Okay, here is my dilemma... I'm contemplating doing the Mopar Kicker upgrade in my 2005 GC.

I'm a little confused on the parts selection. I believe that it has the factory Boston Acoustics system, but not 100% sure...

Here is the parts list from WKJeeps.com:

77KICK18AB 368-watt 8-channel amplifier upgrade

(Note: Amplifier upgrade is only for vehicles that came with the factory premium sound system)

77KICK11 $210.00 Front 6x9 midbass speakers (pair) and front dash 3.5" 2-way tweeters (pair) $165.00 Rear 6.5" 2-way speakers (pair)

77KICK10 $79.00 Kicker Rear 6.5" 2-way Speakers

77KICK12 Single 10" square subwoofer with built-in 200-watt amplifier

OR

77KICK23 Dual 10" square subwoofers with two built-in 200-watt amplifiers $565.00 $885.00

Has anyone done this upgrade, either with the single or dual woofer? Did you go with the 368 watt Kicker amp (77KICK33) http://www.justforjeeps.com/kiamup7.html or just the Kicker Amplifier Upgrade (77KICK18AB) http://www.justforjeeps.com/kiamup8.html ?

Seems like a pricey upgrade over stock, but need to get my tunes on! The truck already has REC Nav, DVD Infotainment, Sirius, etc...

I also did the Kicker upgrade with the single sub....I am happy with the results considering the ease of installation....I didnt want to go the aftermarket route with the Jeep...

Sub is a must.. can't comment on the kicker upgrade but the BA and a 12'' is o-so-nice :)

Agreed, a sub bass driver (with some authority/presence) really completes the BA stereo. The 6x9 woofers in the doors just don't cut it for most :p

Is it really worth it to go the dual sub route or just the single? I too like the idea of plug-n-play with no cutting wires and aftermarket hokey looking. It seems a little spendy, but I may be down doing this, just confused on what amp to select and if I should go single or dual subs.

Thanks for input any additional input guys.

How much bass can you take?

IMO one 12" sounds leagues better than two 10's... the larger the diameter, the speaker is able to produce a deeper sounding sound. I have 600 watts to one 12" sub but if I did it again, I would get at least 800 watts but then again the bass might overtake the BA or even the Kickers' sound and an upgrade in mid-range speakers might have to compliment that kind of power.

If you want to keep storage go with a single sub and a digital amp. The digi amp is to reduce heat and with that in mind, you can hide it in tighter compartments without the thought of overheating.

ugh, this depends on sooo many other things. What type of sub, enclosure, power...

the larger the diameter, the speaker is able to produce a deeper sounding sound.

This is incorrect Ryan. People usually mistake louder for deeper and liken it to the size of the driver. It's just not true. A 10" driver can get just as deep (and as loud) as an 18" driver.

I have 600 watts to one 12" sub but if I did it again, I would get at least 800 watts

Honestly, you'd probably not even notice a difference. Every time you double your power you only gain 3db. 200 more watts on top of 600... you'd see no difference.

I'm glad so many of you audiophiles exist, because I know very little about audio other than the basics.

I'm guessing I'd probably go with the dual 10" option offered by Kicker/Mopar... Don't haul much and it seems easy to pull out as well when needed.

That's what I would do if I were you :) Listen to Matt, alot of people trust his audio knowledge here!

Aren't all your posts just useless muttering LOL, j/k. :p You got the amp part right, especially if it's going to be stored in that little storage area.

Here's my 2 cents off the top of my head, I wouldnt bother with any of that kicker upgrade stuff. I Would delete the rears and dash speakers altogether, and buy a good set of component speakers for the front doors and mount the mid and tweeter side by side in the 6x9 opening as shown below.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/tdiglar78/DSC01708.jpg

Then buy a single 10" or 12" sub and a JL 450/4 amp (or similar power rating) to power everything. That amp will let you run 75 watts to the front speakers and bridged for 300 watts for the sub. That set-up will be around $600.

I only say this because its similar to what I have in now. I realized dash and rears are not needed for awesome stereo imaging, and I have only a single JL 10W6v2 sub and it is unreal in the open area WK. I bet a single JL 10W0 or 12W0 would sound great, I think the WK stealth box comes with a 10W1 or 10W3. And purely based on my readings of the kicker upgrade from online I hear it isnt the best sounding for the money. Again, just my 2 cents.

x2, ive had both and now i have the BA system with a single Kicker 12" and kicker 750w amp and i am very pleased. Its no competition based system but its just perfect for me. I used to have a Kicker 500W amp with dual kicker 10s and i was not happy with it at all.

Door speakers, tweets and amp on the way. Will order the sub box when I bank some more money for this project.

The WK turned 10K miles today.

Here is a nice write up from the SRT forums a few years back. (Hope I'm allowed to link to another forum)

Not sure if you have an 08 or not, but the 08 door trim removal was a bit tricky as it was different as compared to 05-07...

Partsexpress sells boxes for cheap money, actually cant believe how cheap they cost. A single 10" enclosure is around $20 from there, where I spent $8 for a 2'x4' sheet of 3/4" mdf from homedepot and another $9 for a roll of carpet to make mine. Shipping might be high though, not sure.

Good call on PE, but I think he's doing the Mopar Kicker sub woofer/enclosure.

So how did this turn out? I see that justforjeeps.com no longer sells this for the GC. Other sites have it marked for $850 then shipping is another $75. I don't know if this is worth it anymore. I know it's custom for our set up, and has everything, but for almost $1000? Anybody want to sound off on this LOL? I'm wondering what I can have made locally here in SF, CA. I listen to all kinds of music ie: Forbidden, Satyricon, Sublime and Daft Punk just to name a few. :headbang:

any dealer can order it, most likely for less than just for jeeps. i got mine from a junk yard for less than $100 for the system out of a 2010 srt8

the boston set is a huge upgrade over the crappy stock set and the kickers are a huge upgrade over the boston set
