I just watched this video for the first time...and I'm amazed. #1 by the fact that this jeep has been designed FOR THE TRACK. The truck clearly can pull its weight through the corners properly and doesn't necessarily have to go fast in a straight line. #2 So many people seem to be focusing on the fact that the truck doesn't run 11s in the 1/4 mile stock! The engineer clearly says that the new challenger MAY be faster GIVEN THE PROPER LAUNCH but the jeep will consistently be king. So what if it added 500 lbs...we'll have a better crafted vehicle than the WK1 (supposedly) with more advanced technology (eLSD FTW). So what it's been "estimated" at a 4.8s 0-60...its still faster than most things you'll encounter on the road. I could have had a 2010 at any time...but I chose to get the next-gen model because it truly is the next step for the SRT Jeep. Personally...I cant wait to get my hands on my 2012!

Scott, if you use the word "awesome" one more time to describe vids, I'm gonna..........

P.S. If I do end up buying mine. I'm supercharging the damn thing as soon as tuning and an SC setup are available! I'm not F-ing around.....

If you get all of the options that is like 500lbs extra. So much for a close race then! :(

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NO ONE CAUGHT THE COMMENTS ABOUT THE JEEP SRT8 vs. THE CHALLENGER SRT8 IN THE 1/4 MILE AND 0-60......watch and listen folks

I heard them..... didn't feel the need to dribble on about them though.

Bit of a mute subject for me, we don't get the Chally here.... only the 300C

I posted this video about 3 days ago and no one caught it then either....lol

Everyone knows the challenger has been in the wild doing less than a 13 second 1/4 mile right? like 12.5????? and the jeep can keep up wit it consistently and bbeat it most of the time......

They were talking 0-60 not 1/4 mile.

And what do you think the 2006-10 was built for? I run mine at the track all the time. Most will never go to one anyway, it's like off roading in any other SUV

haha, you're 100% correct, excuse me, I'm posting while working.

FYI, moot to us Aussies is a lady's vagina. You know, it's a slightly nicer way of saying cunt, but will still get you slapped.

And we spell the round rubber things tyres, not tires, but I always try and accomodate US spelling.

And sorry but if it beats the Challenger 0-60 it will likely also beat it (by a similar margin) in the 1/4 mile. I say this because at higher speeds the Jeep's weight is less of an issue, once momentum kicks in. The AWD being on for those 12 seconds ("or less..." :)) is surely going to help make up the difference.. :D

Why is the 1/4 mile number so important to you guys?
Is it because you can race from stoplight to stoplight or is there another reason?

Nice to see the SRT GC do something other than GO STRAIGHT.

I like the part at 3:40

HONESTLY!!! (yes caps) Who cares if the Jeep is faster than the WK SRT8 or the Chally or whatever???? We are talking tenths of a second.

And dont give me the crap about tenths matter because 90% of owners DO NOT and WILL NOT race their trucks. They just want to be street kings lol (Keanu Reeves)

As anyone SHOULD KNOW there will ALWAYS be a faster "something" out there for less or more $! The point or reason to buy the SRT8 Jeep is more about the WHOLE PACKAGE! If you need to be "the" street king, go get a Hyabussa or Twin Turbo Ford GT!

I just cant get over people hating on its identical performance! God forbid it didnt get a whole second faster in the 1/4 and 0-60 under 4??? LOL like really people. They didn't make this thing to be the fastest thing on the street sheeesshh! They could have, sure, they could have just cancelled the SRT8 and made the Viper ACR X :) Get that, then youd have the fastest thing on the street. This Jeep will devour 90% of anything you encounter. With some mods maybe more like 95%!

I seriously think some people have lost their sanity when it comes to the SRT8s criticism!

If you disagree, move over to a poorer country in Africa/Europe and ride around in an Isuzu or Yugo or even a Fiat ;) something tiny and crappy and then come back. I think you're mindset and appreciation for what it is will be changed :)

yeah anthony...I think some have missed the point that its not all about 0-60 an straight line performance anymore...BUT...those that want straightline, 1/4 mile performance can still have that. This is a better...ALL AROUND....vehicle than the 1st gen. Fact

No one can realistically expect every new model released to be faster than the last. If they were, eventually we'd be expecting the new SRT to do 0-60 in ZERO.

I think over the past decade or so we've been spoiled with the increase in performance of all vehicles, hell, 10 years ago who would have thought you'd be able to buy an SUV with this kind or performance, for this kind of money?!

Additionally, I think we may have passed the horsepower peak, the days of Audi and others selling 600hp + saloon cars are numbered. Fast and efficient is where the future is. Although this SRT is far from efficient, I think they've taken measurable steps towards it.

I for one would gladly sacrifice a couple of tenths here and there for a better rounded drive, and more refinement.

Why is the 1/4 mile number so important to you guys?
Is it because you can race from stoplight to stoplight or is there another reason?

It's because we race the quarter mile, of course. Eleanor Roosevelt said it best "America is all about speed. Hot, nasty speed!" the quarter mile track and a left turn circle track are America's bread and butter in automotive sports. So let's take those of us who beat the piss out of our rigs at the track. I'd rather start out with a stock vehicle running sub 13 second passes versus + 13 second passes as I'm that much closer to 11's (my own personal benchmark) thus making my pursuit in HP and speed one with a leg up so to speak.
Some of us could imagine doing nothing else than actually using these rigs for what SRT meant them to be used for. Maybe this though would answer your question best. Do you know what SRT stands for? If you do then you answered your own question.
