Today i went to my local dealership on the island and test drove a steel blue 2008 Jeep srt8. I LOVE THIS TRUCK, i have a 3.7 and it is sooo much faster its ridiculous, I had my friend in the passenger seat and the employee in the back seat, on the final turn back to the dealership and turned off the esp, and floored it, the truck took off like no other in the shortest amount of time that truck hit 80 and the speed limit was 30 but i was watching for cops ;), But when the esp was on the truck wouldn't gain speed as fast as it would because it tried catching traction every second. This is a crappy "review" even though its not new, that was the fastest vehicle i've ever driven and i wish i had the money to purchase it because i would love to have that as my daily driver and it gets better gas mileage than my truck too! Honestly that truck is so worth it. I really wish i could afford this truck bc i love the look and feel and i can only wish. Idk i just felt that i should write up my thoughts on the truck. The only thing i didn't like was that it was used with 30k miles and the tranny wasn't up to par when i would switch gears it wouldn't change, and the rear end from people flooring it all the time seemed messed up. Overall i love the truck, i wouldn't buy it used from a dealership but def new or private sale.
i hear your pain....i want one also

^Indeed it is.
And btw no matter if you buy these used from a dealer or privately, these things are beat on by the previous owner. It's all about if the owner does the preventative maintenance.

Not totally true. I only know of ONE SRT8 that has never seen past 90 MPH. I think its a 2008 with less than 20K miles on it
When he gets done with it, I told him that I would buy it from him.

bro, im selling my 2008 steel blue...in nassau like you know. if youd cut a check for 30k youd have a full extended warranty, wheel warranty, 44k miles and itd be yours. i need a quick sell. theres some issues i havent gotten to the dealer about yet but theyre all covered under the $100 deductible.

My 3.7 uses premium gas now after the tune. :)
Evic says 13 14 mph most of the time but I'm definately getting better mileage than that.

X2 to what Matt (Svenska) said and plus when you get the SRT you will be romping on that gas pedal all the time. You will probably see 9 mpg.
You live in LI so city mileage wont be mine in downtown Manhattan (6-7mpg).

why did you tune and put premium gas in a lifted jeep with big tires?

Better gas mileage and power. Check out my video. Might seem slow to you 4.7 owners but it was a huge improvement for my 3.7.

one thing i always mention is-
be prepared to spend up to at least 10 grand a yr just on gas alone. not including payments on the loan. and if youre under 25- good luck with insurance quote on a SRT8 in a highly populated city- bumble phuck areas are always lower insurance rates though.
if you got that, then go for it.

I live in Suffolk county and it's a very populated area no where like Kansas my insurance would be atleast 5grand a year just for my truck if I got an srt8, and I also have 4 cars under the insurance and a Camaro soon

I almost bought an SRT today. A friend of mine is a dealer. I almost traded in my Laredo for a 2010 SRT. Dammit. So close.
Payments as low as 400-450. I want to scream. I'm just not ready yet. I will have one soon though.

10k a year!!! I mean I know they guzzle but mann, you must do 90% city driving and romp her all the time haha, what do you get maybe 3/4 days on a full tank4 :eek:
Ive driven a lot of guzzlers and have never even been close to anything to put me on pace for $10k a year??? I guess its good to be "prepared" to pay that but I'd expect to pay only HALF that in a year

quite the opposite :D my travelings are 90% highway and 10% city. i dont drive to work or need to so i dont daily drive mine though. 3-4 times a week i go for leisure cruises. i didnt need this jeep. i WANTED this jeep. is why i still have it. but not for nothing my 04 overland v8 ate soo much gas that when i switched to the SRT8- i didnt even really notice the 1-3 miles lost per gallon. ;)
but not for nothing, every yr i test drove the SRT8 and every yr the dealership even stated to me "you know if you daily drive this car, your going to be spending at least 10-15 grand a year"......
i said yes i know! get me a black one now!!!! anyone who knows me i LOVE the beast too much :)

You are spending at least 7k on gas in a year on a SRT.
IMO.

Hmmm..... I don't think I would spend that much. Why? I don't drive that much. I'm a home body for the most part.

I've been trying to get in to one of these for the past couple of months. Got around to test driving one today and I ended up liking the numbers. $379 a month on an '08 and my insurance goes up $12, by comparison I am paying $320 a month now. IT does have about 50k miles on it though but it is a very clean ride, one owner, no accidents. My Laredo averages 13 to 14 mpg in town and has been for like the past 6 months so losing a couple more wont hurt much. lol Ended up placing a small deposit on it because I fell in love after driving this thing. I did not want to give it back. LOL

It all depends on your driving and where you live. Since I live in Downtown Manhattan and I DD it to and from everywhere (**** the MTA), I get about 7-8 mpg. In a normal habitat, lol, 10-12 is what you would be getting.

When you buy a performance oriented vehicle like the SRT8 you have to expect low MPG as an obvious factor. If you complain about the low MPG or can't afford the gas don't buy it, simple as that lol.
