I was looking on youtube the other day and came across a video of an srt8 where the kid said he bought a $60 switch to make it rear wheel drive only. I have tried to google search for something like that but no results. Is there something that will do that?

Yeah its called the GSM Switch/ABS delete mod. Please do not do this mod. You will absolutely toast your T-Case. Not worth it to do burnouts. JMHO.

I had that switch and the problem is the transfer case doesnt fully disengage and it eventually wears out t-case.

If you do that you'd need a custom rear driveshaft made as they run off the transfer case. Doable but seems pretty extreme.

Def a NO then, I was just seeing if it was possible. Mainly for better gas mileage, i wouldnt be using the feature to smoke the rears or anything as I really baby my WK and dont want to beat her. Lol. But i can see where something like that would slowly ruin the transfer case over time.
Thanks for the responces, I was really curious what that kid was talking about. And yea, with that mansion in the backround can tell his parents bought him the srt8 for his 14th birthday. Lol. I wouldnt complain if my parents gave me one though, would you???? hehe

So is it electronic? Im not really understanding how the transfer case would be able to disengage just from a switch. More info please. :D

And nope, no burnouts, my tires cost enough. Lol. I was thinking for gas mileage, only having the rears working instead of all fours.

I am assuming that your Wk does not have the chrome lever next to the shifter because its a 3.7 and most did not have a Low range setting.
The WK is the first full electronic shifting t case in jeeps. All the old jeeps had a lever that was linked to the t case and you would directly shift the t case in and out of 2wd, 4wd and 4lo and N.
On the WK with the Low range setting, the jeep is All wheel drive like your 3.7 wk, but it has a lever next to the shifter that makes a little electric motor switch the t case between AWD and 4Lo. Then there is a little LED dot next to that, if you push that with a pen tip i shifts the T case in to Neutral so if it had to be towed by 2 wheels or flat towed behind a motor home it can be don w/o hurting anything.

The 3.7's (mine) do not have the hi/low gear capability. 3.7's are no even Trail Rated.
So basically that $60 switch acts like the pen switching it into "2 wheel drive", kinda in a way? Dam these cars get more and more electronic and complicated.

Off topic, but it sucks how there's no LSD in the SRT.
And wouldn't they be popular when their parents came home to find the road out front so ****ed up from skids! lol

When I was 16 back in highschool one of my best buds sisters had a sweet 5.0 mustang we would sneak out and blow doughnuts right in front of the house and all the way down the street. His parents were that nieve that they would never think we did it. And I bet that kids parents are prob never home, off traveling somewhere for work. F, i'd luv to have that kinda life, but I work hard for what I have, same as everyone on this site and glad there's such a great group of people on here.:)

regardless what a lot of people say the SRT drivetrain and the 3.7 drivetrains are different and this switch wouldnt work on the 3.7. Also....there are a few 3.7's with 4lo.....it was an option...but rare

SRTs have a much beefier rear axle as well, the stock wk has a 8.25 rear axle, the SRT8 has a nice D44 rear axle.

Well not really, All it is is a electric motor shifting the t case from 4H to 4L. The x8 wks and some very rare 3.7 wks have a 2 speed t case where as your wk only has a single speed AWD t case. its still plenty capable off road but wont have a low range setting for high torque scenarios.

Thats one of the reasons I actually WANTED the 3.7, I never tow anything and never go off road to need it. in my last 2 GC's I only used low gear once stuck in 2 feet of snow, and I just got myself more stuck with it. lol.

4Lo plus Stuck in snow = Bad Idea. Its better used for Towing a boat out of a river, towing anything at a slow speed/high torque situation and rock crawling.

Pity he didn't fall off and get run over, now that would've been entertainment! Or am I just crewel for thinking that because he was sitting/kicking the hood???
