Ok so i thought about this in another thread but instead of a hijack i figured id start my own thread.

For as long as i can remember, all people have told me on an AWD you CANNOT mix tread or tire size in any shape or form.

My tires are going to stay at 245/65/17. But my spare is a 235/65/17. I checked it out and its slightly smaller diameter and its narrower.

The spare is a GY wrangler HP

My tires are GY Fortera HL

I plan to get new tires by winter and i will get 5 and rotate the spare in and out.

Even though i do have AAA with free 100 miles if i get a flat and have to drive my jeep with the spare on there, will i screw up my jeep?

I cannot seem to find a good used 245/65/17 fortera hl any where cept the over priced jack asses on Ebay.

any help is appreciated.

235/65 17 means

235 MM wide
a sidewall of 65% of 235 or 152.75 or 6.0138 inches

245/65 17 means
245MM wide
sidewall of 65% of 245 or 159.25 or 6.2697 inches

235 height =
17
6.0138
6.0138
________
29.0276

245 height =
17
6.2697
6.2697
___________
29.5394
-29.0276
_________
.5118 of an inch. or 1/2 an inch difference.

also the difference is only 2 %. IIRC you are ok up to 3%.
As a spare i think you are fine.

OK cool, Ive been real nervous that if i were to get a flat id be stranded waiting for AAA for 3 hours.

At least until i get my new tires i know i will be ok to get home.
