just got the wiring harnesses from Lippy, thanks bro!
ok, they work, 6 OHM resistor, LED bulbs, stock housing.
They work with brakes on, blinkers (no brakes), blinkers (brakes)
With headlights on, Brakes and blinkers work... BUT... at rest, the driver's side one is off... wtf could that be? its not a fuse right?

where did you put the leds in? headlights? tail lights?

tail lights

if i have to drive it tonight with one tail light not working.. ima feel ghetto

do you have the correct bulbs
you MUST have the S_RK bulbs or you blow the parking fuse.
__________________________________________________ ___
from ekaz on the red site. early models MAY be different, this is for 07+ and UP
LED replacement bulbs will work in tail lights with or without rear fog harness
You need the S_RK bulbs (see v-leds )
If NO rear fog harness
Connect 6ohm resistor to black and outer white wire of OEM harness
if YES rear fog harness
Connect 3ohm resistor to black and outer white wire of OEM harness.

I'm using these...

how could one blow but not the other?

those look to be correct bulbs.
you have them wireed EXACTLY as EKAZ explains with the correct resistor? for your setup from lips?

ok.... new intel...
its blowing fuses... first it blew the driver's, then the pass, replaced them to see if the bulbs were in wrong... then it blew the passenger but not the driver....
am i going insane?
there are three fuses in a row in the fuse box. the first blows and ONLY the driver's goes out, and ONLY then the headlights are on without parking or blinking. The third does it for the passenger.
are these really only dedicated to running the lights when the headlights are on?
also checked for shorts, lips' stuff is air tight, nothing would be able to ground out.
edit: haha apparently the fuses i blew include the airbag one..... sigh

ok now im kinda gettin pissed...
somehow it set off my airbag sensor, so that warning light is on, and i dunno how to handle that.
I replaced the bulbs with the stock ones and pulled the harnesses..... too bad because those LED's looked so sick
robpp
09-15-2009, 04:30 PM
you used a fuse called spare... surprise, its not a spare. its the airbag sensor...........
Relwarc
09-15-2009, 04:34 PM
.... really? or are you kidding?.... i feel dumb and.... bewildered...
side note:
may be coincidence, but one bulb burned out the driver's fuse, and the other didnt do it to the passenger's... switched bulbs, opposite problem. could the BULB be killing fuses?
robpp
09-15-2009, 04:48 PM
im dead serious about the fuses. i did it. as most will once.................
if you have them wired exactly like ekaz, i dont know what the problem is. LEDs are only one way . so when you wire it like his, and one bulb doesnt come on, try pulling it out and reversing the bulb.
and you should be disconnecting the battery every thime you touch something. as you found out things are rather sensitive.

yeah... i forget this thing is from 2007, not the early 90's...
i cant believe you werent kidding man... i replaced them... who's HORRIBLE idea of a joke was that??? hahaha
i guess i'll spend a few hours with it when i get a chance.... kinda bummed... they looked SO good.. so crisp...

Okay, just got up to speed. Sorry for your problems. It sounds like the bulb. It is following the problem from side to side when you switch the bulb? Have you tried swapping the harness I made for you side to side?
Don't worry man, we'll get it figured out. Just ask Ekaz!

Let me clarify for Relwarc. I made him a harness, but it's not a rear fog harness. It is just a short harness that has the resistor already wired into it so that he would have a plug-n-play setup using LED bulbs in stock tails.
Therefore, using that exact post you quoted earlier from the red site Rob, I used 6-ohm resistors and wired them across the high element of the brake bulb.
I dunno what each lead of the S_RK bulbs do, but maybe if you put them in backwards, they blow the fuses. I would say try turning the bulbs around. I would start with whichever one popped a fuse first.
This problem is strange, but we'll figure it out, just like we did with Ekaz.

Jason on the job. sorry I was confused about what his harness did.
Relwarc, maybe a diagram of where you are at with it all might help.
i agree with jason that this can be fixed.

ok here's the deal, and thanks for the input lips!
I switched the harnesses, and the bulbs. the only common variable is one of the bulbs.
bulbs in backwards don't work at all, so thats not a problem. One of the bulbs seems to blow the fuse whenever the jeep tries to put it in the dim but lit stage. The only time is does that is when the headlights are on, and i'm not braking. I'm going to E-mail V-LED's and see if i can return them for another set.
The harnesses from Lips are TOP knotch, they are amazing.
Will follow up with a full install write up when i get the new bulbs.

Sorry about your luck with the bulbs. Make sure you post your findings in this thread when you get new bulbs from V-LED's so we know if it was indeed the bulb or not. I will stay subscribed to this thread to monitor any of your findings.
Push on v-leds. I complained when I had a bad bulb and they upgraded me to express shipping for free.

Side questions that may be helpful to others when doing this project.
There was a warning about the resistors... that they get hot...
HOLYSHIT UNDER STATEMENT
They get insanely hot... what happens when they get wet in the rain? these bitches are going to crack, melt something, or cause condensation, no?
I'm thinking of using 4 24 ohm resistors in parallel.... try to cool them bitches down.
any input?

Don't be skeered.
That's why they have that fancy gold-anodized heat sink on them. If some water gets up on there, it's not gonna do anything. A resistor is a passive device, as long as it doesn't melt, it will function.
And a better route would be to wire two 3-ohm in series. This would effectively cut your heat load in half, AND they are readily available from V-LED's. They also have the heat sinks on them, so you would have more than enough dissipation capacity.
I think you're just being a scaredy-cat. Mount them secure to the sheet metal behind your taillight and they won't melt anything EVER. Also, bear in mind that if I wired them correctly, the only time the resistor is going to be loaded is when either your turn signal or brakes are on.

well, you're the guru! haha i will just replace the bulbs and leave well enough alone!
haha i guess i admit i'm a little skeered.... mostly because i don't get any kind of warning light or chime when my lights arent working.... sigh
BTW how long did V-LED's take to get back to your request? hours? days?

I believe it was a few hours. Somehow I got a phone number, maybe off the invoice or something. I don't care what people say, I'd still rather talk to a human being than send emails back and forth.

it was the bulbs, they work perfect now. I will do a complete write up tomorrow. i will start a new thread so it can stand alone. Thanks lips! couldn't be so bad ASS without you! haha

Hey no problem, man. Just glad it wasn't something with my harness. Now I know that these are something that actually work. Way to keep going instead of bailing on it. Enjoy!
