View Full Version : 2012 Jeep SRT8 compared to the 2011 WK2-lets end this now

Lets end this the "SRT rearend is the same as the 2011 non-SRT rearend" You folks are either blind or not even looking at both...cause there is more of a difference between these two rearends than there was between the 05-10 WK and the 06-10 Jeep SRT. Opend you eyes people and lose the WK tinted glasses....LOL. Its sucks to have the last gen. of something...I know...cause I do....but no reason to not be honest! SO....look at the bumper etc. and tell me the are the same except for the bottom louver!

Yep. The SRT8 bumper flares out near the black organic lower section. This is like one of those addictive "Can you find the differences between these two identical pictures?" bartop game machines that makes bank off of drunk fools... just like me.

I see it now. The SRT is more flared. ANd one more thing I might add is that the Rear Trunk Lid Spoiler on the SRT looks a bit more curvy on the sides compared to the reg WK2.
Post up side pics also!

I see the difference, its very obvious BUT the rear door is identical as are the lights. Rid the chrome piece and it'll be 10x better! Also I for one HATE the tail lights compared to the WK, but if an LED or some alternative comes I may like it. Maybe some tint? Anyway will guys be able to go with different/bigger exhaust tips? Looks like 4" may be stock and permanent without some cutting!

The rear is just not as aggressive looking as the wk srt8 IMHO...
Maybe it is the taillights like soontobesrt said... because that's my biggest dislike on the regular wk2 as well... looks to much like the european suv's. And it doesn't seem squat enough.
I do really like the front end. major  on that.

Scott, look at your post #10. In your avatar, its your red WK SRT rear end and then the new one. Which do you HONESTLY like more? I cant see where anyone would say the new one!? Just cant see it, its nice, BUT no WK rear end. LOL
Maybe we all have different expectations of what a rear should be. Seems some just want a distinct differentiation, but in my mind the central exhaust, lower bumper and rear fogs made the WK SRT rear as different as the lower diffuser does on the new WK2. Just my .02

Lets compare apples with apples. A red SRT8 with a red HEMI WK2 (hemi for the duel exhaust). Although, I think even though the front end of the SRT look like something that a ricer would put together on their Civics, I think that the front end of the SRT and a normal WK is different. However, in the rear, its only until you put the two cars side by side that you notice very small differences between the two. The difference is so small that if you saw an SRT on the roadway by itself that you would think that there was something "different" about WK but can not put your finger on what. Kind of like when Jeep changed the front end of Grand Cherokees in 2008 or if you saw a WK1 with the mopar lower trim package (I forgot the name of it). I'm sure that if there was a picture of an SRT with the tow package, the difference would be even smaller. Sorry, no sale.

if you think...honestly that the wk2 hemi REAR is identical to the wk2SRT REAR...you sir are blind....and its not just the middle black portion. Look at the bulging across the top of the bottom black portion. Then look how the fender flares continue into the rear bumper....
then theres the spoiler...TOTALLY different...not even close. Its an open and closed case! Its just like the 06-10 wkSRT vs. WK non-SRT rear bumper....

Of course the two Jeeps are similar, they're both new Grand Cherokees, just different trim levels. There wasn't much difference between the WK and the WK SRT8 either.

What I'm saying is that those are VERY small differences...... so small that if the SRT was on the road by itself (on the rear) that you would have a hard time telling if that is an SRT8 or a normal HEMI WK2. The 1st gen SRT WK looked totally different from the non-srt WKs. It all started with the center exhaust and ended with the ports under the rear fog lights (don't know what the true name of it is). Sorry but no sale.

yep, def looks like the new Grand Cherokees:rolleyes: but come on now, not much difference between the WK1 and WK1 Srt8? I bet to regular folks (non Jeep owners), they will be able to tell the difference much quicker from the wk1-wk1srt8 than the wk2-wk2srt8.

Being this is going to be my first Jeep, I think the above example looks closer to eachother than the WK2.
The only difference that I can see in the WK1 is the center exhaust and cutout for it.
Everythign above the bever panel is exactly the same (aside from badging).
At least the WK2's have a different rear spoiler.
Either way I like the whole SRT8 package. I am sure there may well be some slight differences fromt he car show one and the released one.

I agree with an earlier post that was interested in swapping the SRT grille into an Overland. While I like the Overland grille, the SRT grille is definitely a winner. Might be a very popular mod if it fits. It's on my potential mod list for my 2012 Overland

So back to the lip :D
Is this a "parts bin excerise" or are those genuine fender flares on there that differentiate from a regular Jeep?
Tough to tell from the pics - in the pics they look all one piece which would be cool but that would mean different quarters, rear doors and front fenders....

I agree with Marcus, and what others have said throughout the 2012 SRT8 debate. The WK SRT8 looks more aggressive in general, and particularly from the rear due to the center larger-diameter pipes, wider rubber, and aggressive angles.
In the rear, from a medium distance, the 2012 SRT8's lower black shaped skirt and stealth pipes just are not as aggressive differentiators as the WK SRT8 rear. Once you get up close, the flared painted tips look nice, but I'd personally like them to be more pronounced. I do like the tips in their traditional lateral locations for towing and rear hatch access without having to scald one's doo dads.
IMO, the 2012 SRT8 softens the WK2's more rounded lines even further, front and back. It's odd though, as WK2 has an inherently aggressive look in its own right. As Jeff Jeske said, the SEMA Street version was what I had envisioned and preferred, right or wrong.
I still want one, and understand the guys who favor the modern touches including the new wheelset. It's just personal preference.
Gotta see this beast live, and in action. Me thinks piloting one would close the deal quickly, so to speak. Even if I don't end up getting sucked into buying one, I'll still lust after it.

Yea, I've grown tired of the front end of my WK Limited and I never liked the back end of it. I never see any SRTs around here in Omaha anymore so maybe it does look nice and I just forgot. My Jeep still looks nice though. Maybe ugly is the wrong word for the WK SRT wheels; I just like my chrome wheels better; the WK SRT wheels are too thin and look like sharp knives is the best way I can describe it. Just my opinion.

Just for the record... pipes are the same 4" diameter ad WK. Rubber is actually wider at 295 all the way around. WK stock rears are only 285's.
Gotta see this beast live, and in action. Even if I don't end up getting sucked into buying one, I'll still lust after it.
Wait till these are out in all colors and people fine tune the looks with tints and other aftermarket goodies!

^My bad, thanks QO. I've likely been drooling over your 5 inch tips, harry balz wider meat, and the aesthetcs of the center pipes (wait, that doesn't sound right). That, or the wk2 rear skirt sits flush and similar color to the new gen pipes and are a bit more wallflower.
Agree with the notion that the new rigs will get tricked out and just kill it when the Street Jeep crowd gets done. In earlier threads, I put forth my list like others including: moving the front fogs and led's down lower off the bumper, 22" Sema street wheels, body color lower skirts front and rear, extended pipes, and dechrome (Scott aka Ur5oslow has my rear chrome strip in painting now). Guess this is a sign of my inability to resist this beast sight unseen. Haven't yet considered under hood. Crap.

As there is now a worldwide market for them, the mods will be soon and plenty.
I hope someone makes a great LED replacement taillight assemnbly that looks tech.
I do not know how Jeep did not think to add LED for all lighting.
This will be my first mod to replace everything with LED.

You hit the nail on the head right there... Same exact reason I want to ditch my "jalopy" (as I now call it) Charger SRT8 (2006). It just looks dated. There's nothing wrong with it, it is just time for something newer (some people aren't like that and that's fine!)
I totally HATE the new Chargers (2011), OMG :motx: and I need something higher off the ground what with going on lots of dirt roads around these parts. Plus 5 years is already WAY TOO LONG to own to the same vehicle (for me at least). :D And let's face it, what is better (for the buck) than the SRT lineups?? Right?? M5?? X5M?? PUHH-LEASE!! So sticking with the SRT family is a GREAT setup and it is only getting better each year. That is why I'm merrily waiting for my new 2012 SRT WK8!! :D
As for the LED taillights, I too hope they add those. I saw LEDs on the front and back of a Kia MicroSUV yesterday. Don't tell me these LED things are getting commoditized just as Jeep is finally getting some?? :D

Well he doesn't live "next door" but he lives in my vicinity yes. I see his rig about once a week or so... Most folks around here know he moved here recently but he hasn't made friends with too many folks out here just yet... He eats at my fave mexican joint (I know the owners and they see him all the time too) and my wife works out at the same gym as him -- err rather she DID, that was before the gym manager tried to introduce him to her father, who's a pastor. That was the end of Jesse at that gym... :( And yes, Kat Von D has been out here quite a bit, but there hasn't been a Kat spotting in a while, so not sure what's up. I think she still lives in LA and just comes out here to visit occasionally. I know she has been travelling a lot promoting her book and shows and stuff too..
