Are you going to paint them? Thanks, they'll look even nicer next week.

Does anyone know if I should buy tabs for the door panel in case they should break during install?

You mean the push in pins that hold the door panel to the metal?

If so, I think you should be fine. I have ahd mine off twice and reused all of them.

However, if some get jacked, let me know as I have a box of 50 that cost about 15 cents each compared with the stealer who gets a few bucs for 5.

Ill be happy to send you some of mine.

I can't remember how many times I've had my door panels off and I'm still using the originals. You'll be okay ;)

Ryano....this is a easy 15 minute job! Good Luck...it will look killer!

Thanks, I didn't see anywhere in the pictures above where it says "auto dim" anywhere on the mirror... currently my mirrors are auto dim and it is a feature that I like.. why wouldn't the srt have the auto dim feature? That'd be stupid and would it be as easy as replacing the mirrors to reslove the problem? Maybe I'm being anal but I want my shit to work! :)

Scottina06
06-11-2009, 01:53 AM
mine say auto dim on the drivers mirror.....

Look at the glass in the pics Ryano. It is different than the auto dim glass. My auto dim drivers mirror has a rubber ring around the outside of the glass....those pics dont show that. i dont think those have auto dim

That's what i was afraid of.. I went on to WKjeeps and it lists auto dim as part of the group 1 package.

SHOOT.. scott do you think I could pop off my auto dim mirror and the wiring will already be there? On wkjeeps, there is instructions on how to remove just the mirror but the wiring.. damn.

Would heated mirrors work if mine arent heated already, reason I ask is like with the fogs mine didnt come with them but the wiring was all there for it, just had to change out the headlight switch. I know in my 94 limited the heated mirrors worked with the rear defrost switch, which I have in mine now.

Scottina06
06-12-2009, 10:38 AM
Timmy-yes the heated mirrors will work. I instaleld the painted/heated/auto dim mirrors on my laredo. For the auto dim to work though you need the auto dim interior mirror, interior harness, module and a power wire ran to the outside mirror for the auto dim.

blackpepper
06-12-2009, 02:27 PM
^^^It's that wire running to the outside mirror.. as long as that's there, the swap should be easy.

Scottina06
06-12-2009, 02:34 PM
wasnt on mine dude......BUT...you already have the auto dim mirrors////the problem is the mirror you bought doesnt. My only guess is maybe you could switch over the guts of your current mirror(incluing the harness) to the SRyt mirror you purchased. Someone on JU took apart a set of SRt mirrors to have them painted and put on his limited...but i dont remember who. So maybe they pop apart.

Thats great to hear about switching to heated mirrors. First winter with this WK with no heated mirrors and it sucked, couldnt see out if it on really cold mornings or snowstorms. So is just the drivers heated, and there should already be a wire for the heat or do I have to run that?

06-14-2009, 12:11 PM
I drove around last night with the auto dim off, couldn't really tell the difference so I'm over it. Thanks to all for the help... now to get these things installed :)

My 94 Limited had the auto dim feature on the windshield rearview mirror and I couldnt tell what the difference was with it on or off. I have my mirrors set so I have to actually look up or to the side to see out of them, so headlight glare is not an issue I have. Im usually going faster than anyone anyways to have to use my mirrors. Mirrors are for grandma drivers IMO.

Those look sick. I bought the chrome covers for mine, tried them on and liked that they brightened my jeep up so much. I ended up just putting them on and it looks good. The more i thought about it, with dark khaki for a color i think it would be too much of a blob w/ them color matched. Power heated mirrors FTMFW. I love mine.

both are heated if you buy them that way....and the wiring is there for heated mirrors...no need to run a wire

I was and it's a "rolling hill" road so I got all sorts of headlight glare in my mirrors and there really isn't much of a difference.

Yeah bro it's amazing what the little mods will do to the overall picture. I've gotten over the auto dim thing it's that I have 15% tinted window over my factory tint so it's hard to see anyway, the extra "light" from my side mirrors should be a plus.

How do you like the extra tint? I am considering have the rears darkened even more and doing a light tint on the front.

They turn on with the window defrost for the rear windows and when you select the windshield defrost settings. Next time is chilly and rains, put the wind shield setting on and look at the mirrors lightly fog/steam up a bit before clearing. Or use the rear defrost.

It's dark! But it looks good.. although I'm to much of a p**** to tint the front widows past 50% (even though it made a slight difference) You could probably get away with 35% on the front and blame it on the tint in the back. On my ZJ my rear windows had 5% over stock and that was too dark. 15% is perfect.. but with the WKs high backside and angled window hatch, it makes it hard to judge the distance of objects behind me (no camera/sensors on mine :()

anyone have chrome strips that go completely under the mirror?

All you do is remove the door panel and I recommend taking the mirror off (hella easy) and just rip the chrome off starting on one end and working your way across the door.

You can find tips on wkjeeps.com

FYI the heated mirror part works perfectly. It hasn't been cold enough until last night to test it out.

I still haven't taken any actions to get the mirrors synchronized with the driver memory settings/tilt feature.

Scottina06
08-23-2009, 01:25 PM
we just firgured ouit in another thread Ryan that not all SRT's had the memory seats etc. So...you coulda got a set of mirrors from a non-srt option group 1 without the memory/heated seats......

blackpepper
08-24-2009, 08:42 AM
But I thought we decided that the module wasn't in the mirror but rather programed in the vehicle..

Scottina06
08-24-2009, 02:30 PM
exactly...if the truck they came from didnt have SRT opt grp 1.......they didnt have heated seats/memory seats etc. So the module wouldnt be there and they mirror would have different harness. Did you original mirrors plus match up with the new SRt mirrors you have installed now. And what mean from that is....I know they plug in right...but are the same wires running from the srt mirror to the plug that run from the original miror and plug? Ex. my laredo plug fits my srt mirros...but it is has like 4 wires running to it and the mirrors have like 8.

blackpepper
08-24-2009, 03:51 PM
I don't know.. I already have the door back on and never compared the plugs. I see what you are saying though.. at least they look good and I can sell them off if need be. But I like them and have no complaint other than the auto tilt in reverse but I can live with that.

Next time I have the door panel off I'll be sure to check and update this thread.

blackpepper

Update

I found myself an auto dim px8 mirror. I can finally get my auto dim and auto tilt settings back b/c it will have the correct amount of pins but..... d'oh, I overlooked one detail prior to purchasing: the black plastic "lip" that hangs under the mirror housing won't work with the chrome (see previous posts in this thread). So I need a short chrome strip for that one side but I'd like to keep it looking symmetrical, so I might just cut off that plastic lip and sand it down. We'll see.. either way: :w00t:
