View Full Version : 3.7 port and mild polish?

Anyone had their 3.7 throttle body ported and polished by Flyin Ryan? How were the results? Thanks
FlyinRyan
10-07-2009, 04:42 PM
WSP, I haven't done any 3.7s yet. BPOD has been coordinating with me about doing his, I *should* be recieving payment from him next week.
The 3.7s are similiar in design to the 4.7...the 4.7s react very well to the ported TB.
If theres any questions or concerns, please post up, and I'll do my best to answer.

Ya im going to send my TB in next month no matter what, but im just trying to get an idea of the results. Ryan said he has yet to port and polish a 3.7, but he may be doing one for another member shortly.

I make no gaurantees on gas mileage, because it's highly dependent on the customer's right foot, however in the results I have seen thus far, in mixed driving the average difference has been a 1 MPG increase.
I have responded to your latest PM.

How much is it to do?

It doesnt have to machined perfectly? Is porting a TB is it the same as boring out cylinders, just enlarging the opening basically. I think with a Dremel there would be imperfections all along the insides. I've seen a drill press attachment that has all these balls on the ends thats used for honing cylinders, would that work?

I used my variable speed bosch drill and a bunch of different attachments. It has taken a really long time, whenever i had some time to kill I just popped it off and started grinding away. It's getting there.

Are you serious? I need to do some research now into this. I have never taken my TB or now what it looks like in there, or what exactly boring it out is supposed to end up like. As in I would think it has to PERFECTLY round in there.
So is the concept just to make it larger in diameter in there? If you have done it with a simple drill I was thinking I could set my drill in my vise and work the TB around the bit. Or just take it to the machine shop my work uses where the guy loves me and tell him to just make it bigger? Im sure he would do it for free with all the business we give him. Whenever I go drop or pickup stuff there he insists on showing me his latest projects, he just showed me how he is machining parts that go on the Raptor jet fighter for the Air Force. He said he has no idea where it goes or what it does, because the military just sends him drawings and specs of simple pieces to make by the hundreds then when they get them they piece everything together from various outsources.

Yup it's super easy to take off. Just three bolts and two cables. Just make sure you don't bore out too much where the throttle plate is or you'll create a bunch of issues.

And you didnt install it yet??? Im sorry but I was outside sunday right after the big snow storm under my car fixing my exhaust cuz one of the resinators decided to drop down and the tips were rubbing. I was under there for an hour in my snow covered driveway with the car jacked up on stands in my ski suit no gloves. If you let your car run awhile working in the engine compartment wont be bad, would be toasty warm from the heat. 2 years back I changed out my fuel pump in my 94 GC during a snow storm, took me over 5 hours to do with dropping the gas tank, rusted bolts, snow and freezing temps. Come on bro, Man up and get that part installed.....

OK, I have an update.
Irf was not able to install the throttle body. Unbeknownst to me, in 2007 the 3.7s became fly by wire, just like the Hemis. The throttle body he has is for a 05-06. I'm embarassed as this is my fault for not being aware of this change. Irf will be taken care of accordingly, and he'll be getting a ported 07+ TB immediately. I apologize to everyone that has been anxiously waiting for a review about this TB.
The TB he currently has will work in a 05-06 3.7 WK. If any of you are interested in it, please let me know.

i'm sure it will be worth it. the TB is leaving my house today to go to the new owner. how long he takes to install it is off my hands:)
it took me 10 mins to get to the TB last night. doesn't take long, putting the air res box back on was a pia. you def need a 10-12" extension bar, 3/8 or smaller 1/2 will be too big to reach the torque bolts

I would get the TB right now, you can get the tb for a good price and ryan is currently porting. you can get the intake added on whenever you can.
i would also remove the air res(our 3.7's have the air res and it really quiets the motor!)

Eh, if you're gonna use PVC , try not to use PVC bends but instead sillicone couplers. I am using a PVC intake that I made 4 years ago, but in the process of either shopping for a new one or at minimum new parts to make another one out of as it looks ghetto and is embarassing when the hood is up.
Another option is to cover the whole thing in some sort of heat wrap/cool tape.

4" is WAY too big for a 3.7....
I suppose if you wanted to make your own intake and then run a 4" into a 3.5 or smaller adapter to connect it to the TB, you could...
I don't recall the OD of the 3.7 TB. I think it is 3". I know for a fact that the 4.7's are 3.25"
I believe I'm gonna be building a 4" intake, so I might take you up on that on Scott. Assuming it applies to me too.

In the Jeggs catalog I have they sell metal, looks like SS or polished anyways, straight pipes and different elbows to make your own intake. The prices are really good, if I were to do one I would prob buy from there. I went onto there web site but its different from the catalog I have. I already WASTED my money on this K&N CAI, the only thing I would do to it now is buy a different cone filter that has the top middle open as well for more air flow and then built a duct from the lower bumper opening to that new filter acting as a "ram air" set-up I see they sell for mustangs. Ram that air into the motor, lol.
