So I want to remove the air intake cover pictures below. Has anyone done this?:confused::confused: Is this cover for debris and water or just water...I think that it will allow more air directly into the stock box for my AIRAID CAI (well actually Hot Air intake right? haha) Please respond asap as I want to remove this now as I have my grill off

If anything, don't remove it as it at least channels the air to the airbox. I'd be more inclined to leave it in there and simply cut the front out, leaving a border of around 1 inch so it doesn't turn all floppy on ya.

I had it for a while before i built my intake. I never noticed any problems, drove through some heavy rain while it was like that.
Improvements were minimal.
Here's a pic

thats the snorkel that catches cool air coming from the front......I would leave it

I want to leave the snorkel but do like Matt did and remove the cover. IMO this will allow MORE cold air into my intake with the cover off...so should I leave it or take it off?
Did you cut the tabs on the top off Matt? Or how did you remove it?

it's quite a bit different from my '06 version from memory? The 06 actually aims the snorkel toward the front more as opposed to dragging hotter air from the area directly in front of the condensor/radiator..
Basically, where the plastic rivets are is where they've added the extra bit. I's take the rivets off and jet the extra front part.
I reckon this redesign is in reaction to all the drowned WK's.......

Flathead screwdriver, just wedged it in there and pryed it open. The plastic tabs will break, just to give you fair warning. In theory it should help, I just didn't notice much of a difference.

Well I pulled it off and I don't want to get too excited....but I took her our for about 5 miles and noticed an increase in intake sound and a VERY slight increased responsiveness under WOT (probably negligible but none the less evident) . I did not notice this flap until I got my grill off...IMHO everyone needs to take this off if they have an after market intake!!!

No real power gain, but the intake is slightly louder under WOT from 25-60 mph!

Any "long term" updates on this? Leave it on? Take it off? Let's more crap in the box or no difference? Water issues??

I took my cover off left the tube to box part, One of first easy mods, I have done it to all my grand Cherokee I owned.

I have since switched to a BWoody...but no long term issues. Even in the rain there is not a noticeable increase in the amount of water on the intake/in the engine bay...but i live in Sunny CA so if you have really bad weather I may think about it...but very easy and seemingly effective mod

I keep thining if you all say there is really not a problem, then I may just pull that "flap" out, due a K&N drop in, then maybe find some silcone couplers and some smooth hose to connect from the box to the factory intake resonator thats bolted to the t-body. I would think that would give the most flow without the intake noise while keeping the IAT readings happy. All your input is appreciated:thumbsup:
