2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 tested on 7/21/11
6.4L V-8 and 5A with 470 hp/465 lb-ft
0-60 mph: 4.6 seconds
Quarter mile: 13.3 seconds @ 103.2 mph
Figure Eight time: 25.8 seconds @ 0.71 g
60-0 mph: 106 feet
Pounds per horsepower: 11.1
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 tested on 11/10/05
6.1L V-8 and 5A with 420 hp/420 lb-ft
0-60 mph: 4.8 seconds
Quarter mile: 13.5 seconds @ 101.6 mph
Figure Eight time: 26.1 seconds @ 0.69 g
60-0 mph: 124 feet
Six years after the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 arrives, the 2012 model sprints from 0-60 mph only two tenths quicker. If the 4.6-second time for a 5223-pound SUV doesn’t impress you, maybe the fact that the Jeep also gets 4 mpg more on the highway will.
Or, perhaps the stunningly short 60 mph stopping distance of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will catch your attention. At 106 feet, the Jeep’s performance is 16 feet better than the 2006 Grand Cherokee SRT8 and even surpassing the Chrysler 300 SRT8 and Dodge Charger SRT8. While there was no SRT8 version of the Grand Cherokee in the early 2000s, Jeep did offer a higher output version of the 4.7-liter V-8.
For fun, we’ve also included numbers on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited, an SUV that we said in a comparison was 1.4 seconds faster than the same Jeep with a 5.2-liter V-8.

Hmmm, Im just as big as a WK2 SRT8 fan as anyone BUT this is still biased in that its a magazine review and tons of factor play into the final #s :/
I want to buy it but until an unbiased (owners test) test between the WK SRT8 and the WK2 SRT8 takes place, im not buying into any of this comparo stuff. So this is nice and all, but in reality what does it mean? Nothing. Few other magz tested these two and got just the opposite #s. Im waiting for the real deal :D Thanks for sharing it though Scott, good to see some mags getting different results
Hope the WK2 is faster though haha

Since we are picking best #'s
A test from Car and Driver:

"And if startling others with a burst of manic acceleration is your idea of SUV fun, this Jeep gets it done, and pronto. It’s not as fleet as the German mammoths, but 4.4 seconds to 60 mph and 13.2 at 104 mph in the quarter-mile is speedy indeed for a sport-ute, and that big Hemi V-8 makes such wonderfully menacing sounds in the process."

Face it Scott, you're never going to win with the Gen1 people, they seem to hate the Gen2 as a matter of principle ;)

LOL, I don't hate the Gen2 as I own a WK2 Overland, I was just posting #'s, and before someone say's it I know the new one is night and day in quality, handling and interior.

Im not trying to sway anyone....I run a Jeep site and Im posting any info i find.....good or bad. People will make their own decision regardless of my opinion of the vehicle. But yeah....your statement is point on.

and to prove my point...I did the same with the 2011 Grand Cherokee! Now we have IMO...the BEST 2011+ Grand Cherokee forums on the net

I'm sure it's not everyone but you gota admit, the Gen1 crowd has been the most vocal anti Gen2 group and no one has even driven the Gen2 yet. :slapfight:

I would love to have the WK2 SRT8....the more I read and see the more I want one. But my Overland will have to do for now....maybe in a couple years.

I'm with you that that one. I was seriously thinking about taking the hit on the Overland when I thought the prices would be close but now I'm back to my original plan of looking at the 2013 or 2014 models once I've gotten a couple good years out of the Overland.

I agree, heck the WK is a pretty rough and tumble vehicle, amazing performer though and I love it but I'm hoping to love the WK2 even more.

seems like that doesnt it? Not a big deal but Gen1 owners "seem" to be the ones who are slightly interested in how it compares.
Personally what does it matter as long as it still hauls ass! I dont mind if its few tenths faster or slower. Sure faster is nicer but if not and its 5 flat 0-60 so what??? Few bolt ons and your back to a mid 4 sec street monster. I think people read into it too much sometimes.
If you're serious about speed and competition, Ive always felt track was place to be :D BJBs got it right, cage, blown 426, some 345 out back, strip it down lol, thats where the gear heads are at! I know not everyone can afford to do that, but worrying about a few tenths on the STREET is silly to me

ChryCo doesnt want the Jeep to be "the fastest" of the SRT's for obvious reasons. Its an SUV, not a sport coupe...ie challenger. But from the info Ive seen and received...the Jeep is the fastest 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile. Take it for what its worth and believe me if you want/.....I dont care. You will see when they hit the streets and owners get to the 1/4 mile tracks. There is a launch sequence that propels the Jeep to incredible mid 12 second 1/4 mile times. I also suspect they have them detuned just a hair for the track events with the journalists. Look at the launch in the motortrend video......0 slippage. Just a theory though....

The videos launch looked weak to me also like it started off with a half or 3/4 throttle then gradually romped on it.

Interesting info Scott. Detuned for the reviewers? Seems counterproductive and slightly defamatory against your own product but I see your point. Now if we can just get them off the assembly line. I really want to put your theory to test! ;)

having owned a 5.9 and now a WK1 I know there is no way in hell that the 5.9 either brakes as quickly from 60 or can run through a slalom as quickly. something is off with these numbers.

mid 12s would be INCREDIBLE and would put the WK2 exactly where it should be and where we all hoped it would be (ahead of its pricey competitors, just like last time). hope youre right.
the jeep was the quickest of the last srt8s, in a straight line and around a track.

reguardless, its the new genreation...everything is usually going to be better. I have a feeling people are going to be hitting better numbers stock then they did with the original srt8. who knows tho i could be wrong. personally the older srt8 is nicer but this one looks meaner if you can catch my drift lol

You're the first to say that. The first. SRT8 looks meaner and the WK2 is "nicer" IMO. And I own WK1srt8.

I know what you mean. The older one is more jeep and more what we are accustomed to. The new one just looks so mean because of all the curves.

ACTUALLY....the WK1 is further away from the previous WJ grand cherokee and Jeep. Thats why the public and Jeep purists never cared for the wk1's looks. Look at the 99-04 WJ and tell me this wk2 is not a more modern version......

Well..you are correct. The only thing from the WK2 that really turns me off is the rear end of it. IMO it looks way too much like an X5.

As far as styling goes, the butt end of an SUV always looks more like JLo's than Lohan's no matter what you do to it.

I'd be super stoked if the new model was about 4-5K more then the outgoing model. But, at the current price difference, these numbers are very disappointing, at best.

I'm astounded the Figure of Eight test resulted in exactly the same results for the 5.9 and the WK2. Regardless of the weight differences, I really would have thought advances in tire size and technology, along with suspension design would have FAR outweighed the extra weight of WK2.

lol, i guess i say it looks meaner because of the front. the headlights are straight and not circular, kinda looks like it has the face of a charger (not saying there humans but if you understand lol). just more agressive all around. inside and out for that matter. if only they kept the back the same way, and just changed the front to the way it is now..man it would be a killer

Marlin,
I do believe you are correct. .79 on the skidpad? Was it raining out?
There must be a typo, because there is no way that these times matched up with the same g's given the suspension and tires.

Well, I'd like clarification!
even if the figure is wrong, I'm still suprised the Niner gets that close to the WK1 SRT8.
