My 2.7 crd does seem to take a long time to warm up, actually I dont think Ive seen it goes past 1/4 mark on the temp gauge. But I do get warm air finally to heat the cabin.
Is this normal for this engine, or should I think of replacing the thermostat ?

Not sure how warm the diesel is supposed to get, but if it isn't as warm as it used to be my guess is either the temp sensor is bad or the thermostat failed open. On my old ZJ the thermostat failed open, in the middle of winter. While my engine temp never went above 120 degrees or so, it was definitely a bit chilly in the cabin.

What temp are you running in? Anything past -10 celcius or so and it wont warm up while driving in the city, but highway is no problem. Try some winter grill gaurds, just dont block the intercooler or air intake.

Ive only owned it for about 6 weeks and its always been the same. The weather is getting colder in the south of England now so were waking up to zero celcius now. Its not going to be cold like Canada, so it shouldnt effect the jeeps ability to warm up properly.
I'll get the thermostst changed as a first instance and go from there.

Forgot to mention the oil temp hits the half way pont on the display and stays there. To me that indicats the core temp of the engine is ok ?

Definitely try the thermostat first. Fairly inexpensive part, should only cost around £30-£40.

Guys, 2.7 CRD always show LO (below 1/2 scale) Nothing is wrong. Not even the thermostat. Just leave it as it is. In the city it takes long to warm up.

MY 2.7 crd seems the same temp sits about 1/4 mark but she warms up ok maybe 3 to 4 mins, if i was driving on motorway the temp would drop lower than 1/4 mark then go back up when off the motorway in town or city i think this is norm. Heat in the cabin is fine...fingers crossed.

I got the thermostat changed and she hits the 87 degree mark now (half way between the 1/4 and 1/2 way marker if you understand me) , and warms up just a little faster.
