Was going to get a JL mono amp, but the salesman talked me into getting the focal mono amp instead. Hope the sound is as clean as a JL amp? Here's a pic of the bass control knob to the upper left of the shifter. To the left and below the parking brake handle is the on/off switch for my blinder laser jammer. Future mods are focal speakers for the f/r doors and dash. This time around a JL 300/4 amp to drive them.

Very nice set-up!!! The amps will sound the same... it's hard to come up with solid evidence that amps have a sonic fingerprint on output. Basically, power is power.

you will definently hear the difference between dirty power and clean power...

That wasn't my argument, but yeah.

Can you elaborate on this. Im curious what "dirty" power is.

I personally have JL amps. I bought the 450/4 because of the high power output and it is very flexible with what its capable of running. I like the R.I.P.S feature on them which puts out full power at 1.5-4 ohms @ 11-14.5 volts. There was someone on another site that was talking about JL amps, saying he tested a 500/1 and it was putting out full power even when the cars voltage was below 9 or 10 volts. The JL's have a bunch of diff crossover filters built in, the 500/1 has 6 which im not even sure what they do, though most if not all amps have some type of filter/filters. "Crossovers are groups of individual electronic filters which allow only certain frequency ranges to pass through them by attenuating frequencies outside the selected range. These filters allow the user to specify what frequency range will be sent out of each channel section of the amplifier. This, in turn, allows each speaker system to only reproduce a range of frequencies it is well suited for, resulting in reduced distortion and improved fidelity." (taken from the jl install book)

I think matts statement is absolutely true, power is power. Though not all amps are created equal in how they are capable of performing in terms of power output and frequency filtering. Not sure about other amps, but the JL amps show how to adjust each channel to its maximum unclipped output level easily with an AC voltmeter, which I remember on my other amps i'd be listening by ear turning the gain up waiting to hear distortion which doesnt seem that accurate to me.

Im not really in the loop with all the diff brands anymore, but when I was looking around for all my gear that I have now I heard Focals in a Tweeter before they closed, and they sounded very good, loud and clear. I really like how the Focal K2's look and the Utopia's are just insanely expensive around $4,500.

On July 3rd added a few more items to my stereo system. JL audio HD600/4 amplifier, C5 650 component system (front door speakers and tweeters in dash), XR650CXI co-axial speakers (rear door). I was going to get C5 650X speakers in the rear doors, but decided to go cheaper. The Kinetik HC600 battery wouldn't fit anywhere in the back or under the seat, so not purchased. The sound and vocals are noticeably better now. Don't have pics of the new speakers as they're installed, but here's the JL amp, audio control and the Focal mono amp.

That is such a sweet setup but I am having a hard time deciding between the stealth box or just a couple of tens tucked nicley behind the seat. HOw is the stealth box for bass?

I didn't do a quote on questions asked, but I can turn up the bass loud enough to feel it and shake things up, but it's not the biggest or baddest subwoofer around. Cost is in the thousands cause I didn't do the labor, as if I could.

LOL system looks great, Dan.. I like the bass knob location; for some reason my bass knob is on the passenger side just adjacent to yours.

Great looking setup. One day when i have endless money i want to re do all the speakers with a new amp and all the sweet stuff you've got there.

For now my Kicker 12 cvr and 750W kicker amp will do.

Tons of people have located their amps in that well, myself included. Yes it's a tight fit but i don't think many people have had issues.
