So I purchased the '08 LED Tails as I was told it would fit the '09 with some re-wiring. Anybody have an idea how to wire them up, (which wires match the stock wires). I have little interest in paying someone what looks to be a half hour to an hour worth of work. Thanks.

to the OP, do you want plug and play or just play......

pnp to me is a way to unplug the lamps without cutting wires.

play is remove all the plugs and wire them up directly from harness.

let me know which way, ill post up the directions.

also look thru Lipschitz vendor area. there may be a thread there about it.

If you guys can give me the answer to this, you will be my hero(es).

Example: Lets say, I do want LED tails but I also want to be able to use my stocks at anytime (in case I get pulled over etc). Is there a way, I can have the tails interchangeable? Or will the splicing of the wires not allowed the interchangeability I have an 07 so I know plug and play will not work for the LED tails.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your responses will be greatly appreciated.

yes paul you just have to buy 2 new plugs from the dealer and modify those wires!!! you will be able to use the leds and your stocks and interchange them easily!

All right, this will be my project in September. If im able to do these electronic wiring properly or someone in the forums will help, I'll be more than proud to get the LEDS.

If not, I'll just vinyl it.. (Bleh)

This can be done very easily WITHOUT the factory plugs and WITHOUT cutting any wires.......Using t-taps.....

Use these to clip over the stock wiring, then just put the connector on the aftermarket tailight wiring and plug them together. You can unplug them at any time...

what wires get tapped into what wires?

You can make the plug and play using Plugs off of a tow harness and 1 T-tap to grab power for the reverse lamp.

I know Jason (LipschitzWrath) has done them that way.

I cut my reverse plug off but can still go back to stock if need be (as I have Reverse HIDs).

Here's my post from when I did mine:

Alright, finally had a chance to pop one of the LEDs back off to take a pic of the wiring. To start here's the post that I used for the wiring break down, telling you which wire is what:

Oh wait, let's make this easier. Here's the color code.

*****Left (Driver's Side) Taillight*****
White/Dark Green - Left Brake/Turn Signal Positive
White/Violet - Running Light Positive
Black - Ground

*****Left (Driver's Side) Reverse Light*****
White/Light Green - Reverse Light Positive
Black - Ground

*****Right (Passenger's Side) Taillight*****
White/Orange - Right Brake/Turn Signal Positive
White/Light Blue - Running Light Positive
Black - Ground

*****Right (Passenger's Side) Reverse Light*****
White/Light Green - Reverse Light Positive
Black - Ground

The next step is to place the mating connector on the taillight. Obviously, it is the stock connector from an '06 Jeep. Cut it off and replace it. I cannot show this part because I did my conversion about a month ago and didn't save the plugs. Make sure you match up the wiring to how you put it on the new Jeep connector. Here's the color code for what comes on the taillight.

*****LED Taillight Color Code*****
Red - Positive for bright upper half of LED's (Upper Brake/Turn)
Yellow - Positive for bright lower half of LED's (Lower Brake/Turn)
Green - Positive for running lights (All LED's)
White - Reverse Light Positive
Black - Ground

I chose to wire the Yellow and Red wires together to have the entire taillight blink and illuminate together when braking.

The only thing left to do is to take care of the fastening system. The LED tails use the stock system from an '06 Jeep. So you have two options. You can either buy the screws for an '06 Jeep, or you can take off the speed nuts and drill out the holes to match the '07+ tailights. I chose to go this route. The drill size is 3/8". After doing this, the push-pin fastening system used on '07+ models will work just fine.

Here's some pics of the wiring....

You cut off the plug that comes on the tails (07-09 only.....06s are plug and play).

To wire up the reverse lamps I also cut off the reverse lamp plug from the factory wiring harness. I crimped in (heatshrink crimps) a 2 pin weatherpack connector on the LED tail and on the factory reverse wiring.

For the brake, turn and parking functions I used a plug off of a trailer harness wiring kit. I cut the plug off of the trailer harness and crimped it to the LED tail wiring. All the wires coming out of the plug are white...but you can see the red locking tab on the plug coming off of the Lips harness to see the orientation of which wires go where.

Still need to wrap the wiring (was in a hurry when I did it), but here's a pic of everything:

And a pic of the mounting hold drilled out with a 3/8" bit:

I have since wrapped all the wiring.

great pic and explanation! now i have another question... i also have extra wires going to my tails bc i have my wire harness for my trailer lights there. would that cause any issues?

Shouldn't be an issue.......I have a similar setup running LipschitzWrath's Rear Fog T harness to have the rear fogs in my bumper function.
