This is what I do Brad.
1.) Park Jeep. :D lol
2.) Let it sit for 30 minutes
3.) Cover up the CAI Filter and PCM
4.) Hose it down
5.) Spray Simple Green all over
6.) Rinse the Simple Green Off
7.) Dry off the Excess Water
8.) Spray Armor All (Spray Bottle, not the Tire Shine) all over the place.
9.) Drive it around the block a few times.
10.) You have a clean engine.
Oh and only clean the engine when you are cleaning the body also because some Armor All will get on the body, so you need to wash that off.

School me on K&N intake kits guys.
There is the 77 series Polished aluminum tube that apparently is crap cause it can reheat the air being a metal tube. BUT ITS BLINGIN.
The 57 series (i think) thats the typical every body has it intake.
What is this 63 series i have heard about? I can only seem to find it on auto anything .com adn only for the 6.1. What is better or different? Do they make it for the 4.7?
This is going to be my next major (well not major to do but $$ wise)mod so id like to choose the best one.
I really want the 77 series one though to brighten up the engine bay, as if i paint a plastic one body color its barely noticeable with dark khaki.

Why not K&N!?? ^^
2 reasons, the K&N was almost $100 more (i bought it from my old work, an upholstery and accessories shop, see upcoming thread tomorrow) and i have the Cone off my old XJs K&N that i can always use if i dont like the AFE cone. The rest of it does not really matter, basically all the same. Tomorrow if weather is good enough for an hour or two i am going to spray paint the box for the CAI.
Here is the ? The intake i have is just like Scotts. Do i paint it to match the body which prolly wont get noticed as my jeep is dark Khacki or do i paint it bright silver? i have both colors on hand.
BTW, i painted the strut bar body color and you cant tell its not black b/c its dark under the hood. you have to look close to notice it.

Well, here it is. I did it yesterday just had internet issues last night.
I only painted the lid because i have had issues painting plastic parts even when using the expensive plastic primer from SEM. i also painted teh strut bar a few weeks back, you can see where i got impatient before it was dry and the stuff on the hood stuck to it. self owned.

Well, spare tire has been removed, trailer bezel has been trimmed and trailer wiring relocated. (see pic)
EDIT: lol just found this, though it would not work with my trailer hitch. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-SRT8-Stock-Exhaust-Three-Pieces_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el11 16QQhashZitem4cea28d057QQitemZ330346057815QQptZMot orsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
I am going to get the same muffler i have now but with dual exit. then just run 2 pipes from the muffler, over the axle through the spare tire area and out the tips by the hitch.
I am sure the shop will help me out on alot of the decisions but i still dont know what a good diameter pipe will be so i dont loose volume or tone but still keep it good flowing. 2.25? 2.5? do i want 3? then i want to do 3.5" tips because i did a fake mockup with a 4" dia can and it look too big.
If i keep my current muffler and add a Y pipe it will cost $200, if i get a whole new muffler and keep my current exhaust to sell(thats what i am trying to do now) it will be closer to $400 installed cause its all custom bent piping.
4" tips will fit on each side, i think i want 3.5" tips, but i am going to rig a hanger that i can easily loosen with a wrench (i dont tow too often but i use my bike rack in summer) and drop one the tips down to put a hitch pin in.

If thats why you suggest the SRT exhaust i am not worried about that. This shop as 2 enormous bending machines and everything starts out as a straight piece of pipe, And JB the guy that will be doing my exhaust is amazing at what he does, i dont think that will be a problem, especially since there are 2 factory hangers already right there.
This is the exhaust his apprentice did on my XJ.

On your WK I will just alert you about the rear sway bar. It moves ALOT more than ny of us think. We needed to mod my exhaust twice to get clearence. It wasn't noticable until out in the real world that it wasnt clearing the sway bar. We could replicate it on the hoist, so just had to continue moving the pipes until we had an extraordinary amount of clearence.
Just a heads-up for you bro :)

It can be done at home with a pressure sprayer and some ATF and another oil i think, But it makes it a real pain in the ass to work on the truck ever. If you look at the pic its only the welds that rust, and edges of the seams. There is nothing under it that would need repair or attention any time soon, i check every time i have it on a lift.
Marlin
07-30-2009, 07:48 PM
Yeah I understand that. Maybe it's a cultural difference?
Here in Oz it's very common to rustproof cars, mainly 4wd's. We tend to use fully drying preventers. some dry clear, some dry black, but they are designed to shield your truck from the elements. We spray inside rails and everywhere it's difficult to get a hose into after being on the beach. Because it dries hard, it's not messy to work on the car.
The days of spraying fish oil around it are thankfully long gone! :)

question for yall exhaust'ers-
im going to do something with my exhaust in a short while and wondering which set up will get me the sound im particularly love.... the infinity (prob gonna get flamed for it but yup, i love that sound soo subtle and love the sound as it pulls away) dont get me wrong- i love borla esk' sounds too, im just leaning away from loud ass* exhaust on this jeep of mine. my XJ had one, my ZJ had one for a short while. this one, at least not right now.

I totally understand what your asking but IMHO, it will never happen. That is a totally different engine there. Dodge/jeep engines are known for having a deep burly get out of my way sound.
What your asking is like finding a kid with a honda that wants to make it sounds like a Subaru WRX STI. It will never happen.
Also, i would post this in the SRT8 section where more of your SRT brothers can give you better info. Good Luck!

I have the Airaid for the 3.7L but I am not happy with the fit. Does not line up too well on the throttle body. The silicone reducer is also very sloppy over the throttle body. This may be diff for the 05-07. I had the airaid on my 2000 4.7L Dodge Durango and the fit and finish was top notch. In fact, the 5.7L airaids look great. I will post up some pics shortly.

Quick question for everyone running the 4" bwoody cai. I was driving last night through a downpour and it got me thinking about the location of the filter on the bwoody.... I am running with the drycharger, but is it really enough protection against heavy rain, and furthermore will I be safe through the winter? I noticed when I felt the filter last night it does get a mist of water on it :/ Up here in the northeast the weather gets pretty bad this time of year and I don't wanna have any trouble with the intake. I opened the hood today to see what it looked like and it is filthy all around the lower portion of the tube and fender area from running dirt roads lately.... Should I put the stock setup back on or do you think I'll be alright with the bwoody?

You're definitely running the risk of hydrolocking. Lots of the guys from stormy areas opt against the bwoody for that reason. I'm not personally experienced with it, just what I've read on here before.

Follow your gut feeling. If it doesn't feel right, then it ain't right. Swap it out during the wet season... not worth taking the risk. Besides, it shouldn't take that long right? But that's just me. Here in Detroit, I swap out my front bumper and wheels back to OEM. The salt and snow are crazy. I'm afraid the slush/ice build-up from the car in front of me will fall off and kill my bumper. Well good luck to you buddy!

I'm thinking you hit the nail on the head with that response LOL! I'm gonna return the intake back to stock for the winter months... definitely don't need to take the chance!
Thanks!! :)

I live in Saskatchewan, I was going to go with a bwoody, but Im not going to risk it. I currently have an Airaid, however, I think Im going to go with an aFe Stage 2 intake

Are the polished metal CAI's (k&n and brute force) really that bad? I get that they will absorb some heat, but is the AFE for example that much better?

all I know is that my BWoody filter def gets some "kick-up" from the road, but in SoCal we don't get the weather so I am not worried at all about hydrolocking. and it does get a little dirty, but I removed that "flap" to the inside of the passenger headlight, so that prolly doesnt help with the debris...but my DIY grille helps with large objects
My 4" bwoody (aluminum and powder-coated) IAT reads 2-3 degrees above ambient temperature, so that is really the main benefit! The sound is great too, but the extension of the IAT is really were the benefit is
I had an AIRAID and IMO that would be perfect for bad weather...I did not have my Trinity @ the time so I have no idea what the IAT reading was vs ambient temp

I see how the Bwoody's get cooler air, but drainage isnt so good here. My mj's had water up to the headlights on the way to work after a hard rain:eek: I like the bling of the polished tubes, was just wondering if there's really much difference in perf ?

Hey guys. I was looking into intakes for the 3.7 and know that airaid removes that air box that that the K&N leaves on. The problem is that it says it's for '05-'07 and I coldn't find anything for '08. Will this still work on a '08?

No it will not. I'm pretty sure the intake manifold is different, and the throttle body definitely is.

Really. I actually bothered to put 2008 in the search and it changed the results from '05 to '08 instead of '07. Lol what's goin on?

I know a while ago there were some thoughts going around that a 4.7 K&N might fit a 3.7. Did anyone ever get around to trying this? I'm just looking for something that will get rid of the upper air reso.

i just got my airaid last week. i ordered the 05-07. like i was telling Ryan in a mail, the reducer that comes with airaid that connects from the plenum to the TB is bigger on the end that attaches to the TB. there is however that plastic that goes on the OEM resonator in the back and attaches to the TB. I squeezed the backside of the reducer into that plast from the resonator and then fitted that onto the TB. it takes a bit of tweaking and u need to reuse some of the old straps but it worked for me. you cant even tell i did that and i think it is worth being like that over having the resonator. i dont like any restriction esp. with a vehicle this slow.

i can do that with the diablo?
i am new to JG and to jeeps in general. i dont know the difference in most models and the products that are offered for them. i am sure whatever intake you get, you can tweak it to fit.

You quoted a post that was completely unrelated to your question.
Your warranty should not be voided with or without a tune. Yes you can remove it. Google Magnusson Moss act.

The Midas you talked to probably thought you were talking about a stock replacement size muffler.
You can fit essentially whatever you want down there...3" in/out

The throttle bodies are identical. As long as you get a TB off a LX/Jeep as the TBs from Rams and Durangos do not work on the car/jeep manifolds. Found that out the hard way.
