OK...now I have the modding bug to the fullest...I can't stop. I want to get HID's lows/fogs. Please post your model/type/part#/install/experience for those of you with aftermarket HID's. I have already decided I will go with 5K OR 6K lows/fogs and will prolly get a set of 3K bulbs for the fogs (for you Nate)!

I am also a little slow...I have the low-end stock headlights (the ones that cover the bulb with the chrome piece thingy like the tech term?) How will these work with my set-up? Do I remove the chrome bulb cover? I have been reading about the "projector" vs "other" and do not know which one I have (I haven't felt this dumb in a while) I am pretty sure I do not have projectors based on what I have read, so I think I am an "other"...

Is this the kit I should get??? What is the difference between Volt/ExtremHID/Xenondepot other than price????? Also, I cannot find our fogs (9055 per application guide)...please opost link for fog HID kits...Thanks for the help guys!

Everything stays the same. All you have to do is change the bulb and mount the ballst and relays. and plug everything in. Fogs took me 15 min. Lows took about an hour cause I didn't have any instructions and I'm OCD with how things are wired and mounted. LOL I have the Xentec kit. 6k lows, 3k/5k fog bulbs.

08-21-2009, 09:23 AM
Thanks Nate. Where did you get your Xentec kit? Also what is the warranty? Price? Looks Like I will need to spend $3-400 on the fogs and lows?

nate bought the kit from Tony as did a few of us on this site. he gives a great warranty and has great prices..

Thanks Irf! So is this new slim ballast a better design? And $100 seems like a great price...does Tony sell the fogs as well?

Also, can anyone post a link or pics on the install...or just tell me if there is any splicing required. It appears that it is a plug and play harness and all you need to do is secure the ballasts...

B.P.O.D
08-21-2009, 09:40 AM
yeah they are slimmer and easier to install. i will be trying them out this weekend so ill post up my review... they are literally plug and play!!! sooo easy to do...

there are a few threads about the install. the main thing is that you need a relay for the lows and possibly for the fogs(i didn't need a relay with the fogs on my 08)

you also have to make sure you have a good ground for the relay! really easy to install though... yes he does sell fogs as well. i also ordered the 3k bulbs which give a nice yellow glow!

08Hemi
08-21-2009, 09:59 AM
Don't the kits come with a relay? And why did the fogs not require a relay? And the ground you are referring to is for the ballast? Im confused so I apologize for asking so many questions...I just did a stereo install and this seems more difficult to understand b/c it is all new to me!!!

I don't know if it makes any difference, but I plan on buying the XenonDepot kit, it comes with a relay and its the extreme kit, 199.99 tho. Sounds like a great kit from what the guys on here tell me

White WK Swagga
08-21-2009, 10:07 AM
I don't think 08 needs relays for fogs. Tony does have good prices and warrantys. From what I hear Xenon depot has the best top of the line kits. I don't what your budget is but they're more $$$ but you get what you pay for. I'm not trying to take away from Tony by any means. He has a great product. Mine works perfect from day one and no issues.

08Hemi
08-21-2009, 10:09 AM
I know I like that one too...but for half the price it doesn't make sense if others have the BajaHID kits and are happy with them! Irf is going to install these over the weekend and hopefully have great news for JG!

hahahaha nate i will remember that the next time you ask me for wiring help!!!! LOLOLOLOL!!!!

yeah dude im sure they will be great. smaller ballasts will be easier to install as well... i will take pics installing my ballasts so you can see how easy it is to install these kits!

It's nice the new small ballst look like they have a hole to mount them. Are they rubber coated or something? Mine get pretty hot under the hood sometimes.

Scottina06
08-21-2009, 01:22 PM
Not trying to pick on Tony or bajahid...but you get what you pay for. The product is inferior. There are radio transmission problems becasue they have no edi filter, water getting into ballasts, multiple ballast failures, bulb failures, wiring and relay short wires, water getting into relay fuses unless you turn them a certain way. Now in bajahid's defense...some of this could happen to any kit.....but some of it is poor quality. I'm not picking on Tony...cause he is a great guys an offers a great price and warranty. i'm just looking out for my friends and fellow Jeepers. I wouold want someone to tell me the same thinga nd be honest than to let me learn a hard $100 lesson.

08Hemi
08-21-2009, 02:42 PM
Who's the pooper party pooper? Scott is...HAHA

No worries, I appreciate the looking out and info! So are the xenondepot kits the best on the market??? Nothing but the best for Jill (my jeep) so I will save up if they are the ones to get!!!

BUT if we are talking half price, great warranty and Tony is a good guy...then I may save the $$$. I will wait for Irf and do a little more research and go from there...

I have another question...I am looking at this $270 phillips kit http://www.carhidkits.com/xenon-hid-kit-99/philips-hid-kit-4300k-or-6000k-243.html I came accross this:

HID Problem Eliminator Plugs

$54.99

TWO - HID kit problem eliminator plugs. Get rid of the strobe light effect in vehicles with aftermarket hid kits. Eliminates annoying bulb out dashboard indicator light. If your vehicles new hid kit flashes like a strobe light when you start your vehicle, then this is for you! If your vehicle a bulb out indicator light on after installing your hid kit then this is for you. Our new problem iminator plug smooths out the voltage and provides constant power to the hid conversion kit elimating the flickering lights. These plugs will also provide the correct resistance to fool the vehicles computer into thinking there are good headlight bulbs in use. This will turn off the annoying dash board bulb out indicator light. This product is recommended for newer vehicles with this problem and not required for many vehicles. Don't give up on trying to buy an HID kit. Buy these plugs and have problem free hid installation.
If your Vehicle is on this list make sure and add the plugs to your order, if not you will have problems or issues while installing the HID's, no matter what HID kit you purchase on the market!

- Jeeps 99' and up / For Headlights Only

Do all jeeps require this "eliminator harness"...and have all of you purchased the relay harnesses as well? Seems like power directly from the battery is better, but is it required? Highly recommended? I want to do it right so if you think the relay harness is a good call just say so!!!

All of them no, but I know Jason (LipschitzWrath) had to use them on his because one of his lights would constantly go out.

Any about the relay harness, you need them for the highs/lows

Scottina06

just get the hiD kits and relay harnesses and you will be fine

B.P.O.D

all you need is the relay kit that comes with tony's kits and thats it. you have an 08 like me so most likely you wont need the relays for the fogs. i don't have them for the fogs either. installing my new ballasts today:) they just came in the mail 10 mins ago!

thats the problem with cheaper kits....the bulbs and other parts are a "smorgesborg" of parts. You may have 2 different manufacturers bulbs with totally different glass in a kit. Its especially true with 2 different kits...ie. fogs and lows. Irfy probably got lucky and got bulbs with glass from mthe same manufacturer.

FYI-if you dont get bulbs with glass made by Osram or Phillips...you are wasting your money

Scott can I but the phillips bulbs to work with my xentec ballast?

well...in the end it all depends on the connectors for the xentec kit. If they are the same as whatever bulbs you are looking at....then yes. BUT...Phillips does not make bulbs for the aftermarket.(ie. 9006, 9005, etc etc.) They only make OEM bulbs. They do sell the glass to aftermarket bulb makers though. So if anyone tries to sell you Phillips Bulbs...they are infact Phillips rebased bulbs or phillips glass.

yuo will need an HID kit. I highly recommend a xenondepot xtreme HID kit. There are cheaper alternatives....but for a few $$$ more you get the best HID kit on the market.
An HID kit will include:
-bulbs(9006 for the WK lows)
-ballasts(fire the bulbs)
-wiring
-relays(relays are a must on the WK...dont buy a kit withoput them. They connect the ballasts directly to the battery)

The 9006 HID kit will work on those headlamps or your stock headlamps.

I know this post is old but I wanted to weigh in on carhidkits.com. We purchased a HID kit for my son's 2000 Cherokee XJ. The kit consisted of 2 bulbs, 2 slim ballasts and one relay. We followed the installation instructions to the tee. Only one of the original bulbs worked in low beam and high beam. Carhidkits.com sent a replacement bulb for the non-working original. This replacement bulb worked in low beam but not in high beam. We contacted carhidkits.com again to get another replacement bulb. This time we had to pay shipping for a replacement of the replacement of the original bulb. The replacement bulb this time worked. With all working correctly, I ordered two backup bulbs and one backup ballast in case something quit working. Three months later and one of the bulbs quit working. No problem since we had two backup bulbs right? Well neither one of the backup bulbs works. Carhidkits.com will not return our money, nor will they replace the parts. Carhidkits.com wants us to completely uninstall the kit, box everything up, pay to ship to them so they can perform their own tests.

DO NOT BUY form this group. REPEAT, DO NOT BUY form carhidkits.com
