Guys help me make up my mind. I have never owned a 10'' sub before, I have always had my 2 JL 12w3's but they are in my mazda, and I want something that takes up less room in the Jeep so I am going with one sub.

I plan on building the box myself from the specs on JL's website, but I am just having a hard time trying to make up my mind on going with a 10 or a 12. I have an amp kit on the way, and I have an amp already as well, so my budget is only going to allow for a W3, I had planned on a W6 earlier.

I listen to alot of hard rock, sometimes rap (love bass) and when I am in the mood even country here and there! So, what do you guys think?

I have the 12" JLw3 right now. i love it. very clear and one 12 is definitely loud enough for me. id say go with a 12 as you can always turn the bass down if you want less. if youre not happy with how loud a 10" is you cant do anything about it. JMO

ive got one jl audio 12w3 and it sounds amazing. i had two before in my car and it seriously sounds the same or better with just one in the jeep. It doesnt take up that much room and plus you already have the 12 inch one. You arent going to save much room buy switching to a 10inch. Plus 12's sound better.

I run 2 10w6's with a ported box in my WJ and I LOVE IT!!!

My questions would be what size amp do you have, and is it a sealed box? I am assuming that the box will be sealed for space reasons, in that case I would go with a 10" you'll get a bit cleaner sound. But if you have a high power amp, feel free to go for the 12".

It's really down to what your ear likes. I have friends that prefer a w0 over a w3.

well I am throwing 1000W at a 10" sub right now...I love having a space-saving sub that can BUMP. I went from a 15" to the 10" and I must say I am not dissapointed or sad in any way. Get the most burly 10" you can, that can work in the smallest space possible and throw as much wattage at it as you can...then you will have the best of all worlds :)

Thanks Matt!!!!!!!!!! HAHA

Guys... 12's don't sound better than 10's, 10's don't sound better than 12's... size of the woofer doesn't HAVE ANYTHING TO DO with how 'clean' it sounds.

Chris, what's your budget and how much space are you willing to sacrifice? Also, what amp do you have now (power @ ohm load..?)

Thanks for the opinions guys..

Matt - JL was my choice since I already own 2 12's I figured I couldn't go wrong with getting one for the Jeep now too.. Also, since I plan on building the box myself, the specs for the box are right on the website.

The amp I have waiting for it is this one.. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8515_Kenwood+KAC-9103D.html

I wanted to stay around the $150 - $175 range for the woofer, and again I need to have dimensions for the box for it as well. What do you suggest or have in mind Matt? Brand doesn't really matter to me, I just want some bass from a good woofer that I don't have to worry about replacing in the next couple years!

I'd take the SSA DCON 12 D4 over the W3 all day.

Throw it in a 1 cube sealed enclosure, and you're set!

Cool thanks Matt, you think the amp I have will be good enough for it?

Also Matt.. I notice on the website I have the option of getting it in Single or Dual 4 ohm Voice coils.. what's the difference, and does that have anything to do with my amp?

Oh and one more stupid question, but a 1 cube sealed box would just be 12'' panels on all sides correct? lol

Yes.

Dual 4 ohm voice coils will wire down to 2 ohm. That will be perfect for your amp.

12" internally. You'll have to account for material thickness (3/4"). It doesn't need to be a perfect square either. Make it so it fits well in the cargo area.

Hey Matt, when I am running the amp kit, is there anything important I should know, or is it just plain run the wires down drivers side of car to the amp, lol..

Well, don't put the fuse in the in-line fuse holder until everything is connected, or else, ZAP!

I'd start by clearing a path all the way from the battery to the amp location, as opposed to doing it as you go. The rear quarter panel requires a lot to remove it (I never did), so you can just snake it through there. Getting past the B-pillar can be a bitch too, but just go slow with the panels/clips, you don't want to break anything.

Ground is simple enough to do at the end.

(If you're doing RCA's) - RCA's and remote power wire should be run down the passenger side. You'll need to zip tie them around the passenger-side foot well (maybe).

Otherwise, just take your time... no need to rush and screw something up to save a couple of minutes.
