I hear you have to baby the saddle interior more than black or tan (ie maintain it). I'm real picky about the left side of the driver seat getting worn out. I have a 2008 Denali and the seat, eventhough i try to be very careful, cracks on the side after a year or so of entering and exiting. What is the best product to use to keep the front seat from cracking or wearing out when you get in and out of the jeep?

I'm extremely picky of leather products and truly dislike most on the market because they alter the appearance, adding shine, changing feel characteristics etc to the leather once applied.

This is the best leather cleaner in the business. Apply it with a microfiber towel soaked in water so the towel is moderately soaking wet. Spray the leather cleaner onto the seat and wipe with the soaking towel. The cleaner will suds up and simply let water/soap mixture air dry and watch the magic happen. In addition to cleaning / feeding the leather, wrinkles in the leather will tighten right up and look like no one ever sat in the seat.

I have used this technique over and over on black leather seats on my Benz, Porsche, ZR1 etc.

I was wondering the same thing. Does the zymol spray act as a protection or does it just simply clean?

I purchased 303 Aero protectant, haven't tried it yet however but it has great reviews..

If you want some free samples, for $7 bucks (shipping you get a couple of their products..)

The Zymol conditioner as well as Zaino leather conditioner, lexol, etc all suck the big one. They change the look of leather and make it look artificial, basically like shit.

To answer your question..

The Zymol cleaner has some light conditioners and that works for someone picky like me. But.. If you are looking for the best conditioner that does not alter the appearance then you need this conditioner. It soaks into the hyde & dries with completely flat finish.

I tried the Meguiar's since I do like their waxes and polishes but the leather care is too greasy and gives my interior a funky mildue smell.

Ok Tony, don't feel pressured, but I ordered a bottle of this stuff on your recommendation ! If the saddle leather on the dash of my Summit curls up and peels off I'll be sure to let ya know.....

The 303 works great. I have a 2007 A3 and the leather still looks brand new b/c of this stuff.

Here is what the manual says:

Leather Seat Care And Cleaning
MOPAR Total Clean or equivalent is specifically recom- mended for leather upholstery.
Your leather upholstery can be best preserved by regular cleaning with a damp soft cloth. Small particles of dirt can act as an abrasive and damage the leather upholstery and should be removed promptly with a damp cloth. Stubborn soils can be removed easily with a soft cloth and MOPAR Total Clean or equivalent. Care should be taken to avoid soaking your leather upholstery with any liquid. Please do not use polishes, oils, cleaning fluids, solvents, detergents, or ammonia-based cleaners to clean your leather upholstery. Application of a leather conditioner is not required to maintain the original condition.

How do you find the Zymol works on these seats? As far as film or change in appearance/feel.

GO HABS!!

For the record, most people tend to use too much product and way too often on leather seats.

For regular dusting and wiping I just use a wet microfiber and let it air dry. Once in a while I will use a small amount of Zymol cleaner wtih the wet microfiber.

Yes that's correct, some manufacturers like Mercedes Benz specifically say in the manual NOT use any cleaner or conditioner of ANY type on their AMG Nappa leather seats, just water.

I would suggest to use a small amount of Shield Industries Conditioner on the left side of the drivers seat to feed that high wear area. On the dash I don't suspect anything other than a water and the once in a while a small spritz of the Zymol cleaner with a wet microfiber will ever be needed.

Zymol cleaner for cleaning only IMHO. I used the Zymol leather Treat on my Summit dash (3 applications) and followed it up with the Zymol Leather Conditioner (yellow product), which I will use for maintenance. Dash has a very low sheen, most of the "roughness" is gone and it looks good to me. I used one application each of the Cleaner, Treat and Conditioner for the balance of the leather. I started this because the Summit dash looked and felt to me like it would dry up and blow away within the year. Of course, I'm in AZ so you need something better than just the cleaner for sure. No way in the world would that be enough here and even Zymol doesn't recommend it. It states on the cleaner to use the conditioner for best results afterwards. Use what you feel is best but I'll stick with the Zymol.

I would also like to remind you, by using a conditioner you are protecting the light color leather from Jeans & Denim stain..

I've used the Zaino products for years with great results. I just applied the conditioner to our new Overland's seats last night. I did not notice any appreciable change in appearance of the leather, but since we have the black, maybe that would be more difficult to discern than on the Saddle color. It did smell nice this morning when I got in. I need to call Yankee Candle and see if they can make a Zanio Leather Conditioner smell. Mmmmmm. :)

^^ Lingo is funnin' with us... no one in their right mind would use WD-40 on a leather interior? Unless you wanted the dash and trim leather to pop right off the adhesive?? As for the smell, that would be reminiscent of a road trip with Hunter S. Thomson. . . but I digress. ;D

My brother-in-law owns a Porsche GTS a MB GL450 and a BMW 535i, and he swears by a product called Leatherique (16oz Kit). Has anyone tried this on their Saddle?

Yes and no. I figured that by now somebody, somewhere would have tried this. There are some people that treat WD-40 like holy water from the pope.

I have a 2012 Overland Brilliant Black with the saddle black interior.

I've used Zymol for over a decade. Mercedes recommended Zymol until they started selling repackaged products with their name on it.

Yes Zymol gives the leather a slight sheen but it does dissipate fairly quickly. I buff with a cotton towel and it's not a big deal.

My last two MB's had vented seats and the leather was new looking when I sold them. Each was four years old.

You're all going to call me crazy, but after my dealer has already agreed to replace my seat covers I decided to do a little test to see if I could get rid of the dry feeling the leather had. Mind you I use conditioning wipes on my leather every week when I clean it and the seats still cracked at 6000 miles.

I used good old fashion Mink oil:eek:, and guess what the seats are soft, supple and do not look like I just armor all them. I applied the Mink oil by hand making sure I didn't a) get the summit logo in the head rest and b) not go directly over the stitching or the perforations. I did do all four seats the center console, the doors as well as the dash. I let everything set for about 12 hours and then wiped everything down very thoroughly with a towel until all the sheen was gone. I wish i had taken some before and after pictures of the driver seat because there is a huge difference in the area that is notorious for cracking.
