Speaker issue that apparently isn't

OK, so the wife has been complaining that the right dash speaker on her 01WJ w/ the infinity system has been making an annoying sound lately. Now I can't hear high frequencies worth a schlitz or the sound that she has described as "like someone crumbling up cellophane." So I just figured it was a blown speaker and got her the "viper" replacements that can be found on eBay for $40 for Christmas. Got them installed in about 15mins and asked her to come listen and she says it's no different. Same sound is coming from the right front dash speaker.

So I guess I am left with checking the radio, amp and wiring. I have the OEM radio from my 04WJ that I can swap in to see if that fixes it. I have little interest in chasing down a wiring problem and would rather just unplug the speaker. Not too sure I want to buy a used amp hoping that would fix it. Anybody got any other ideas?

My 02 is doing the same thing, however the right front door speaker is doing it as well. I believe it is the amp.

same thing happened to my 02 GC gotta buy the 80$ ones dont waste your money on the cheap ones they sound like they are already blown just buy the nicer ones.

Without being there it's tough to diagnose, but it seems like you've got the right idea... process of elimination.

Mine do the same. At first I thought the speaker cone was blown, but someone suggested that the mountings for the speaker could be loose. It was suggested that it could be fixed with silicone.

I've not got round to looking at it yet, but as soon as I do, I'll let you know
