

Edit: Just read the title... Engine is a 4.7L and I use 99 as it's only slightly more expensive than regular (95).

Why the hate on Gulf? They and Hess are some of the few that dont get gas from the middle east.

Ive never seen 99 before.

Our regular is 95 and its only pennies extra for 99 (Shell V-Power).

A few gas stations here sell 102!! That is about 1.5x the price of 99 though!

Isn't Gulf owned by Exxon/Mobile? Half of the Exxon's and Mobile's by me turned to Gulf stations...

I think Gulf bought out exxon.mobile. We barely have any exxon or mobile stations any more.

6.1L / 93 Octane / Exxon, Shell V-Power or Amoco Ultimate / Why?.....Only the best for my baby. Plus, the Diablo said to use 93 or higher for the canned tune I put in.

I use 93 for my Inline 6. I think I should start going down to 89 though. It's a little pricey.

93. Why because that's the highest I see around here. It's also what I have to do to fend off detonation.

I guess you would need rocket fuel with all these amazing engine mods your doing.

using 87 on my 3.7. Shall try the 93 on an empty tank.

Will the change affect the engine in the long run? If so, negative or positive.

I always use 87, but have used 89 and 93 a couple of times in the past.

I wonder if any harm can be caused by using a higher octane on vehicles that only call for regular. I kind of want to try using a higher octane on my next fill up to see if I notice any big differences.

Anyone able to find ethanol-free gas where they are?

There is a convenience store right next to my subdivision and they have ethanol-free gas. I can definitely tell a difference when I fill up with 93 as compared to when I fill up at a station that has "up to 10% ethanol".

I voted 87 for summer and 89 for winter!

(I didnt realize you could vote for more than one so I manually added it)

X2, anyone have an answer to this?

I don't think it will harm it.... some engines just won't perform any better with higher octane fuel.

The 3.5L HO in my Intrepid R/T ran about the same on 89 as it did on 93.

87 for my 3.5L V6. I used 93 but found that there wasn't a change in performance so I bumped back down to 87.

Interesting thread..

89, 91 and Other. HEMI

89 b/c that's what the manual calls for
91 b/c sometimes I go to the track and I see consistent times with the Diablo 91 tune.
Other b/c sometimes at the track I can't pass up a few gallons of the 100 octane @ $6.79/gal :D

Not that my truck is much faster with the higher octane. It runs smoother and it doesn't sound like it's going to explode as much at high rpm's. It's quiter and smoother.

I just read my manual and it says to put 87. I have been putting 93 since I got it. I though it would be better for it. The manual says that if you put a high octane the engine would feel underpowered.

Fine I guess but it seems to be a little sluggish. I'm going to try SeaFoam. I'm putting it through the Vacuum Line and gas tank. And before my next oil change I will put it in the engine and the put fresh Royal Purple in it!

6.1L Hemi

93 Octane

BP only as certain other brands (like Shell) make it have a very strong odor from the exhaust under heavy throttle.
