i have decided soon as my baby gets out of the shop i will be lifting it and new and tires 265s. so i am wondering what is the best ride with spacers and to go bilstein or old man emu's? and for the spacers daystar or rough country or rocky road? and what wheel spacers i would need for those tires?

It gave my light weight 3.7 a full 3". I love the ride quality some much better than stock. Very very bumping at first. I don't know if I got use to it or it settled or what but I liked it even when is was bumpy.
I'd go OME because you'll just end up having to replace the stock shocks anyway so just get a kit that comes with shock which would be OME. And those OME shocks are goooood.

yes get spidertrax spacers

Also, I mainly chose the tires I have because they are "C" load range. Lighter than "E" load. And they are BFG's. Guaranteed 50,000 miles at the least even though they are mud tires.

Go MD, not HD.
Unless you plan on installing an ARB Bumper or something.

most of the forms i have read have said they like the ride more with the hd than the md and i pull up to 4 snowmobiles in winter you want hd for towing correct?

The HD/HL was designed for a "constant" heavy weight load rather than towing. Meaning ARB bumpers and wrenches. But you are right, many people do get the HD/HL for towing. You'll be fine.

Also, if you tow as much as you say you do, I would stay away from spacer lifts. Just my opinion.

yeah thats why i was thinking this lift was better tan spacers wasn't sure how they would work towing. is just a flat trailer not a enclosed so doesn't weigh as much.

the spidertrax spacers are a hub-centric so all the weight of your jeep wont be resting on just the lugs...I recommend them as far as a cheeper space same quality i dont know

Remember...the more wheel offset, the more stress on the axles. Especially if you tow frequently.

I've got the rr 2.25 with bilsteins. My 265/70/17 long trails fit great without spacers. Towing my pop-up with my 3.7 is easy work too. Much better looking than stock!

so how much tow capacity do you think you would lose?

I trimmed the uca ball joint bolt about 3/8". Still have enough to get a wrench on if needed too... I only get rubbing at full lock going over bumps. I couldn't believe they fit, trust me...

I keep telling you guys I don't like wheel spacers.
My cousin, who was a mechanic, installed spacers on his SUV and checked the nuts regularly. He left for work one morning, a front wheel came off and he lost control. He ended up hitting a school bus, rolled in a ditch and burned alive.
I would suggest not using wheel spacers also. Old school 4x4 wheeler guys will tell you the same thing.

I found me a good deal on some tires so I had to buy them 255 75 17 bfg mud terrain and rims off the rubicon $500 with 80% left. will I need spacers with the old man emu hd also will I need to do anything else to make them not rub or any thing.

They will only rub at the very last turn of the wheel right when you hear the power steering pump strain the engine. You do not need spacers at all. Not at all. That's only if you are not afraid to cut the bolt. I wasn't afraid. I cut the mother. Lol.
The WK looks so much better with all of the tire and wheel inside the wheel well. You will love those tires. I do. I have almost 3,000 miles on mine without signs of wear. That could be because I don't take turn fast. And the tires have a hard long lasting tread.
A friend of mine has over 70,000 miles on his. Look:

Also, you have the 05 WK. The JK Moab wheels will not hit your calipers. You're in good shape bud.

yeah that was the thing i want to sell rims and get some black steal rims or i will have to use spacers till i get new rims

The more offset with those tires, the more you are going to hit the pinch weld.
yetjeep
05-01-2011, 09:36 PM
what is the best rim set up for that size of a tire then? and is there any where that shows how to cut the bolt?
lll2for3lll
05-01-2011, 09:42 PM
I'm not sure how much offset will cause the tire to hit the pinch. But.....I don't have spacers and the tire is really close to the pinch but it's clear that it will never hit it.
Now I will admit that I hit it once on the driver side when turning right with the tire compressed. It barley touched it though. I'll take pictures. I have tire marks inside too that I will take pictures of where I made it rub on purpose so that I would know my limits. I'll show you tomorrow.
As for cutting the bolt most use a hacksaw. We used air tools. My mechanic said cutting the "hex" part of the bolt has never stopped him from removing the nut before. So I said to hell with it.
This is what I did. Make your own decisions. Hope I helped.
