does anyone know if the cooler ducts can fit on the Limited? I'm guessing minor cutting is involved. does anyone have a picture or illustration of the SRT bumper with the ducts installed?

Robert Palmer

You are going to need holes on the left and right side of the bumper. And these holes have to be seen when you are looking at the front of the Jeep, at its bumper.

they are not a direct fit....not saying they cant be modded to work. The front of the coolers use push pins to hold them to the bumper....youd have to figure a way to mount them and where to mount them.

thanks guys, I'm guessing the input for the ducts is an opening next the SRT fog lights? If so, then the Limited would need more cutting than I want to do. :)

From what I understand it's alot of work. But Im sure can be done.

Scottina06

it can be done easily...the cluster cover just pulls off and the cluster is held in by screws. But...everything on the SRT cluster will not work. I forget what...maybe oil pressure. But you will also get warning lights......

Black Betty
02-07-2010, 11:38 PM
Hey guys, I gotta 5.7. Can anyone tell me what parts from the 6.1 will interchange with the 5.7? Just bought my 06 WK a week ago and I'm a ford head and so/ so Chevy. I know that some parts form the Chevy LS blocks can interchange parts ie a 6.0 intake on a 5.3 block etc. But I'm just breaking into the world of new school Hemi, so I'm having to start from square one with Mopar.

I believe the 6.1 heads will swap in...but unless you find them real cheap...I would go with a 5.7 race ported head. The 6.1 exhaust manifolds will also swap in...but they are larger than the 5.7 and there may be a few modifications needed to swap them in.

Black Betty,

What all do you want to swap over?

The heads have a different chamber (Bore size) and will need to be matched/machined, the intake (larger) port and exhaust (larger and shaped differently, D not rounded square type) ports are different also and will need work if you want them to fit and work properly.

Get some 5.7 race heads like Scott said. Leave the intake Mani alone it is sweet as is. Get a set of AR Headers and a CAI and you will be on your way to mod fever...lol. The 6.1 cam (you will need the 6.1 push rods also) and crank will fit and MDS will work if you want to keep it. I only use mine on the highway.

The brake duct coolers fit on mine (05) just fine (holes were already there) no modifications needed, might be different on later years though.

Just curious. I'm not doing any diggin into the motor at the moment, just didn't know if there was anything that could be swapped and if so if it would be worth it. I'm still torn at this point where I want to take my vehicle. I mean it is a jeep and it's sweet to take a WK and make a Wrangler owner take notice when you take your uber equipped vehicle off the beaten path. Then again I love the shit outta the SRT8 and think it's a sexy beast. If I can find a happy median of decent offoad warrior when I want and clean street sexiness, I think I'd be content. I'd say I lean more towards SRT8 and performance, but it is a Jeep and would be cool to show people that WKs aren't made for grocery getting.

I thought it was the upper one Scott... the schmatics point to the upper... at least that is what my retinas told my brain..... But, upon closer scruitiny, it appears I was foolish to question a moderator... https://www.jeepoemparts.com/jeep-grand-cherokee-parts.html If you go to front bumper and click on it or the grille, should show you a schematic. thought since the mesh appeared to be above the fogs, it was the upper. Didn't account for the exploded view. Should have remembered that from my drafting days.

Scottina06

its ok bro....I did the same thing once. But you have to go to Grille and then select the color you want. which you would select the cheapest and then have it painted to match or switch your painted section out.

Hi guys, I am new to this forum and just traded my Black WH 08 CRD Overland for an White 05 WK and someting extra and considering to mood to an SRT clone,
??? my question is if the front and rear bumper covers will align with the original fender flares and what aftermarket exhaust will fit the new rear middle exhaust output, and if the original grille will fit
Thanks

the front and rear bumpers fit perfect....but there are some other parts needed for both bumpers. Foe the exhaust....the cheapest alternative is to use a stock SRT exhaust. There is a how to for both of these mods in the how to forum

Well, I don't know what's goin' on now. My old roommate works in parts at my local Jeep dealer. I explained to him that something is messed up with the pricing or we have the wrong part. He assured me that it's the right part and he searched all SRT8 years with the same result. He found one about an hour away from me, and he's having it shipped here.

So I hope he found the right part, and he isn't shipping some random part that I don't need!

I don't care for clones myself (otherwise just would buy one :) ), or the srt-8 in general (for me...this is not my performance vehicle but needed a 4x4) but a couple items would be neat on the WK and didn't see them listed:

seats (but is there a way to remove logo? do they bolt right in?)

and the pedals (are these just overlays or replaces them? if overlays, I'll just make something)

I'm sure there are other cool little tidbits that would be neat if you can find them cheap enough.

the seats bolt in to all WK's...but the wiring may be a different story. depends on what year the seats are and what year the wk they are going in...
Thee logo is embroidered into the seats

the pedals are overlays

back to the absorber, i said the same thing when i ordered from justforjeeps, i saw that it was only like 80 and i said i thought they were around 400, he said he wasnt sure but they must have come down in price a lot so i wasnt gonna argue ha. This was late last year though, they were out for a while...maybe they are again

the front bumper is actually from a 2006 srt8? will I have any trouble ??

Scottina06
04-02-2010, 03:23 PM
you wont have any problems installing it....other than needing an 06 front bumper support(they are only like $25). But you will have a space under the headlamps becasue your lamps are scallopped(rounded) on the bottom whereas the 06-07 SRT's have headlamps that are flat on the bottoms.

pipe579
04-02-2010, 03:47 PM
so wat do you recommend. Should I sell this bumper and get an 08-10 or should I work with the one I have. Will the space look bad?? My other question is .. if I install just the front bumper and put the SRT rims and lower it without putting the rear bumper or the side skirts, will it look bad ??

Scottina06
04-02-2010, 06:21 PM
I would get the 08-10 bumper. I trid it with the 06 bumper and 08 headlights. I made a filler piece and had it painted to match and it just didnt satisfy me. I would also get the SRT skirts...they look much, much better!

USN_BlackWK
04-07-2010, 05:03 PM
Speaking of side skirts. I have a S-Limited with the SRT8 side skirts (whatever made Jeep put them on a WK with QD-II and full skids is beyond me) and will be selling them, but have absolutely no clue what the going rate is for slightly (like 500ish miles) used painted (Inferno red crystal pearl coat) skirts as I'm not really into the SRT8 crowd. This is not a for-sale add, and they are not yet even for sale, just wondering what a fair asking price would be?

What parts do I need to make it work with what I have now on my 07 SRT bumper? As for the headlights can I use the 08-10 headlights standard ones not the HID ones will they plug and play.

you need the 08 bumper, headlights, grill and front bumper bracket. Any 08-10 headlights will do....but Im not sure if the non-HID headlights will be plug and play.

my 2006 3.0CRD overland bumper has been damaged, the parking censor has cracked, and the step-pad has been pushed in by the damage caused. (some twat drove into it while i was at the mall).

Now, how easy, and expensive would it be to fit a SRT8 rear bumper with the chrome parking strip? i know one obvious difference is the exhaust on the SRT is in the middle, but is there anything else that would prevent this?

robpp
05-28-2010, 06:00 AM
no. mounts right up.
you already have the bumper fog wiring.......

and you will have the exhaust cut out area.

Scottina06
05-28-2010, 11:24 AM
Im not 100% sure on the WH......but the rear absorbers may be different. In the US they are because of the rear fogs the SRT bumper has. But on the WH...you have the rear fogs too...so you may be good in that area. Should be an easy upgrade for you.

Sounds simple, but tbh my DIY skills are somewhat limited. That leads me on to some other questions:

Costing, do you guys know of a ball park figure? bumper, parking strip etc.

how much would it cost to change the exhaust so it looks like the SRT? and if i didnt do that, would it look weird with an empty SRT exhaust cut out?

Thanks guys.

well...you would just need the cover...has you already have the parking strip and rear fogs. prices for the SRT rear bumper here in the US are $300-$400 for a used one. I saw one on ebay with slight damage for $215.....and a completely painted to match NEW OEM rear for $799.
The exhaust is easy...but you need to find an SRT owner thats upgraded his stock exhaust and grab his stocker. From there...there is a how to in the how to forum. its fairly simple for a decent exhaust shop.

Thanks Scott, you guys really are quite amazing. Dont know where I would be without your input and advice.

Just a shame we do not have the same network over here in England.

off to spend the rest of my work day to look for a SRT bumper!

But before I go, if i did find a SRT bumper, and left the exhaust as is for now, would that cause any damager? my Jeeps a 06 3.0CRD Overland.

you may have to change the routing of your exhaust tip so it doesnt burn ot melt the SRT bumper. The srt bumper sets lower than the stock wk bumper and the exhaust heat will melt it if its close

Its not hard...but expensive...even with used parts...plus you'll have to upgrade wheels as the brembos are much larger. Heres the parts you need...

2-front SRT knuckles(spindles)
front/rear Brembo calipers-loaded and with all bolts
all four SRT rotors
front and rear brake lines with copper washers
2-rear adapter plates

Whats up peeps! I have a buddy that has a 06 Limited Hemi 5.7. He put 08 headlights, 08 SRT8 Front bumper and 08 Non SRT8 Chrome Grill. He claims that when he closes the hood the front grill sticks out at the bottom. Also said that the bumper has nowhere to attach to at the top, like where you put the clip/screws in, or something like that. Lol.. Has anyone put 08-up SRT8 front bumper kit on there 05-07?? Do you think its the 08 Non SRT8 grill?? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks

If you are planning to rebuild a custom cat back dual exhaust system on your non-SRT Cherokee; consider the SRT rear bumper.

From the list below I have highlighted in RED the items not required for the "WH" Export Limited.

I just picked up 07 SRT front and rear bumpers for my 06 Overland. I understand they "almost" bolt right on, but I need some bumper absorbers?? for the rear and supports?? for the front. Can someone enlighten me on exactly what I actually need? The bumpers came complete, but with no mounting hardware. I've been through this and the "How To" threads, and still have a few questions. I also haven't been under the WK yet to scope things out. Thought I'd check here first.

1. One post indicated that the wiring and plugs for the rear bumper lights is on the existing wire loom. Is that true? If so, where are they hiding?
2. The rear "bumper absorbers (I guess there are two) are different than the standard WK? Do I need these or what's the best thing to do???
3. Can some/all of the supports/extensions be fabricated or should I go to the dealer or justforjeeps? Exactly what would I need to fabricate or purchase? Part numbers?
4. I am planning to modify the mounting for the stock hitch. Anyone done this? Looks like I might just need a heavy duty extension plate to lower it. Any thoughts, or has anyone done this?
5. What has some that have done this mod. done with the lower plastic SRT grill? Change, leave it alone, modify, paint a contrasting color, remove, or ?
6. Is everything going to be fairly obvious when I set them in place, or will I encounter any mysteries on how/what to do to properly secure them?
7. Are the red rear SRT lights just running lights (I noticed single filament bulbs),brake lights, or ??
8. Any other hints or parts needed or recommended?

The bumpers are being painted now, so I should be installing within the week, unless I need other stuff. I appreciate any help, or shortcuts.

the absorder is the actual "bumper" what you have are the covers.
1. it is in the trailer wiring under the vehicle, i think all grand cherokees have them but may not be factory activated unless you have a tow hitch. you will need to buy a harness from lips to connect the lights to the trailer wiring.

2. the rear srt absorber is wider than the stock absorber, you need to buy one.

3. the stuff is not that expensive, have your dealer order it.

4. you can buy a lower hitch to mount on it.

5. most leave it black to match the upper grille.

6. its all plug and play so it is very obvious.

7. they dont work without the harness from lips. they will work as brake lights and turn signals.

jeepgcoman
04-06-2011, 06:46 PM
Thanks, Swede. I think the absorber is there. Does it look like a removeable plastic framework? In any case there is more there than just the cover. Is there a cover on the front too? I didn't pay much attention to it, so I am not sure if it has the same type arrangement.

I understand that the stock SRT hitch is rated much lower (~3000 lb. vs. ~7000 lb.) than the stock WK one. I would like to keep the higher rated unit, so I may just build a meaty adapter for it.

If I can't find the wiring I'll probably tap into either the running or brake lights. Thoughts?

The stock lower grill is kind of cheesy looking, that's why I asked. Don't know what I'll do yet. I am going to keep the stock Overland grill though.

What is "Lips"? Do you have a web address, and do I need part numbers or ?

How do I know which extensions/supports I need? Part numbers or visual parts breakdown, so I can see what's there?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the quick reply. Mine just say "alcoa forged". I just did a little research and I see the db indicates if it has the durabrite finish, which mine don't. What was the difference between the two, is it supposed to be a protective finish?

very easy. Just swap the absorber and bumper cover. Youll also have to do something with your exhaust tip...a simple turn down tip will be all you need.

Will my towing hitch fit through the center exhaust port on the SRT8 rear bumper?

Thanks for the help! I dont plan on doing the srt exhaust so i'm just concerned about keeping my tow capability. would i just need to purchase the srt hitch/drop hitch or are there any other supporting parts needed? connecting harnesses, brackets, extenders, etc.

Front Support Bolts ( Requires 4 ) ( Item # 06507668AA or AA1 ) this part is $5 each from the dealer. i was able to reuse my current skid plate screws and i went to ace hardware and got the other bolts, washers and nuts for $2 total. saved $18 on the conversion this way

Good thread! I read through the entire thing, as i was about to buy a cheaper jeep and do this conversion before i decided and pulled the trigger on the Srt.
