View Full Version : AUX Cable added (iPac-CHY) - WK
I installed the PAC iPac-CHY iPod interface adapter a month ago, but didn't like the fact that the iPod is always being charged and that the screen would stay lit even when the vehicle was shut off. This will greatly reduce the life of the Ipod and that just ain't cool with me. So, at the cost of losing steering wheel controls (and the charging feature). I decided to utilize the addition input that the CHY has and that is a basic left and right channel stereo input.
Supplies:
PAC iPac-CHY
KnuKonceptz Krystal Stereo Y-adapter Cable
Heat shrink
Techflex (expandable sleeving)
Having already installed the CHY, all I had to do was pull the CHY's stereo input, Techflex the Knu cable, connect the Knu cable, drill/dremel a whole in the AC interface panel, and slightly dremel (bore out) the hole in the iPods case for the Knu plug.

Damn, that sucks.
Was it the main box that kept crapping out? The CHY-->iPod cable started giving me problems in the last week or so - it would just randomly start playing only from one side of the vehicle. It was an issue with the cable though, I could wiggle it and it would come back to all the speakers. Another reason I added the AUX cable.

I had the CHY Ipod cable, the first one they said had a short in the box, the second one they never told me what was up just gave me a store credit and thats when i got my Kenwood deck.
The first unit would not work at all. The second unit would work just fine then one day it just stopped working. So thats when i gave up on the stock head unit since i do not have nav.

Ah, I gotcha. Well at least in the end you've got an AUX input, lol :)

how much was the ipac?
how much was the ipac?
I needed it that day and bought it from a local dealer for $100. They typically run $120 (MSRP), but I think you can get them from buy.com for $88 shipped!

Do you need to lower the screen or power on the DVD? I have been thinking that would be the easy way of connecting any MP3 player.
cool! great job matt!
can this be done to a wj?

I'm pretty sure that someone makes an adapter for the WJ radios. Check out Crutchfield and search your vehicle/radio.

Good call not going the route that keeps you Ipod constantly charging. I made that mistake with my old 5th gen 30gb classic Ipod. Now its good for nothing but just leaving in the Jeep, which is fine with me ever since I bought a new nano for the gym and stuff.
I wont make that mistake again though. You would think with today's technology they would have some sort of way to cut power to prevent overcharging your electronics.

The nano is so much nicer for working out lol, whether I clipped it to my shorts or just put it in my pocket my 30gb would always fall out and rip the headphones out of my ears lol. It drove me nuts.

Yeah I hate using the video for working out or running. I think I'm finally motivated to get a nano/shuffle now, lol.

that's a smart way to connect it Matt ... thanks for posting it before I plugged in my Ipac :)

No prob Omar!
There are two ways I would have done this differently;
1. Do what another member here did (albeit my idea :p) and fabricate a headphone jack into the console.
2. Use a retractable mechanism (similar to the retractable portable headphones) so a cord could be retracted into a space.
But this was a quick fix for a temporary aux solution.

Hey Matt, will this stup work for the 6 disc cd changer? I think the Ipac i had was different and maybe i will give this route a try once i get some cash. The one that i had was a different model then yours so i dont know if your setup will work on my head unit.
