i have always stayed away from K&N since i got big into offroad, the whole oil filter thing can hurt you in a way, and restrict airflow, i got a Bwoody 4" but as soon as i get the money im junking the K&N filter it came with for an AEM dryflow, i fell in love with theres way back and from what i have seen with the heavy dust trails and mud its the best

Its all up to personal preference and in all honesty for me, my HEMI likes the B-Woody better.
And if anyone buys that intake, they are a fool and their keys should be taken away. JMO

Agreed, i like my AFE dry charger filter better then the K&N. I hope it fits the Bwoody when the 4.7 Bwoody intake is ready.

with this 5.7L (not sure about your 4.7) but a cold air really doesnt do much when you think about it...your EGR is dumping exhaust into the intake....

bwoody 4" and get an AEM dry flow cone, AEM when you break it down really is better, long story short stay away from oiled filters.

I have the AEM filter on my bwoody from the AEM cai kit offered for the 5.7 .. since the dryflow filter is so low to the ground, should I consider investing in a drycharger come winter time? I have a drycharger for the k&n that came with the bwoody but it doesn't fit the AEM intake cone. I've cleaned the cone one time but the rest of the time I just shake all the dirt off and it looks as clean as new.

i never messed much with getting a dryflow, the inside of my intake was always spotless no matter how much dust i encountered on a weekend of wheeling, i was even hood high in mud water with my wrangler ALOT and i would just chug along with no problems. so you might want to, but its your call.

Cold air and Bwoody. Ever wonder why the jeep seems peppier in cold weather? Thats why.
The K&N has an oiled filter (they are becoming less and less popular) and the parts for the kit are kinda cheesy.
My AFE kit is ok, i dont mind it but i just want the Bwoody to have a Bwoody and because they have such good reviews and numbers.

that dual design is crap - your sucking air in left and right causing turbulence when it meets in the middle... smoother flow = more power
Scottina06
08-14-2009, 08:36 PM
I think....and this is just my opinion...that the EGR gas will have little to minut changes on the air coming in
05wkguy

Yeah,EGR is only active during cold starts and certain other, very specific, driving conditions.
There won't be a turbulence problem, but drawing in hot air is not great. I'll stay away from the oiled vs dry filter debate but any name brand CAI is better than stock.

Can you or someone post a link of this bwoody intake for the 5.7L Hemi, the only one on their sites are for the 6.1L SRT8....I'm new to intakes, I don't know much to em.

Thats a very nice intake, my next question is, on the bwoody site it says it may need some small modifications to fit onto the 5.7L Hemi, what kind of mods are we looking at, I plan on ordering one in the next month, is the bwoodyperformance site the only place to get the 4" Intake?

Since I had the Airaid, which used the bottom of the stock intake box, I had to remove that and then use the bolt from the stock box and use it to secure the Bwoody.

Is there any real data on why a dry filter is "better" than the oiled? I have the K&N CAI, and notice when I take it off to clean there is a bit of the oil inside the tube. My cousin claims a K&N filter caused problems with his engine, getting the oil in the intake or something. I am careful how much I spray on now after cleaning it. I notice my filter looks filthy after even a month, ive cleaned it 3 times now and only had it since last december i wanna say. I did notice water was allowed to splash up into where the filter is from an opening in the fender plastic so I sealed that up.

the red can is a Catch can.
but id have to dig it up to find the data..i read through it a long time ago. but the vehicles who get the most problems from K&N are the ones with Mass air flow sensors. it will eventually get oil all over the sensor. but the oiling is an issue as stated before. id really have to dig again to find it all.

Thats exactly what my cousin said, his MAFS got ruined from the oil. But is that to say its because of a properly oiled K&N filter, or because of someone who just sprays the hell out of it till it drips thinking more is better? I just dont see how K&N would still be in business, going so strong of a brand name, if there filters cause an issue like that if "used in accordance with manufacturers specifications".

Yep, MAF issues I've heard of have been from people over oiling the filter.
Another vote for the Bwoody from me.....I bought mine used in silver and had the bends smoothed and then painted House of Kolor Kandy Cobalt Blue:

i'm sure it sounds good, fits like dogshit, and makes no noticeable power gains other than throttle response.
