I've contacted Factoryreproductions to try to get info on how to care for the wheels. I have the chrome Jeep SRT8 reps with some light break dust stains and light pitting inside the well of the wheel. I can't access my AOL at this time but I'll post the emails I've sent and received from FR....

Please list what products you use and how you like them....

I'm planning on taking the wheels off in the near future and cleaning and polishing them. please any input you may have is greatly appreciated...

The emails...

I just purchased a set of 20" Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 replica wheels from a friend that purchased them from your site. I was wondering if someone can provide me with some information about the wheel. I was wondering what metal is the wheel made of? Is it chrome all the way through or coated? If you can provide me with the information or direct me as to where I can find the information, it’ll be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nathan

Thanks for the prompt reply. What do you suggest I use to clean/polish the wheels with? Should u use aluminum, metal polish, or something other?

Nathan

Treat the wheel the same way you would the paint on the car. Keep them clean. Brake dust will eat into the chrome if it is left on the wheel for extended periods. I you want to wax them use a Carnuba wax. Do not use a cleaner wax some will damage the finish.

I have a set of the 20" chrome jeep SRT8 rims. I was wondering if
there is some pitting in the barrel of the rim, what can I use to
clean them? All purpose cleaner?

Thank you in advance,
Nathan

Do not use anything with containing an abrasive. Most cleaner waxes for
paint finishes are ok.

on my chrome ones for a nice shine I use ultimate quick detailer from mcquires and it works wonders ... makes it shine like none other and also gives it a good shine for a while ...

sometimes i use the mothers wax by hand to give it a good clean protection but other than that I have tried various products with no luck ...

get ultimate quick detailer it's cheap and you can use it all over the car for quick touch ups and make it shine ...

Thanks Rob & Omar. I used mothers quick detailer that I had left over from clay bar kit and that made them shine nice!!! But I really want to clean them up. the FR rep said the wheels are made of aluminum alloy and plated with copper, nickel and chrome. I just don't want to use the wrong cleaning product and ruin the finish.

fabric softener and water goes a long way !!! gotta get dirty with it though and get a good brush so you can scrub that sh1t ... other than that nothing else comes to mind ...

you need a good paint sealant like Meguiers #21. Ask Moteller the condition inside and out of my SRT wheels that i sold him. They were spotless and all I ever used was Meguiers #21 sealant and P21s concours carnuba wax

Ok Scott, Thanks!!! What should I use to clean them??? If it's beyond repair I'm going to just have them powdercoated black over the winter...

whatever car wash soap you use and a good stiff brush(only on the inside) The outside just use your cart wash soap. If youve got some staining you could try the p21s whhel gel that detailedimage.com carries

pretty funny how they say do not use cleaner waxes as some will harm the finish...then they recommend using a cleaner wax HAHA...I think you should listen to Scott if he had that good of results

they should clean up fine nate. Yea scotts wheels I just washed them and all the dirt came off easy in the barrel of the wheel. The other wheels I got didnt have sealant applied on the barrel to my knowledge and that took some scrubbing to get off but it came off and looked the same as scotts. Each wheel probably took me 45 mins to clean without the sealant, with sealant 10-15 mins.

If its chrome on the barrel of the rim if you use anything with abrasive it will scratch the chrome. I would use something like p21s wheel gel cleaner, p21s total auto wash or that one stuff that mario used to clean his wheels, pretty sure its called the grime reaper. Just let that stuff soak on the deep stains and it should come off.

apc will strip your sealant off

Seriously. Irf like do you have to dilute it to 99 percent water and 1 percent APC so it is not abrasive? LOL

EDIT: If the barrels arent chrome he can use it. If so, he needs to use car soap or P21s (that is sooooo good). Sucks that I cant get it in stores and must order online.
