I know this has been discussed over and over again but i need a quick answer. What is the best offset for WK wheels, keeping stock size tires, W/O the wheels and tires sticking out. Basically what do i want for an aftermarket wheels but keeping stock specs.
The wheel i am looking at offers -15, +25, +10

+30 and up......

So the +25 will keep the wheels in the best?

Their site labels them as the direct replacement for the wk/xk with the +25. i will call them and ask if they will stick out at all with stock tires. I hope it is not much if they do.

thye will stick out at +25....not sure how much. Really depends on the type/design of the wheel. Any 5x127 or 5x5 wheel will fit the wk as long as it clears the calipers.....but what most companies dont do is test their wheels on each vehicle to see whether it sticks out or sunken in too much. The SDRt wheels for example are +35 and +50. So it also varies a little on different widths.

I wouldn't go any lower than 30mm for an offset....the SRT's offset of 34.75 equals perfect flushness with the fender....

Well, the +25 is the best i can get, i have looked at pics and they all seem to be within the fenders and most of them have larger tires and a lift. So i dont think it will be too much of an issue. I just dont want a ghetto stance. I have some more research to do but i think i will try the +25s.

What wheels are you going with Kyle? I thought you were gonna do the machined 18's??

Ok fine. I was not going to post them until i have them in a few months because i asked before and i know alot of people dont like them on the wk because they are not blingy enough, But I dont care If you dont like them, Ive wanted a set for years.
AEV Pintler Wheels. 17"x8.5" +25 offset, 5.3" BS. silver finish (could get argent gray but i dont think it will look right)
245/65/17 Nitto Terra Grappler All Terrain tires. http://www.nittotire.com/#index.tire.terragrappler
I am not going to lift my jeep or lower it. But i live in NH, we get some Intense winters and there are alot of Country roads that i drive that i want to have a good All terrain tire. But i dont want BFG ATs. I am basically going for the stock 4x4 ability use but still the on road manners, so bilsteins and srt sways are on next years list.
I spent a bit of time editing a pic of my jeep with the wheels and i am 100% convinced that they are what i want.

I like those wheels....just wish they were bigger....LOL!(for me)
NHWK05
09-10-2009, 06:08 PM
Lol, I agree, if they had different sizes that would be nice. The other reason i dont want to go bigger then 17s is tire cost. I can get a hell of a deal on 245/65/17s from a local shop on the nitto tires. Once i go up to 18 it sky rockets.

I thought you'd have something a little more creative than that! I was thinking about these, but had no clue about the Sahara wheels.

Yea, they are not cheap. And i am going for 5 wheels and tires so i can swap them in at rotations.

Do you think that the spare will fit under the Jeep? You do want 245's so I don't see why not.
NHWK05
09-11-2009, 07:06 AM
Yea it will fit fine, But 2 things.
1 i will have an srt style exhaust in 2 weeks so no room.
2 No chance in hell will i ever put a $200 rim under my jeep with road salts and such. The spare will live in the garage locally and if i go on a long trip it will go in the back.

Thanks, I am 100% sure i want these wheels now. A guy on JF found this pic of them with stock tires on a stock wk.
Now i need to decide. Silver like my pic or Argent gray?

Get the silver Kyle so I can get the grey when the time comes.. are those the stock Fortera tires on that WK?
NHWK05
09-12-2009, 10:16 AM
Yes they are 245/65/17 GY forteras.
I will prolly get the silver ones but i am gonna play with photo shop now and try on the Argent ones.

I really want Argent. But i may be able to get a deal on a silver set in trade for my JK 18" wheels. So if he wants them i will get a silver set. If not i am going argent.

I like the Argent Gray as well.
Just to complete the topic of wheel offset, you need to be aware of several dimensions when seeing if a wheel will fit:
Diameter of wheel
Width of wheel
Offset of wheel
(and bolt pattern and centerbore of course)
Since Offset is measured from the centerline of the wheel, the overall position/clearance of the wheel will depend on the width of the wheel. A positive offset means the hub mounting surface of the wheel is outboard of the wheel centerline when viewed. Here's a diagram:
http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheels/tech/offset.gif
taken from tirerack.com. This page may explain positive/negative offset a little more clearly:
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/techpage.jsp?techid=101
Here's a Wheel Offset Calculator (with some better images as well):
http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/WheelOffsetCalc.html
If you go with a wider wheel, and the same offset as stock, the wheel will be closer to the strut/spring by the half the difference in the wheel widths. Also, you could lose steering travel if the wheel is so wide that it contacts the tie-rod before the steering lock.
Hope this helps...

I posted a more detailed reply before this, but apparently it needs to be approved by the moderator....There are some more links and descriptions in that post. If it doesn't show up, let me know and I'll try to re-post.
Here's another calculator that includes tire sizing:

What is our stock offset for 17x7" wheels?

ok dumb question... does offset = backspace? whats the difference?
also, whats the difference between the SRT and the stock rim backspace? i.e. how much more backspace does the SRT rim have?
EDIT:
actually i think i figured this out.... the 35 offset of the SRT looks to be around 3 to 3.5" backspace... am i right?

offset is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. Theres negative and positive offsets. They are usually measured in mm.
back spacing is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the inside lip of the wheel and is measured in inches
the SRT wheels are +34.5 and +50....no idea on the stock 17's and 18's

Anyone have photos and/or experience with 20x9 at 30mm? Based on SRT numbers, they'll stick out 3/8". Not sure if that's a deal-killer or not.
