I also posted this on another site, but its great info for those who dont know!

Was playing around on the internet, and went to the jeep website. Decided to register and be a member. Takes 2 minutes. Once in there i added my vehicle (http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58582#) by the VIN#. After a few minutes it will update your vehicles info, after which i found what i thought to be something VERY useful... under vehicle information, you have a sevice history link, that will show you all service history performed on your vehicle when taken to a dealer where the VIN was inputted. Tells you the date, the dealer who performed the service, the service performed (click on the date) and the mileage. Pretty good info if you ask me!!! Not sure how far back it goes as far as year of your vehicle, but all of my 06 info is there!

Weird. I looked up my service records last week for the same car and got a service record. In fact there were parts that needed to be replaced but apparently the P/N have been changed since because there was no item.
Now when I looked up my service record it says no records available and I should check back later.
Just wondering what happened to the records I saw.

Most service information is owned by the franchise... Being an employee at a dealer that bought out a Chrysler Dodge franchise about 2 years ago now, for the longest time we got people swaring they were in our system or asking for service records... not the case. I am not sure what it takes for a repair to show up there but rarely is there alot of information there. Attached to our repair orders we have the vin information, all the owner info, warranty coverage, and I am assuming the same "repair" information that would be shown there and rarely is there information on previous work.

yep, chrysler told me the same thing when i requested repair history after buying my jeep. they said you would have to get it from each individual dealer that serviced it.

I have been on that site for awhile with my 04 Pacifica. The Pacifica and now the Jeep GC both get free oil changes. All of the services are listed on the site when I check them. My Pac was in for a few Recalls and both were listed as performed in the Service area.
Definitely a GREAT SITE.

Im sorry but your free oil changes are just "I already paid for this" oil changes... you paid for it when you bought the car. Which likely explains why you see that information, I think it has something to do with repairs performed under warranty that are reported to chrysler... otherwise information will be unlikely.

a partial service history is now available on the site for my jeep. work that i know was performed by the dealer before i bought it is not on there though.

Which are included in the price YOU paid for YOUR VEHICLE ALSO if you bought it from a dealership that does this. So, We use it. I remember when I was younger when NOBODY TOUCHED MY VEHICLES FOR ANYTHING BUT FRONT END ALIGNMENTS. Now, at 65 years old, a few things have changed and I will use the free oil changes.
YOUR PEROGATIVE NOT TO USE THEM.

Did this with my XK and my WK when they were purchased. Both had a list of service entries as well.

Technically/Legally the DMS provider owns the data since it is stored on their servers(this applies for Reynolds, ADP, and Arcona). However, per franchise agreement clauses 99% of dealers voluntarily share this information with Chrysler so that they are eligible for rebates and incentives for parts and vehicle sales. Keep in mind most of these clauses didn't go into affect until 05-06ish...so some of your earlier data may not be available as some dealers were "late to the game" on sharing. Alluding to the "repair" information part, that is another reason you may not have detailed info or info at all for a particular repair as the system matches RO data to a standardized LOP registry so if the dealer is using some funny custom lop it won't match correctly.

In my case, the service information posted is "vanilla/basic" at best. I know this because I asked the dealer for detailed service records since the Carfax indicated that service had been performed. The selling dealer Service Manager informed me that the detailed information would NOT be available to me due to privacy laws in Massachusetts. What a bunch of B.S. After much complaining, they provided the "most recent" info which included cutting out the previous owners name. I explained that I was not interested in who previously owned the vehicle, but wanted a detailed up to dated service history where possible. They refused and I complained to Jeep.com. No satisfactory response from them and still guessing what specifically was done at each scheduled interval. Customer satisfaction, NOT!!!! If anyone has a better resolution, please post and I will persue with follow up results. Thanks in advance.

Mine isnt very thorough, but it lists the dealership, date and mileage brought in, a very brief description, and a repair order #. Here is a copy and paste of an entry:

12-12-2009 Dayton Andrews Inc
Mileage: 58902

Date: 12-12-2009
Location: Clearwater FL
Odometer Reading: 58902
Repair Order Number: 43535
Service Description: wheels & tires,Miscellaneous

I dont know how long it takes to have info put in, but I brought it in for an oil change 2 weeks ago and its not there yet, but it was my first time to this certain dealership since i am out of town for school for the next 4 months.

Mine had 4 entries, 2 of which I am curious about what they mean..

1. 01-29-2008Freedom Dodge-Chry-Jeep63561
Service Details
Date:01-29-2008
Location:Lexington KY
Odometer Reading:63561
Repair Order Number:389194
Service Description:Transmission tune-up

2. 02-28-2008Freedom Dodge-Chry-Jeep63633
Service Details
Date:02-28-2008

Two transmission "tune-ups" 1 month apart? Anybody know what a DRB III test is? Would you be concerned over this?

DSMLVR

A DRB test is when they hook up a computer to it and check it out.

Ok, you think they would do that if it wasnt having issues? I am guessing it was having some problems, which is concerning

I'm glad I work for [a company], which provides me with our unlimited vehicle history reporting product for free :) . That way, I KNOW what my Jeep has been through. In fact, it's the reason I bought the Jeep in the first place...
