Headlights

What do you guys recommend for cleaning the headlights? Last time I had someone do the work for me, I have no clue what they used but it cut down on the filmy layer over the casing and made it clearer... if that makes any sense. I've been cleaning this thing all day and I'm not happy with the lights...... any recommendations other than regular glass cleaner?

I have used 3M headlight restoration kit and it worked amazing. It comes with all the different grit sandpapers, cleaning solution, and a sealent type solution. It is a little pricey around 20 or 25 bucks but is well woth it.

i got the mothers kit cuz i couldnt find the meguires kit. gives you a brush thing you put on the end of your drill nd it does the work for you.

I spent an hour per headlight with the 3m restoration kit and an air drill. They went from crap to almost new. Problem is the previous owner had this done twice already. So the lenses are getting thin and you can see hairline spider cracks. 5 months later its coming back, Time for new headlights now. My advice is take your time and use the sandpaper thoroughly, You rush through and they will look less "yellow" amd more scratchy. Good luck :)

For simply "cleaning", Plexus is great. If you need to remove haze you'll have to sand and/or polish them.

If you want something relatively cheap and yet effective, try Kit "Scratch Out"...iirc, walmart sels it for <$4 and it works well.

I've also used 3M plastic polish with good results, but it costs a lot more. However, I don't think I've ever seen a 3M product that wasn't good stuff.

I've also used white (ultra fine) scotchbrite or 4/0 steel wool and it helps a lot, without scratching (don't go using course steel wool or green kitchen scothbrite pads, lol)

btw - a good thing to use on glass is Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (with water)
