I havent posted in a while. Between work and detailing, I cant relax.
The concourse is Saturday and Sunday in Fairfield. then off to another show, Festa de Ferrari on Oct 4th. The owner is looking to get this or one of his others into Pebble Beach next year.
Some old school fun:

It was a difficult correction.
24 man hours in polishing, 12 man hours in finishing.

Wow! That F40 looks amazing.
Congrats on the awesome job you did on it.
How many total hours you put into it from start to finish?
Is that the rear of a Lambo SUV I see on the last pic?
Someday I wish I could work on an exotic too...
Justin, send me one of those my way one of these days if you can :D.
Good luck to you and the owner at the upcoming shows. I'm sure it'll win .

Thanks Mario.
It didnt eat up too much time, about 36 man hours of labor. This has many crevices where a rotary wont fit in requiring hand polishing. We didnt use any water on any part of the car.
The key was removing 18 years of oxidation and getting it as close to the patina it left Marinello with back in 1991.

F40..... absolutely a massive favourite of mine. Unfortunately I've only seen two, one at a motor show (a standout for me sitting beside a 288GTO, F50, and Enzo :)), and the other was all the way back in 1992 when a guy racing his at Targa Tasmania hung his out of a telephone pole after a big crash. That car was send back to Ferrari and repaired.

The car was completely defect and swirl free after 105. It was LSP ready at that point. Single stage paint yields dramatic results with aggressive abrasives.
As its a special car, we spent a few hours jeweling it with Menzerna 85 and black pads on a rotary. Just a finishing touch. Jeweling really does make a slight difference in reflectivity. I'd only recommend to do it on your own collector type car, or for someone who is willing to pay you to do it on their car
We found the Ice product in the service area and thought the photo would agitate the OCD sufferers over at Autopia! The Ice product did not touch the car.
I can make the following statements after this season:
Ill most likely never use a Porter Cable again or anything other than my daily drivers to apply Optimum Poli-Seal.
Optimum products provide the slickest finish I have felt
Zaino Z5pro is still the durability king of synthetics
Meguiars M105 and M205, the non-diminishing formulas, will be my polishes for years to come. They just work.
Leatherique Prestine Clean is the best leather cleaner I have used to date.
In my eyes, after 12 hours, Swissvax Mystery offers the best appearance on a properly polished surface on the most variety of colors.
Tire dressing is off the menu. Im into the natural look.

Sweet job. I gotta do mine. Now that the temps will start falling here in Fla. it's time for a claying, bust out my Cyclo, and get to cleaning it up!
I did see my drool car in the background. A nice Red Shiney SEXY 599GTB!!

so you're saying you will never use the pc again on anything other than your daily driver? please elaborate.
Optimum products provide the slickest finish I have felt
which ones?
Zaino Z5pro is still the durability king of synthetics
have you tried #21 from meguiars?

I notice a difference in the end result vs. time with the rotary. PC is good for some, I just always put it down and jump back on the rotary. So, for me, its a Makita world.
Optimum - Poli-Seal, Opti-Seal, OID, very slick feeling post application.
yes, I have used 21, but not as extensively as Z5pro. No comment on it.

thanks man! i have heard a lot of stuff about opti-seal wasn't sure if it was good or just hype or if it even lasts a long time.

09-11-2009, 11:43 AM
thanks bro. I hear so many things about different products. You really have to get sample and try them yourself. Lol......I could spend $500 a month on detailing supplies....but that would be silly for just two vehicles. But now someone like you who does work for others...it makes sense.
Awesome work by the way!

Thats I work on other peoples cars, to buy more products!
Im sure Ice is good. I just didnt want to risk experimenting with a new peoduct on an irreplaceable $600k car!

hehe def not dude!!! i wouldnt even have ICE in the same warehouse as those cars!!!
are you using opti-seal as your sealant or z5pro?

09-11-2009, 08:27 PM
on that car it was Zymol Ital.
For my cars its Opti-Seal topped with Swissvax Mystery.

hahaha well its an old wax by meguiars that this lady got her hands on. she must have like 400 cans some how. it isn't sold in the US anymore and she was selling them on ebay for next to nothing!!!
tons of people bought it and i did too:) here is a pic
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l77/afkimel/meguiars16-1.jpg
Some of the older Meguiarites, however, still hold a torch for the wax that was stolen from them--M16. They fondly remember the all-day Saturday sessions where they all so carefully, following instructions passed down from father-to-son over many generations, applied a very, very thin coat of #16 to their jalopies. And so they arrange to have #16 clandestinely smuggled into the States from that foreign land to the north. For this dangerous work they have enlisted a number of courageous Megs runners, who brave Mounties, customs agents, and wax security forces to accomplish their most worthy goal. But it must be stated clearly and unambiguously, NXT represents the bright future of Meguiars. There will be no return to the good ole days of hard paste waxes.
sorry for the thread jack justin

with all the great Carnuabas out there why would you buy 20 yr old paste wax? LOL
B.P.O.D
09-16-2009, 09:34 AM
bc its that good!!! there is a reason this is the most talked about paste wax on the net right now... check any detailing forum this has like 20 pages worth of talk on every one!
also - its not available in the US anymore:(
