hah its just the way they edited the video scott! you get used to seeing the jeep at the end of the line, then its just ...uhhhh hey where did the jeep go?!?!? :p

Scottina06
07-15-2011, 01:04 PM
yeah I knew what you meant...but Id guess they keep the Jeep out of the corner drifts becasue it cant really do it without being on a loose surface. It just corners right thru the curve....

SRTDogg

So what happens if you push it to the max trying to drift it?? ESP kicks on?? What happens if you disable ESP what then?? :D

With all due respect, take the traction controls off and drive hard enough, anything will 4 wheel drift especially on a track. :D

well yeah....lol....drift right through the corner and into the ditch......LOL

On snow, if you want to let 'er drift and go then Sport mode is a must, otherwise the ESP does kick in along with slower throttle and braking per SRTDogg's comment above.

The WK2 Hemi feels like it would roll instead of drift on dry pavement, but haven't necessarily pushed it hard enough to get up on two wheels, yet. Heh.

Dang if this beast doesn't drift or slide in a corner, how do you know when you're at the limit? At least with a regular RWD car I can feel how drifted and how much traction I have at a moment's notice... If the Jeep just flips that is not cool..

Never driven one, but I can guarantee you it wont flip if driven hard in a corner. Unless you do hit a ditch....
Tire grip will be lost hence the cool drifting....

Didn't someone say when they debuted it back in the spring about "knowing a guy"...

Looks so much better in action then in still shots of it. Some of the videos make the tires look like they have tall side walls. Love the silver!!!

Bad is right and at that MSRP price I am in REAL trouble. Wifey saw a pic of the Mineral Grey in the other thread and said "wow, that is a good looking jeep". Once she sees one in person she will probably be begging to trade her Overland in.

I almost think a 21" wheel would be the tits for this thing! The 20s were perfect on the WK SRT but this thing seems to have more gap under the fender maybe its just the fat Pirellis. I think a custom set of 21's with a 35/40 x 21 tire would be nicer, little less sidewall but still stiff!

SRTDogg
07-16-2011, 03:26 PM
Well it may have to be something like Factory Replica 21s in order to get 21s... Who else makes them?

LOL @ SRT WK2 no drift. The best 6.4 in the video though. It's grown on me a lot.

I'll take one in silver. That color 'widens' the look of the front end of this thing.

That and also get me the software so I can disable power to my front wheels (ad hoc temporarily of course). :D

Didn't one of the reviews say up to 100% of power in track mode could go to back wheels? So there is your disable, and your ten mile wide smile not to mention the price hike. Im thinking how my face would hurt if my current beast could do that!

Scottina06
07-17-2011, 12:51 PM
yeah...I dont think that Jeep was altered just to do a burnout....

QuickOne
07-17-2011, 01:00 PM
In the article about the burnout, they say in track mode, 100% of the power can go to one wheel...But they said, therefore, using the same software power can be transferred to both rear wheels.
I'm pretty sure they have a starscan that can just program stuff that we never will be able to. :(
But for $61K, that starscan should be in the glove box and a new set of tires in the rear just for fun! :D
Fresh back from the SRT launch at Willow Springs Raceway there are several on track videos with both driver and car perspectives to cut and share with enthusiasts and Mopar fans alike. But for now I wanted to share this video of a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 with some very special software loaded into the ECU...notice the lack of power being channeled to the front wheels

I'm thinking about like a 1/4 mile launch... It probably delivers near (if not) 100% power to the wheels on a launch. Like when the vehicle is going 0mph and throttle is immediately pushed to 100%. It would want of course to switch back to 80/20 and eventually 50/50 as the vehicle gets traction and the dynamics of the body on top of the chassis begin to re-adjust.

Anyways, we always think about the last part but not enough about that first part. Do you think it actually puts 100% to the rear wheels then in that scenario (launch)?

If so, it might be possible to tap the brakes at the same time and get it to break the traction. You'd have to put it on Track mode to turn off ESP but that is no problem. :)

I just wonder, that would be sweet if we could do burnouts with the stock ECM programming. If so, it's like a Track mode feature secretly MADE for the drag strips - and for showing off of course.. :D

My thoughts exactly, watch the beginning of the vid, he works to get the burnout going, once he has it going the vehicles attitude shows no signs of fighting it like at first.

SRTDogg
07-17-2011, 01:35 PM
It sounds like it shifted into 2nd actually. I wonder if he did this manually in Track mode - start with brakes on to get it going and then let them off and run with it. Brake stand.. Maybe it will work? (Or maybe he has some crazy custom ECM or maybe he pulled some fuse?) :D

BostonDMD
07-17-2011, 02:01 PM
Did anyone notice the brake lights be on thru the video?
Obviously a brake stand, software mod. probably not, but I can think of better ways to burn rubber......:)

SRTDogg
07-17-2011, 02:04 PM
Yeah it looks like the brakes stay on the whole time. I wonder if this is just how the ECM works or if this is a mod to it. I say that because front wheels continue to show no power. I would be surprised if in a braking situation Jeep removes power to the front wheels, but perhaps I'm wrong and that is how this would work (stock with no software mods).. ??

QuickOne
07-17-2011, 02:09 PM
Did anyone read the comments by the guy who filmed it? The SRT engineers decided to goof off a bit and they made an adjustment with some "Special" Software. This is not and will be something you can do by turning the dial to TRACK and touch the brakes.

I already sent them a tweet asking them to hook me up at my SRTTE.. :D I'm sure they won't.. :(

Brian- That is what my thoughts were. You can see him at the beginning jam the brakes then after that the whole time he is just feathering and burning. Sounds insane doing it too. The way our ESP should have been from the start.

Kudos boys, you jack the price on us then feed us full of badass videos leaked here and there. I gotta say, that is one badass ride. Ill still own two, but at $8-10k more I might have to wait for the depreciation down payment to save up a bit.
