I just came from my local Jeep dealership where I took a few closeups of the colors that are going to be available on the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 (as seen on the 2011 Compass). I did the best that I could with an iPhone camera. Here you go!
From left to right it's deep cherry red crystal pearl, brilliant black crystal pearl, bright silver metallic, and mineral gray metallic

I've gotta say... that mineral gray metallic absolutely SHIMMERS in the sunlight! You can even see how it glows and sparkles more than the other colors in the pictures.

Great photos!! I love the MG and the black, but this time I am going back to silver. Looks like there won't be a lot of silver ones on the road based on the responses.

I'm really digging that grey. Hate the sliver..... it seamed like that showed more dirt on my road than my black

The main reason I choose silver was for the contrast....I think the piano black accents will really pop in silver.....plus all the curves of the car shows up better as well.

I'm interested to see how the wheels work with the gray / silver paint since the wheels are no longer chrome (which I consider to be universal in going with any color). The wheels will take on more of a gray / silver color look. I'm wondering if they'll go well with the silver or gray paint, be too "matchy matchy", or have the look of the wheels trying to match the paint but appear to be off a touch. We already know that the wheels look great with the cherry, and can reasonably assume that they'll look great with the black.

The more I look at it, the more I don't like it. Somebody has to do some serious mods *cough* Scott *cough* in order to make it look decent.
Maybe it's the ugly wheels.

Are you actually adding value here? Why do we care you don't like it? Go somewhere else and post something helpful or positive or ask a valid question.
There's absolutely no need to come into this thread and post your hate.

I don't know but I wish they'd take a look at a Porsche and learn what paint on a car should look like. These Grand Cherokees always have orange peel, some worse than others and it doesn't look good.

thats Sterlin Heights where they build the 200....not JNAP where they build the GC. JNAP does have a brand new paint facility though....

i think the lighter colour (read: everything except black) looks much better, it highlights the shape better and the contrasting bits such as hood vents etc stand out much more.
IMO, black always hides the shape of cars, colours are my preference.
I really wish they did a non metallic "dog dick red" . That, with a set of black 22" or 24' forged wheels, a bit more low, some tint, and it would look intense :)

I've been in between colors for weeks and I think I'm finally settled. My wife suggested buying two (she's been over my shoulder during my wk2 srt8 research). I'm planning on ordering a mineral gray and a black one this week. Thanks for the pictures!

why? what did I miss?
they are only making 1500 to start with, supposedly another 1500 the rest of the model year (my guess is the turn of the CY thru May?). There are approx. 2400 dealers across the USA (and I know there are roughly 250 alone in a 300 mile radius of MD/DE border, I found this searching Overlands 3 months ago). Orders have been open for 3 weeks almost. Word is starting to get out faster and faster. People's orders are changing to odd statuses and many stories are popping up of dealers playing games now with pricing and/or build priority.
Even if 400 of the biggest dealers in the USA get allocated 2, that only leaves 700 units for the remaining 2000 dealerships. By all means, give it a try, but do not be surprised if you are asked to pay a markup, a dealer has no allocation left, or there is only one allocation left at a dealer. Also, I believe Milous said the engine plant is the limiting factor on the production, it's not a case of "we'll just make more if we have the demand."

Silly question, I'm in Australia where borrowing expenses ae very different to the US of A.
But why, when the interest rates are so very low there, would anyone want to tie up cash in the purchase of a depreciating asset? Surely that money could be better invested elsewhere?

I personally love it . Black only tho
Marlin
06-26-2011, 11:33 PM
Because even with low interest rates on both my mortgage and student loans, the amount I'm paying each month for these are enough that I don't want to add another monthly payment. And interest rates, even on CDs where I have most of it, are still not good. If I can get an auto loan for 1.9% or maybe even 2.9% than I might do that, but if it's 3.9% which seems likely then it's not worth it.
Ok thanks!
Geesh you blokes have it good over there! We pay between 7.5 and 12.5% p/a depending on the method of the loan!
AND our JGC SRT8 will be between $90 and $105k (USD$99k - USD$115k)! :(

Marlin,
I would think because they are in either of 2 situations:
They don't have the know how or knowledge to get a return above and beyond the % interest they will be charged.
Or
They have so much money, that they need to spend it or face losing it to Federal or State taxes.
What %'s are you making on regular 5 year term investments?

:) we could probably start an entire new thread on this discussion.
A simple cash term deposit will net you somewhere around 4.5 to 5%, and more aggressive managed funds typically around 7% (a far cry from the 11%+ I was getting prior to the GFC sadly).

Which begs the question: Powdercoat it or Paint it?
Either way I think you gotta Prime it, right? (It's faux Chromed?)
Could one do this himself and still get that smooth finish, or does spray paint screw it up so bad you need 2000 grit sandpaper to smooth it out when you're done??
I *might* just get it powdercoated when I get my wheels done... :D

its chromed plastic.....plastic cant be powdercoated. Just have it painted by a pro....its too nice of a vehicle to just paint yourself
