My Blown Strut,changed over weekend.

Figured i'd post a few pix of my weekend project. Swapped out a blown strut with one I got sent from Scott, aka "The Man". :thumbsup:

How I knew it was blown, all the oil dripping from it. That and the front end acted like a boat on waves going up and down over bumps.

Moved the coolant take from the top of the strut.

Dropped the control arms from the jack and the strut dropped down.

Had the brake caliper hung at first from the upper control arm with one set of zip ties, only to have them break when I wacked the upper ball joint out with a hammer and the caliper hit the dam ground. Not sure how but the brake line didnt snap on me. Lucky.

The blown strut on the right, doesnt even go up anymore when pushed down. I hate when that happens.:lol:

It has no issues at all. Im kinda surprised too, with it having all that extra load and stress on it. But I realized with these eibachs I have to take it much easier over bumps now. I blew the strut a week after having them installed.

Oh, and when I did the eibach install I had the same thing happen, the brake caliper fell when I wacked the upper ball joint out of the control arm and the whole spindle assembly moved out, snapping the metal wire i used to tie up the caliper with. Thats why I said, if anyone does this, make sure to use something strong to tie the caliper to the upper control arm or it might fall down and maybe snap the brake line. Not good, I got sooo lucky.

If you leave the nut on the upper ball joint,on a few threads it holds the lower assembly from dropping. I did my spring swap-over this way and didn't have to remove the caliper at all.

Really, I had to push the upper control arm all the way up just for clearance to get the assembly out. I couldnt imagine not doing it the way I did it, dropping the drive axle all the way down.

I didnt even cut the bump stops in the rear yet, so it hardly even travels back there as it is. And I drive like a grandmother now so hopefully i wont blow anymore shocks. lol.

Sorry,i should have clarified. I left the nut on to keep the lower arm from falling freely. Once loose,i supported the lower arm with a jack,removed the nut completely and let the lower arm drop with the jack.

Ohh, lol. I was going to say, what did you compress the springs down by hand or something to get the asembly out. It just seems to make it out, was afraid of damaging the rubber boot for the bearings a few times.

And when I recently did the eibachs then this strut I ended up having to touch up the painted caliper, from all the banging around had some nice chips in the paint. Good thing with the dulpicolor brush on kit there is enough paint in that little can to do 10 calipers it seems.
