it def isn't recommended at all!!! when they first turn on they flash really brightly and then need a little time to warm up.
if you are somewhere where you will have your high beams on for a long period of time while driving then it makes sense to have them.
for flashing they are def not a good idea. the bulbs or ballasts will def die quickly if flashed all the time

Unless it's factory. My X5 had 2 sets of highs. The projector pattern changes for switched on (push the stick forward) perm highs. But to flash (pull the stick torward you) the inner round sets of lights flash with non HID halogens.

Your better off going with some good quality halogen bulbs, This is the main reason why I didnt get high beam HID's, also because I'm in Canada by high beams use half the voltage and are my day time running lights, therefore, if I had HID's in my high beams they would flicker during the day and the ballasts would probably burn out.

I have the silverstar ultra's in my high's and they look so yellow compared to the 5K lows. I rarely use them now though.
I think the question is how often do you use your highs?
And now that we know the answer is not that often, why allocate precious Jeep modding funds to such a low value mod.

im using this Optima brand 100w for my high beams. I barely use my high beams, just to turn em on when some a$$holes cabbies but me off.

I have HID highs...I use them if Im driving at night mainly coming home from the casino on roads that dont have street lights!
You cant really flash people with them and you have to turn off your SmartBeams!
If you do a lot of night driving on roads that dont have street lights they def come in handy, IMO!

Just curious, for a halogen bulb around the 5000K range, what brands would be the best, I want to grab a set of good high beam halogen bulbs.

I would recommend HIR's for the highs.

but my thing is with those bulbs they are $$$ if you're gonna spend 40-50 why not just buy a high beam kit for tony for $10 more and with a much better warranty :)

True but with high beams, most people use them to flash and tell people GTFO of my way.
But if you are using them for long stretches of road, then I would recommend HID's.

I don't want HID high beams because my DRL's will cause them to flicker during the day....remember for us canadians it wont work properly since our day time running lights run on the voltage of our high beams.
