I've been looking into this for sometime now..and will be doing this over the winter.

Here is all the info I have gathered so far from many different areas/forums/manuals!

BMW Parts needed:
ROCKER-TYPE SHIFT LEVER, LEFT Part#: 61316913803
ROCKER-TYPE SHIFT LEVER, RIGHT Part#: 61316913804

They look like this when installed:

http://www.burgertuning.com/images/BMW_paddle_shift_wheel.jpg

These will both be able to upshift or downshift vs the SMG paddles where one is up the other is down!

Here is the wiring diagram of our clockspring and steering control module:

As you can see 1 and 4 are open (we can use these for our paddle shifters signal up/signal down) and 5 is the ground that will be used!

There is a ton of info here on this mod for the LX's. There is no difference in the steps that need to be taken...just the parts look different is all!

http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=128961

More info here on the Red Site:

http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33364&highlight=paddle

I hope no one minds me linking to other sites as the amount of info needed to do this mod is huge...plus if you mess it up it's 4 grand in parts to make it right again.

Please read carefully as there are many warnings and safety concerns!

I will do a full writeup specific to the WK once I get into it!

Nice little project :)

Now, are you going to install a full cage/harness/race seat? :p

Nah not yet, That would freak the wife out even more!

She likes to look at it but doesn't like to ride in it and she said she would never drive it....I said "That's cool!!!"

The only one who absolutely loves it is my 4yr old little girl who already does powerslides and burnouts on her Powerwheels 4wheeler!

I was looking into this for a bit too...There is a vendor on the LX Forums site called Hammer Automotive. They sell a product called the Shift Hammer which is a button controlled shift button kit, that I believe is wireless, so you wouldnt have to use the factory clockspring wires, Unless you ran a power and ground off it instead of a battery. I could never find a set of paddles that I liked enough to go any further...Good Luck on the project!!!
