that would be amazing. i have all ways wished my XJ had a standard transmission. there was one i looked at that was it was a black 99 two door 4.o but needed major body work and engine work. later on the motor dies it will be replaced with a standard trans and maybe a 360 IDK yet.

I was thinking that you could convert the raido controls (on the back of the steering wheel) to control the transmision.
Denny-gonna go with the wranglers 6-speed?

The only thing I see that would stop this mod from happening is the extra 2 contacts in their steering column clock spring, does anyone know if we have these?
Anyone work at a dealership and have access to some wiring schematics, or have torn their steering wheel/column apart?
If we have those 2 extra contacts we are gravy! I'll have to look at the room behind there as I know mine has all the controls behind there also. If there is room I'm doing this Mod.

Almost 3 yrs old and I'm raising this thread from the dead.
I shall pose the question...Is it possible to put the WK2 SRT8 steering wheel on the WK1? I intend to find out and I will make it work!
This brand new 2012 SRT8 steering wheel showed up today.
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e295/My_Kiddos/JAMES%20STUFF/IMG_0317.jpg
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e295/My_Kiddos/JAMES%20STUFF/IMG_0315.jpg
I am currently mapping out the connectors and pins to see what goes where and connects to what on the SCM (steering control module). Here is the 05 wiring diagram and according to it there are 2 unused pins (1 and 4).
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e295/My_Kiddos/JAMES%20STUFF/SteeringControlModulePin-outs.jpg
I intend to use these pins (1 and 4) as the up and down shift for the autostick and use the ground already there (pin 5) to complete the circuit. This will make the paddles functional when wired to the ESM. When using the Autostick feature all you are doing is grounding the signal wire, which completes the circuit and makes the trans shift.
Tomorrow I will acquire the wiring diagram for the 2012 and compare the 2 and iron out all the electronics.
Next step after that is to check the steering shaft splines and see if it fits the new WK2 wheel. As retooling would be very expensive I have high hopes that Chrysler kept it the same. We will soon find out.
I do have a question for those that have swapped their WK2 wheel to the WK2 SRT8 wheel. What is this gray thing in the pic below and did you have to swap it over to your new wheel?

Yup! Mapping out the connections as we speak.
oh man, i REALLY would like to see this actually become reality. Definately worth bringing this thread up from the dead
One way or another it's going to be a reality. I just hope it's rather easy vs hard and expensive. Either way it's going to be a Kick-ass mod.
Both Clocksprings have 12 pass through connections, so we are golden there.
Here is what the 05 has in no particular order:
4 Driver Squib circuits= dual stage drivers airbag system (Squib 1 and 2, dual lines each)
3 S/C circuits = cruise control buttons
1 empty circuit space in the 05's
2 Horn circuits
2 Radio control MUX circuits
I will have to test the resistance stepping on the MUX circuits as well as the S/C circuits and others to see if it matches the 05 circuits resistance. If it is the same then we are golden. If not, time to source some parts. No worries though I got the hookup on that.
Looks like once I have the 2012 diagram tomorrow me and my Ohmmeter are going to be putting in some quality time.

Thanks Marco and Matt!
Ideas and theories are still evolving.
As I was digging more into the 2005 wiring I have discovered that I do not even need to mess with the shifter module or the shifter itself. I just need to tap into the autostick sense circuit at the PCM/TCM (as it is combined in the 05) and supply it with the proper voltage to get the desired response. Makes it way easier! Should be able to do this with 1 pin through the clock spring as it already has a voltage feed. I just need the proper voltage out to the PCM/TCM.
The AutoStick Switch is located in the Shift Lever Assembly (SLA). The gear requested by the AutoStick selection is then sent over the AutoStick Up/Down sense circuit to the PCM to engage the requested gear. Normal AutoStick voltages are: Down = 0.71 to 1.11 volts, Up = 2.02 to 2.41 volts.
On a 2005 JGC PCM (C3) pin 27 is the autostick sense circuit - T5 20gauge DG/YL wire. Put the correct voltage to this circuit and we have the ability to shift.
I should put this in there as a disclaimer: Idea's are still evolving and being tested. I will do a full write up once completed and functional.
Remember this is on a 2005 JGC 5.7L HEMI with QD2 so check your wiring diagrams first as you are messing with VERY expensive parts (clock spring, PCM/TCM, SLA and Transmission to name a few)! I am doing this to mine with the info I have for my Jeep. If you choose to do this also please double check all your and my info as your Jeep may be different.
I am not responsible for you turning your Jeep in a Lawn Ornament!
Anyone have a 2012 SRT8 Service Manual so I can cross reference circuits, signals and voltages for the paddles and other steering wheel controls?

so wait, did we ever get the paddle shift mod mapped out for the wk's?
I'm gonna be glued to this thread

I have mapped the 05 and the 12 and am currently lining up the circuits.
Many Circuits are named the same they are just in different pin locations so it is going to require a rewire of the 12 wheel to work with the 05. As of right now it is looking very promising.
The paddles will require a new circuit that passes through the 05 clockspring, but this isn't an issue as there is an open spot. This wire will then feed a regulated voltage to the C3 PCM connection PIN 27 that will allow control of the autostick.
Normal AutoStick voltages are: Down = 0.71 to 1.11 volts, Up = 2.02 to 2.41 volts
All Radio MUX, Cruise Controls and the Dual Stage Driver Air Bag Squibs will work.
The things I'm not so sure about right now are the:
Heated Wheel
Voice recognition
Phone button
Up Arrow
Down Arrow
Right Arrow
Back button
Mode button
These are all controlled by a COM-LIN BUS SCM circuit - 1 C3 D507 22g BK in the 6way connection.
For this I will have to check the stepped voltages and their corresponding funtions. If I can get the voltages to match up with what the 05 wants to see I may be able to activate them or use them for another purpose. If not they will be disabled.
One thing I know I will not be able to get working is the adaptive cruise as we have no front radar and the circuitry for that system is nuts.
I will be able to retain all current 05 functions and have functional paddle shifters. Which will accomplish my main goal.
Huge thanks to Rob for the Mopar connector site!
More work to do Stay tuned!

I see you have a 05 Limited w/ the HEMI. You shound have the Autostick feature the same as I do. If you have the Autostick feature this mod will allow you to control it with the paddle shifters also. If your Jeep doesn't have it I cannot add it as it's in the PCM/TCM's logic circuits. I'm just sending a regulated voltage to the Autostick sense circuit that will command it to shift either up or down depending on said voltage. This mod in no way alters the factory program, it mearly allows you to command it from the steering wheel vs the shifter.
You should have it though and as you have a 05 your wiring will be exactly like mine. Anything besides a 05 and your going to have to check the wiring as it may be different.

You are right, I do have auto-stick.What i ment was full control. mine lets me limit the top gear- like every other auto. I cant force it up or keep it from downshifting on its own( i cant lug a gear) Those paddles look sweet, but if I cant MAKE it do what i want/input, then its just pretty.

Man thats gonna be so f'n sexy. I cant wait to see if it works.
I know I can't wait to get it all put together. In tests it already works. I have made the Autostick shift by manually applying the proper voltage to the autostick sense circuit with a voltage regulator and a probe to the circuit. Now I just have to wire the steering wheel paddles to send the proper signal/voltage to the Autostick sense circuit.
James why you must maping all....?

If I was using just a set of paddles and my 2005 steering wheel I'm sure I could, but I am using a whole new steering wheel with all new controls (airbag, cruise control circuits, radio mux controls, horn) and adding paddles into the mix.
Everything is wired different and in different locations in the 2012.
So far only 3 circuits will remain the same but those will have to be re-pinned into the 05 connector. The Air bag also has the same circuits but all 4 of their circuits will have to be re-pinned and placed into the 05 connector.
2012 SC circuits:
SC Switch Return - 5 C3 V937 22g GYSC Switch Sense 1 - 6 C3 V371 22g LGSC Switch Sense 2 - 4 C3 V372 22g YL/BK
2005 SC circuits:
SC Switch Signal Return 2 C3 V397 20g VT/BR -2(page 8W-33-2)SC Switch Signal 1 - 3 C3 V371 20g VT/OR -3 (page 8W-33-2)SC Switch Signal 2 - 4 C3 V372 20g OR/VT - 1(page 8W-33-2)
I will have to put the 2012 pins into the 05 connector using this order:
2012 #5 pin into 2005 #2 cavity
2012 #6 pin into 2005 #3 cavity
2012 #4 pin into 2005 #4 cavity
This will match up the circuitry with the 2012 command modules to the 2005 PCM/TCM and provide the proper response when a control is activated.

True, I have redone my whole shift schedule and at WOT shifts are at 6,500, but it will still downshift on it's own. With the modified trans tune you can make it act exactly how you want. Mine will lug a gear at light throttle (1,050 RPM's at about 40 mph), but if you stomp it flashing the converter and sending it to 15psi all in one act, now that really puts a smile on anyones face. Well except my wife's...She got :slapfight:and I was like
My light throttle shift schedule is set to max mpg's (not that I get great mpg's I'm just trying to get out of single digits ). My high throttle schedule is set for power.
All in all though my transmissions logic is the same as yours I just have a built converter, trans, valve body and tuning. So it acts differently.

The good news.
The electronics I can get to work with a bit of rewiring, soldering and a few other modifications.
Horn, Airbag, Stereo, Paddles and Cruise will function. The heated wheel I can get to work but not in conjunction with my heated seats button. It will have it's own switch (a re-purposed one already on the wheel with a bit of reworking). I'm not sure if I even want to mess with the heated wheel though.
The bad, but not so bad news.
Getting the wheel to fit is going to take a dual splined collar insert/adapter. Off to the Fab shop for some CNC time tomorrow.
As seen in the pic below the 05 wheel shaft is quite a bit smaller than the 2012.

No worries. It wouldn't be a true mod without a bit of blood, sweat and a few cuss words...
I just have to make an adapter sleeve with the 2005 splines on the inside and 2012 splines on the outside.
I am glad there is a considerable difference between the 2. It makes it easier to make the sleeve. If it was to small of a difference I would have to adapt the whole 2012 steering column, which I have already sourced 38 miles from me.
One way or another it's getting on there.
