Never did it before. I don't want to throw any trouble codes.

robert palmer (joe) had a good thread on it but it's something along the lines of this
Cover PCM FCM with plastic bag ...
spray degreaser (simple green diluted 1:2) on engine bay when cool
let it soak for 5-10 minutes
then rinse off real well
then spray some armor all the white stuff all over engine bay generously
drive around block for 5-10 minutes
wipe off excess armor all
BAM you have one sexy looking engine bay

Here's this thread also! I recommend buying products from www.DetailedImage.com

Get a long-handled soft brush too...Detailed Image has them. They are great for helping that Simple Green do it's job in those tight spots. Don't forget the underside of the hood itself.
Also, be aware of where you're doing this. You'll be blasting grease and funk off...you may not want to do that over a nice concrete driveway or something.
I used an aerosol dressing product called CD-2 that I get at Autozone after everything has been degreased and dry. I'm not sure it's best stuff in the world, but I've gotten very good results.

So I don't have to cover the alternator nor remove the battery cables?

I never do. I don't point the hose at them and let loose. I used a light pressure on the hose...which is why I like to brush to help the cleaner along.
Some people pressure wash their junk...I've always been afraid of doing that.

Quick, short bursts with the trigger is the key.
Cover the intake filter and PCM and your distributor if you have an old ass Jeep :slapfight:

Going to give this a try today... Engine bay needs to match the rest of the jeep, atleast for a little bit.

From what i've seen WalMart seems like the best source for everything. Advanced and all those places seem to jack the prices way up on like micro fiber clothes and what not, wal mart was like half the price.
Not related, but especially for Oil, wal marts prices cant be touched from my experience

Didn't use any cleaning solvents, but gave it a spray and wipe down yesterday. looks good except for all the dust around the fuse boxes that were covered. No issues produced by the water though for sure.

Thank you all. Haven't tried it yet but I will right before I wash it. Anybody want to recommend a good and easy wax? I like Meguiar's.

I use Autoglym. It gives it a deep gloss or Meguairs #26

Ok. Sorry if I sound completely ignorant but can somebody show me a picture of you you are covering under the hood?
I know of the fuse box but where the hell is the PCM?? Is it one of the boxes that look like a fuse box?? Can somebody take a picture please? Lol.

Back left corner of the engine bay.. that rectangle box that has wires connected to it (behind the coolant overflow tank).

Thanks for all this good info! Got a question with this process: if I've used HVT to custom paint a few things (intake arm, strut bar) would I need to cover that stuff too or is the degreaser (simple green?) pretty easy on it? thanks!
HVT = VHT :)

I normally don't cover a thing regardless of the car/engine. Unless it was a land rover where I wouldn't touch it with a cloth!
If you have a CAI, cover the cone to be safe, just remember and remove it before starting the car to allow the engine to self dry or you'll end up needing a new filter...

Started fine Tony, gas pedal didn't do a thing though. Shut it off myself in terror ( I blasted the hell out of the engine with the PW) had all kinds of thoughts racing though my head. Saw the bag, ripped it off and tried again and it worked fine so I just laughed it off.

You could take the filter off and get one of those rubber caps with the hose clamp on them that go on pvc to seal it off from the water while your washing... costs like $5 tops..

I use regular palmolive (green stuff) and water. Since its a degreaser its able to get any oil residue and grime off with no problem. Then with the fine mist setting on my hose nozzel i lightly mist everything off and then wipe down and dry with a clean towel. Looks showroom clean everytime when im done.

I couldn't find the Meguiars Engine Cleaner at Advance Auto Parts. SO I might order it. And then I might buy some 303 for the panels and plastic. I want the Natural look.
