Hi all -- been busy the past few weeks but I did have some time last weekend to try out something fun. I painted my coil covers HEMI Orange.
I made a visit to my local autoparts store and purchased HEMI Orange engine paint, Semi-Gloss Black paint, a Scotch Brite pad, some blue painter's tape and set to work.
Step 1 was to prep them for painting so I sanded down the plastic coil covers -- just to remove any spurs around the edges and ensure there was a good rough surface for the paint. Then I washed them (soap & water) and let dry.
Step 2 was to paint them HEMI orange. Simple. Dried in about 30 minutes but I let them sit for a day.
Step 3 was to mask off the HEMI logo on each cover. This took some time (about an hour) and I thought I did an OK job.
Step 4 was to apply the Black Semi-Gloss for the HEMI lettering.
I did 2 coats of each color at each step about 5 minutes apart and got a nice even distribution. I found out later when I peeled off the painters tape that I wasn't perfect with the lettering though but for my first attempt, I was fairly happy with it. It definitely has the effect I wanted.
