I think you might need to flush out your jeeps oil just to make sure none of that's being used by the motor (it doesn't look healthy to me).
you can flush all the old oil out by getting some cheapo oil to clean all that icky stuff out, if you want to that is.

I told Guido yesterday it's most likey water condensation in your catch can mixing with a little oil vapour.
Do me a favour, go out and see if there's the same shit under your oil filler cap ok.

Heat cycles buddy, an enclosed container when heat cycled naturally draws the humidity out of the surrounding air into it.
It's a reason why fanatics park their cars on carpet, to stop moisture being drawn out of the concrete into the muffler. It just happens mate.... sorry thats the best description I can think of atm......

make sure you are using fuel line, not just any old hose, other wise you may be sucking it closed and somehow drawing coolant into it......

Pic is a 6.1 not a 5.7. Thats definetly a 6.1 manifold and rail cover.

^^ isn't the manifold for the 5.7 made of plastic?
Mike_Levy
09-22-2009, 12:39 AM
The 05-08 5.7 manis are plastic. I'm told the 09s are very similar to 6.1 so they may not be on the Jeep. I know the Challenger ones are though.

There IS a better way of doing this catch can thing guys, but I'll need time to write it up.
Problem is, I won't be putting one on my Jeep, so maybe if I do a write up on my race car's setup, someone can replicate what I've said on their Jeep and do a proper Jeep writeup?

Frankie got some chicken fingers to go with that honey/mustard? LOL J/K but I think Benny is right. I'd save it in a ziplock or something and clean the can out and see if it happens again. Could just be like they said moisture in the system that got cought up in the catch can when it cooled like the receiver dryer in the a/c system. When a substance changes it's form you'll get some crazy stuff.

OK, I'm stupid. What is that catch can, where is it located and what does it do? Only hemi's or other engines too?

yikes, I'd be thinking head gasket leak. but if your filler cap and dipstick are clean, then maybe you are ok.

one the hemis they install this catch can on the line from the intake mani to the PCV valve. what happens, under load and even normal driving, oil sprays thru this hose and can go directly into your intake causing a mess inside there. gunking and gumming everything up. so the can catch's this blow by oil before it goes into the intake tract......

yeah if the dipstick is milky, especially after sitting overnight, then I'd pull the plugs and check them for coolant and I wouldn't drive the vehicle either until you find the source. you may want to check your coolant overlow tank for an oil film.

No, and especially on the 4.0 I6. Go to any junk yard and look at the air intake tube/plenum or the air box on any year 4.0 I6. I will guarantee there will be some kind of oil blow by in there. Some people say its the nature of the beast, id like to see a 4.0 with a catch can and see if it makes any difference.

Just to clirify fellas......
The main reason to have a catch can is this;
When oil is "breathed" back into the intake tract of an engine and burned via the engine, the oil effectively lowers the octane rating of the fuel you are using. The more oil introduced into the intake, the more effect it has.
Hence, on a high performance engine or anytime you're looking to get the utmost from an engine, using a catch can makes sense.
On an extremely tuned engine, ie, one running very close to it's limits of detonation, oil introduced into the equation (remembering it effectively lowers fuel's octane), will be enough to begina catastrophic series of events for the engine, beginning with uncontrolled detonation and flowing on from there......
Now, there's only a couple of engine's on the forum in my opinion who absolutely MUST have a catch can venting to astosphere instead of the inlet, but I can understand anyone else wanting to try it out, just don't expect a massive performance improvement, it's morer about saving highly stressed engines, which MOST of OUR engines certainly are not.

fill up the coolant and drive. maybe something weird happens when those hoses collapsed and it sucked in coolant.........
eventually, it will either surface full bore or go away gracefully
