I sold the Jeep yesterday. I wanted to take a second to thank all the great folks on this forum for the help, advice, and allowing my occasional rant about the Jeep.

Cheers!

Nope, no more Jeep. I really had a lot of trouble with this one and I am a BMW / MINI guy. I considered the WK2 and was holding out for the diesel model. Given what I experienced with this car, I would have been vetoed at home.

I looked at some used X3's and X5's, all of which either had lowish miles but were overpriced or had high miles and were in poor condition.

This may cause some raised eyebrows on the Jeep forum, but we are replacing the Jeep with a MINI Countryman All4. We were able to configure it how we wanted (colors, stick shift, heated seats, xenon, sunroof, upgraded sound) and we are coming in about 8 grand cheaper than all the other cars that were on my list. We wanted a smaller vehicle with better gas mileage and a warranty so that's what we got. I have a lot of experince with BMW / MINI cars and I feel good about the decision. It will join our 02 330ci convertible, 06 MINI Cooper S hardtop with Dinan S1, 07 650i coupe. All are stick shifts (the Jeep was the first car I have ever owned with an automatic transmission), all were special ordered, all have been maintained the old school method, and all have been great cars.

I will miss the Jeep for its utility.

Be well guys.

Hey James, As requested, here are a couple of pictures of the Countryman. It came in earlier this week - 400 miles so far and 29MPG!

I do miss the utility of the Jeep as it was quite the hauler, but the CM should fulfill 99% of my needs.
I also miss being an active participant on this forum. Good people. I sneak in and check periodically...

Happy New Year everybody!

Aw man, your a fan of the car of the Bourgeois, The brand of car that most owner's buy that think materials define their version of success in life. The kind that some owner's just don't buy for the handling or exceptional build quality but to say "Hey, I'm better than you". lol

It's a shame to see you go but I guess I can't blame you since you mentioned all the problems you have had. Could have been bad luck but maybe one day you'll find a Jeep worthy of your ownership. Until then, Enjoy your new Mini.

I and I'm sure all other members appreciate you being a part of the site and contributing towards the community and problem solving. We're going to miss you :(

It happens to lots of folks, "saying they will never have another one". Maybe you did have a bad one and maybe the next one would not even dring you to the forum, who knows.

I used to work for GM and before that AT&T. We made telephones, but I never drove one. We had Fords till I started getting an employee discount on GM products. GM like Ford and Chrysler had their problems and if it hadn't have been for all the foreign competition, quanity not quality might still be their driving force. Even yet, they all still have problems, even with floor mats getting stuck under the gas peddle!

Good Luck with your new ride and Happy New Year.

Best of luck to you!

Just because you don't own a jeep doesn't mean you can't stop in and say hello once in a while. :)

Yeah I know these things can be a handful at times. It seems like you either get a good one or a bad one no middle ground here. I've been fairly lucky with all of mine. That's why I stay.I feel your pain though. My work car will be the absolute last GM I'll ever own. Jeep may be the common bond here but this site has grown way beyond that now. Stick around and share the adventures with your new ride! Good luck!

Thanks All. I was planning on hanging on to the WJ until the WK2 became available with a diesel in the US or a more fuel efficient transmission for the V6. I was facing a very large repair bill on the WJ (V8 head gasket job) and that is the straw that broke the camel's back. Actually it was more like the other half's back. I had to move on to keep peace. We shopped for a new WK2' at three different dealers but between so so gas mileage, WJ issues, and dealers being stupid, Chrysler lost what should have been a slam dunk sale. Sad really.

I might be back with a more fuel friendly WK2 down the line... That is a good looking SUV and it seems fairly well put together.

Enjoy your Jeeps. I'll still pop in once in a while :)
