I've got a set of 4.7 cams from my old jeep that I will sell. You can have them reground to your specs for substantially less than you can buy a set of KRC's or equivalent. I had KRC 206 cams in mine and they were quite expensive. I might have the heavy duty valve springs and lash caps to go with it if I can find them.

Not a 4.7L but.......
Must admit that JU was the first forum I joined after getting my ZJ. I cannot deny though, it allowed me to meet quite a few good individuals and obtain some very good info about all models of our beloved Grand Cherokee. And I still browse through there occasionally to refresh the old memory concerning maintenance and a couple of performance mods for the older dinosaur ZJ like mine lol. However, I also tire of the attitude that "A Jeep is supposed to be lifted and have huge knobby tires and be taken off-road and have the schitt beat out of it". Different strokes for different folks, and I love how we can kick back on here and shoot the breeze about things, especially if it goes a little off-topic, and just all in all have a good time. But best of all, we can bs and trade performance ideas and know that we are in our realm!
THANK YOU JEEP GARAGE!!!

Back on topic... We have been working with ATI to bring the first ever 4.7L performance Harmonic balancer/damper to the 4.7L community. You will see a performance damper on EVERY performance race engine built... for good reason. They protect the engine from ripping itself apart.
The crankshaft is the part of the engine that converts the up and down motion of the pistons and connecting rods during the combustion cycle into rotary motion that spins the transmission and the vehicle’s drive wheels. Every time a cylinder fires, the force twists the crankshaft. When the cylinder stops firing the force ceases to act and the crankshaft starts to return to the untwisted position. However, the crankshaft will overshoot and begin to twist in the opposite direction, and then back again. Eventually the crankshaft will experience torsional vibration which can cause it to fail after some time.
In order to keep this problem from occurring, installing a harmonic balancer for your vehicle is necessary.
We where able to strike a deal with ATI and bring the first ever high performance underdrive pulley. for the 4.7L engine...

How is the install of this? Not the removing of the old one so much as the reinstall of this and setting it up properly, vs reinstalling a stock unit.

I do not know how many 4.7 Jeep owners have done this mod yet (I know of some Dodge owners that have) but I recently got the 2008 intake manifold and TBA adapters from Air Ram... can't wait to get this thing on my Jeep and get it tuned. Spent a good portion of the weekend painting it midnight blue to match my exterior - hat tip to Scottina06 for some helpful advice and my dad for his help (he's literally a pro at this sort of stuff) - but it came out amazing, I don't even think these pics do it justice (a little bit too bright outside where I took some of them, the metallic effects are a little washed out):

In that case there are two options... either modify the EGR to fit with the intake or delete it. To delete it you will need an EGR block off plate and SCT tuning.
Im willing to bet that you could modify it by relocating the EGR and then run a solid brass (HOME DEPOT PLUMING) line from the EGR port hope to the new EGR location.

From what I've seen, the best bang-for-the-buck mods are doing a 3" single high-flow exhaust from the Y-pipe back, and porting the TB. On a dyno, I'm guessing the TB wouldn't make an earth-shattering difference, but in terms of throttle response, and overall drivability, the change was very noticeable.
I went to a hi flow catted 2.5" Magnaflow exhaust to a 3" catted Magnaflow exhaust, my 1/4 times (even when correcting both times for that day's specific weather) saw a .35 sec reduction. This is in a full weight 4.7 non-HO WJ 4x4 with 31's and a small lift, STOCK tune, with just a CAI at the time as the only other performance mod.
Due to other issues, I haven't tested the other changes I've made to my setup, but I'm gunning for 14's on stock cams, stock stall, 31's and a lift, and pump gas.
One other thing to note, I am a very big believer in the '08 manifold and the adapters, I am very much looking forward to getting mine when the time is right.

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve or system depending on your setup.
And it's purpose is to help clean up emissions for the most part.
Scottina06
11-10-2009, 04:22 PM
egr stands for exhaust gas recirculation....its a valve that allows exhaust gas back into the manifold and actually has a cooling effect. It also helps to burn off bad stuff so its not emmited into the atmosphere

I was told no.....but I was alos told the 08 manifold fit on an 06
But now we are able to remedy that issue with SCT. At the time there was no reason for us to beleive it would not fit your application... you where the first to learn of the EGR issue.
Since then our SCT tuner had effectively removed his EGR off his 2006 4.7L Ram and Installed a block off plate in place of it & turned the EGR off useing SCT. So you can run the 2008 intake on the 2006 4.7L... You will need our SCT custom tune in order to turn it off... although an added expense... The SCT will make power where no other tuner can.
We have learned over the last few months that the 2008 intake increases air flow so dramatically @ WOT that the factory PCM can not adjust for it. The 2008 intake tends to run real lean at WOT. The 2008 intake is a mod that will require custom tuning in order to richen up the AFR bringing them down to a safer level. So if you go with the 2008 intake, you need to know this mod moves MORE air and will need an SCT tune to make use of that air... it all adds up to more HP in the end.
How fast do you want to go?

From what I can tell on my 04 4.7HO, it does not have any egr valve to control anything with the EGR it is just a port on both heads that constantly feed exhaust into the intake, so without any computer control to interfere with, plugginmg it should not have any negative affect.
